Abstract: The present disclosure provides reactive quencher dyes that can be used in the detection and/or quantification of desirable target molecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids and various cellular organelles. These dyes are essentially non-fluorescent but are efficient quenchers of various fluorescent dyes. Also, provided are methods of using the dyes, bio-probes incorporating dyes and methods of using the bio-probes. The quencher dyes described herein are modified to provide beneficial properties.
Abstract: The present invention provides compounds and methods for modulation of the quorum sensing of bacteria. In an embodiment, the compounds of the present invention are able to act as replacements for naturally occurring bacterial quorum sensing ligands in a ligand-protein binding system; that is, they imitate the effect of natural ligands and produce an agonistic effect. In another embodiment, the compounds of the present invention are able to act in a manner which disturbs or inhibits the naturally occurring ligand-protein binding system in quorum sensing bacteria; that is, they produce an antagonistic effect. The compounds of the present invention comprise N-acylated-homoserine lactones (AHLs) comprised of a wide range of acyl groups.

Abstract: A molecular indicator for detecting primary diamines includes an indicator structure coupled to (a) a bis-crown ether structure or (b) a structure having a bis-crown ether-like functionality. A package for detecting an analyte emitted by a packaged object includes a packaging material for the object. The package further includes a molecular indicator included with the packaging material for detecting the analyte. The molecular indicator includes an indicator structure coupled to a trapping structure for trapping the analyte. The molecular indicator is highly specific for the analyte, and the trapping of the analyte by the molecular indicator avoids reactive chemistry by-products. The molecular indicator can be synthesized by several different process schemes.

Abstract: Conducting polymeric side chain liquid crystals are prepared by incoporating liquid crystalline compounds in a main chain selected from the group consisting of acetylene derivatives and thiophene derivatives.
