Patent number: 6588177Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a reclosable profile element, or zipper, to a packaging film. The packaging film is formed into a tubular form about a forming tube. The zipper is received in a guide block formed along the interior of the forming tube. The extended flanges of each member of the zipper are urged flat against the outer circumference of the fill tube. The packaging film is applied over the flanges of the zipper and a header is created by a rod extending along the length of an initial portion of the fill tube. A heated seal bar secures the film to the flanges of the zipper. After the zipper has been attached to the film, the packaging material is urged out of the interior of the fill tube by a changing configuration of the guide block.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2002Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: Reynolds Consumer Products, Inc.Inventor: Greg W. Patent number: 6568157Abstract: During automatic supply and packing of a liquid composition containing granular constituents, a master liquid, not containing the granular constituents, of the liquid composition is continuously supplied to a packing bag formed from a packing film by making bottom and top seals, in this order, on the packing bag with the packing film being stroked and squeezed to remove a part of the master liquid from bag portions where the bottom and top seals are to be formed, and a second liquid, containing the granular constituents, of the liquid composition is intermittently supplied into the packing bag between the bottom and top seals. Thereby, a liquid composition containing granular constituents can be packed with the nearly same efficiency as that in continuous supply and packing of a liquid.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2000Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: Taisei Lamick Co., Ltd.Inventor: Katsunori Futase

Publication number: 20030049479Abstract: The multi-layer film structure having an inner sealing layer which comprises metallocene catalyzed resin, a core which includes polypropylene copolymer and an outer layer and wherein the multi-layer film structure has a thickness within a range between about 50 and 70 microns. By utilizing this thin film with specific properties the sealers may be operated at lower temperatures thereby resulting in an energy saving and they produce seals having improved seal strength of 30% to 50% as compared with known prior mono-layer polyethylene film. The seal initiation temperature is reduced by 10° C. to 15° C. and the film exhibits an improved machine direction tensile strength of 25% to 40% and an improvement of 30% to 50% in puncture resistance as compared with a 76 microns mono-layer polyethylene film. This results in a reduction in the sealing cycle time and an increase in the throughput of the machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2002Publication date: March 13, 2003Applicant: Glopak Inc.Inventors: Yves Quintin, Roland Basque, Andre Pitre

Lengths of the reclosable zipper are attached to a length of thermoplastic film via the longer zipper flange, either transverse or parallel to a running direction of the film, to form a supply of package making material. The supply of package making material is fed into an FFS machine or the like where it is made into reclosable packages.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Donald L. Patent number: 6308498Abstract: A zipper strip for a reclosable package having a transverse zipper is provided. The zipper strip comprises a male interlocking profile and a female interlocking profile. Each profile includes an interlocking member and an integral web which defines a leading flange. The leading flanges are sealed to thermoplastic film material which is used to make the reclosable packages and to each other. A perforation extends along the length of the zipper strip so that the profiles can be readily separated.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Art Malin, Lawrence Share, Donald L. Publication number: 20010023571Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing packaging bags having lateral bellows, the method being characterized by the fact that it comprises the steps consisting in: forming respective cutouts (150, 160) in each of the two lateral, bellows-forming zones of a packaging bag sheet (100) so that the bag has only two thicknesses superposed at the mouth of said bellows, at least over a portion of its width; and heat-sealing (184, 186) the adjacent edges of the sheet to the peripheries of the cutouts (150, 160) to close the bag. The invention also provides apparatus for implementing the method and bags obtained thereby.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2001Publication date: September 27, 2001Applicant: FLEXICO - FRANCEInventor: Georges Bois Henri

Patent number: 6294046Abstract: To provide a heat-sealing apparatus capable of: achieving a complete sealing property by causing a liquid or dirt having entered small irregularities in a tube inner face to flow out of a sealed zone together with a molten resin; and a heat seal with no crack caused by the molten resin having flowed into container and with an excellent compression strength. A heat-sealing apparatus for forming a packaging material 1 made of a laminate including a synthetic resin layer into a tubular-shape of a container, and transversely heat-sealing a tubular packaging material container filled with fluid by using a sealing jaw 3 having a high-frequency coil 2 with a ridge 11 on its flat pressing face and a jaw 5 opposing to it, wherein a first groove 16 is disposed on at least one pressing face of the high-frequency coil 2, capable of forming a synthetic resin bulge adjacent to the outer side of a zone to be sealed on a container's interior side.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1999Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Shikoku Kakoki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Satoshi Kume, Hiroshi Katayama, Michio Ueda

Publication number: 20010005973Abstract: A method of making reclosable packaging utilizes a longitudinally extending web of film material having cutouts therein. A length of zipper strip substantially half the width of the web and having an attached slider is applied transversely across the web of film material with the slider positioned in the cut out. The web is folded longitudinally with the zipper attached to the web and the slider positioned in the cut out. The edges of the web are brought together longitudinally and seamed to form a tube. The opposite ends of the tube are sealed to form the package. The resultant bag has the slider seated in the cut-out where it is readily visible to a consumer.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 27, 2001Publication date: July 5, 2001Inventors: John H.
