Ethylenic Reactant Or Polymer Derived From Polycarboxylic Acid Or Anhydride And Polyol Is Derived From A Carbohydrate Or Derivative Patents (Class 525/32.2)
Abstract: This invention provides a coating composition for use on a food-contact surface of a container (e.g., a food or beverage can) that includes a polymer having one or more segments of Formula I: —O—Ar—Rn—C(O)—O—R1—O—C(O)—Rn—Ar—O— wherein each Ar is independently a divalent aryl group (i.e., an arylene group) or heteroarylene group; R1 is a divalent organic group; each R is independently a divalent organic group; and n is 0 or 1. Containers comprising the polymer and methods of making such containers are also provided.

Abstract: Coating composition comprising an alkyd having at least 20% by weight of vinylic building blocks and having an oil length below 65%. The weight ratio non-vinylic:vinylic groups is between 1:1 and 4:1, preferably between 1.5:1 and 3:1. The vinylic groups include styrene and (meth)acrylate groups. The ratio of styrene:(meth)acrylate groups is between 0.5:1 and 4:1, preferably between 1.5:1 and 3:1. The vinylic groups show low polarity. The Mw is below 10,000. The oil length is above 45%. The coating composition can be water borne or solvent borne. The alkyd according to the invention allows formulation of solvent borne coatings a volatile organic content below 300 g/l.

Abstract: A process for preparing polyvalent, physiologically degradable carbohydrate-containing polymers by enzymatic glycosylation reactions is described. The carbohydrate-containing polymers thus prepared may be used for preparing carbohydrate building blocks. The polyvalent carbohydrate-containing polymers of the invention cause no intolerance reactions in vivo, either in their intact form or in the form of degradation products. The carbohydrate side chain of the carbohydrate-containing polymer is assembled by enzymatic glycosylation reactions in homogeneous aqueous buffer systems directly on a biodegradable polymer. The yields of the glycosylation reaction are significantly improved over known processes, and are often quantitative. This also provides a significant increase in the loading densities. A process for preparing free oligosaccharides by means of the carbohydrate-containing polymers of the invention is also described.

Abstract: A thermoplastic resin composition comprising 5 to 50 parts by weight of a liquid crystal polyester resin containing at least one selected from the following structural units (1) to (4) and having a flow initiation temperature of 260° C. or less, and 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin having a deflection temperature under load of less than 190°C.
Abstract: Radiation-curable powder compositions, usable as paint or varnish, which comprise a mixture of at least one semi-crystalline polyester containing end methacryloyl groups and of at least one acrylic copolymer containing ethylenically unsaturated groups, these polyesters comprising the reaction products of a glycidyl methacrylate and of a semi-crystalline polyester containing end carboxyl groups.

Abstract: Methods for irradiation induced graft polymerization of a monomers, such as styrenes, onto fluoropolymers are provided. The methods, which involve either the use of acids, preferably mineral acids, or creating a rough surface on the fluoropolymer, provide higher levels of grafting of the copolymer than grafting in the absence of the acid or of the rough surface on the fluoropolymer. Also provided are grafted copolymers produced by the methods. Methods for increasing the performance of solid phase assays, such as scintillation proximity assays, are also provided.
