Wrapping Machines Patents (Class 53/203)
  • Patent number: 5653087
Abstract: A manufacturing machine designed to use reels of web material, in particular a packaging machine for packaging cigarettes, or the like, in which the processing units are located at least in part on one side of the machine, termed the front side. On the opposite side from the front side, i.e. from that provided at least in part with the processing units which use the web material, is a device for supplying new web reels to and removing the empty cores of the reels from a device for transferring the reels and cores. The transfer means are supported in such a way that they can be moved automatically from the rear side to the front side and vice versa, through at least one corresponding passage approximately perpendicular to the sides of the manufacturing machine.

  • Patent number: 4825622
Abstract: Apparatus for selecting and feeding web material (F1, F2, F3) from a plurality of supply bobbins (B1, B2, B3) of web material having different characteristics, comprising a selecting and dispensing device arranged on a slide (7) horizontally movable to and fro with respect to a feeder conveyor (T) which finally feeds the film to the packaging station (P) of the packaging machine. On the slide is mounted an indexing arrangement (13, 18) adapted to selectively bring into operative alignment with the feeding conveyor (T) one draw-and-guide unit (A1, A2, A3) which draws the selected film and delivers it to the feeding conveyor (T). The operative engagement between the draw-and-guide units (A1, A2, A3) is obtained by opening the feeding conveyor (T) which consist of a superposed belts conveyor (101, 201) and pinch rollers (R1, R2) and inserting therebetween the forward portion (118, 218, 318) of the draw-and-guide unit.

  • Patent number: 4595625
Abstract: Disclosed is a sealable transparent multilayer film, comprising: a base layer comprised of a propylene polymer and at least one sealable layer comprised of a combination of:(a) from about 67.5 to 89.6% by weight, relative to the weight of the sealable layer, of an olefin resin composition comprised of a co- or terpolymer of ethylene, propylene, butylene or another alpha-olefin having 5 to 10 carbon atoms or of a mixture of said polymers,(b) from about 5 to 15% by weight, relative to the weight of the sealable layer, of a low molecular weight resin which is compatible with the olefin resin composition,(c) from about 5 to 15% by weight, relative to the weight of the sealable layer, of a propylene homopolymer,(d) from about 0.3 to 1.5% by weight, relative to the weight of the sealable layer, of a polydiorganosiloxane, and(e) from about 0.1 to 1.0% by weight, relative to the weight of the sealable layer, of a silicate having the shape of platelets.

  • Patent number: 4507904
Abstract: In a stretch film wrapping machine improved film feeding apparatus facilitates the threading of stretch film into film feeding jaws. Sealing/conveying apparatus is closely located above the film feeding jaws and is mounted to be pivotally moved in line with the machine away from the film feeding jaws. A package sealing holddown is positioned over the sealing/conveying apparatus to ensure firm contact between wrapped packages and the sealing/conveying apparatus. The sealing holddown is pivotally mounted to similarly move away from the film feeding jaws in line with the film wrapping machine. Inexpensive latching means are incorporated into the sealing holddown and the package sealing conveyor to maintain them in an elevated position to provide free access to the film feeding jaws. The package holddown comprises a roller with a central section of a first diameter and two outer sections of a second larger diameter which are connected to the central section by frustum sections.

  • Patent number: 4277731
Abstract: A wrapping machine has a plurality of movable elements which move in predetermined ways to perform a wrapping operation. Control of the movements of at least some of the elements is performed using a pulse generator for synchronization and a control circuit which receives the pulses from the pulse generator. The control circuit comprises a computer having a suitable working program and peripherals connected to the computer and operating the associated element. Each peripheral comprises a processor controlled by the computer and a step-by-step motor which is controlled by the processor and which is operatively connected to the associated element to move the element.

  • Patent number: 4180962
Abstract: Apparatus for wrapping an article with stretch film. The article is first advanced against a vertical web of film to partially enfold the film longitudinally about the article and to advance the article to a longitudinal folding station where a tail of the film is folded up against the bottom of the article and at which film wings laterally project from the article. The partially wrapped article is then advanced to a stretch and lateral fold station at which the film wings are clamped by clamping jaws which are moved laterally away from the article whereby to stretch the film. The article is then lifted and the clamping jaws are advanced toward each other and beneath the bottom of the article whereby to fold the wings at least partially against the article while maintaining stretching tension on the film. Thereafter, the article is advanced through a plow to complete the wrapping of the wings against the article.

  • Patent number: 4137788
Abstract: An apparatus for use with a strapping machine for displacing and tensioning a strapping band about an article or the like, wherein band rolls, about which there is wrapped the strapping band, are operatively coupled with a reversible drive motor, and between the drive motor and at least one of the band rolls there is provided a speed reduction stage which is switched-on, due to the response of an overload coupling, during the rotational sense corresponding to tensioning of the strapping band. According to the invention, three successive band rolls are provided which are coupled with one another for carrying out the same peripheral rotation by means of a form-locking transmission or drive.

  • Patent number: 4051652
Abstract: Method for packaging in a carton full size yarn packages by a yarn producing machine provided with a plurality of yarn package producing units. A predetermined number of full size yarn packages are firstly doffed from the corresponding spindles of the yarn producing machine at once by means of the bobbins chucks which are displaceable as one group, and each doffed yarn package is wrapped separately by a film bag while holding by the corresponding bobbin chuck. Next the yarn packages wrapped with the corresponding film bags are deposited at once into a space of a carton by displacing the bobbin chucks, and after releasing the gripping of the yarn packages by the respective bobbin chucks, these bobbin chucks are displaced to their standby positions.

  • Patent number: 4050220
Abstract: The invention comprises a novel apparatus and process for making unitary packages from a continuous wrapping process. In the apparatus a series of loads, each containing a plurality of cartons are fed into a wrapper apparatus and covered by a spiral stretched film to form a unitary continuous packaged bundle. The bundle proceeds on to a cutting area where the loads are severed into individual packages which are carried off to a stacking or processing station. The apparatus utilizes wrapping guide rails which receive the loads so that the wrapping ring mechanism continuously wraps each load and its supporting guide rails with the wrapping being pulled off the guide rails to contact against each load forming a spiral wrapped bundle encapsulating the loads. The spiral bundle is carried to a cutting station which severs each individual load from the spiral bundle.
