Abstract: The present invention describes a novel gas/solid separation system that can be applied to any type of FCC unit regenerators. It consists of a device for separating solid particles contained in a gas stream coming from the regeneration zone of a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit bounded by an inner envelope (3) of cylindrical shape centred about the vertical axis of the regeneration zone, and an outer envelope (1) that has one approximately horizontal wall (15), followed by one curvilinear wall (16), and one approximately vertical wall (17), the set of said walls (15, 16, 17) covering the inner envelope (3) and forming a set of separation chambers (2) radially distributed around the inner envelope (3) in which the gas/solid suspension to be separated circulates. This novel separation system makes it possible to obtain, at the same time, very good separation efficiency while minimizing the pressure drop and only requiring a single downstream cyclone stage.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for separating a gas-liquid mixture, wherein the liquid part is in the form of small particles, in particular during ventilation of a piston housing of an internal combustion engine, by separating and coagulating the liquid particles on a separation surface. The aim of the invention is to produce a device which has a compact structure, is easy to construct and has the highest possible degree of separation. As a result, when a cyclone is used as an individual separation device, the inner wall surface thereof (4), along which a rotational flow is produced for separating the liquid, must be provided with a plurality of narrow flow chicanes that are in the form of a thin, fine-pored knitted or non-woven fibre (5). A particularly good degree of separation is achieved in a separation device in which a prefractionator and a postfractionator (6, 7) are combined together, one of said separators being a cyclone and the other an impactor.

  • Patent number: 7150773
Abstract: A liquid device for extracting liquids entrained in gasses flowing through a pipeline consists of a housing having a separation and collection chamber for the extracted liquids and a flow through passage for the gasses being dried. As the gasses flow into an extractor insert, they first flow through a diffuser which aligns the gas flow and reduces the pressure in the flow. As the gasses hit the concave end of the extractor insert they are forced into a spiraling flow within the insert. The combination of reduced pressure and the spin cause any entrained liquids to be spun out of the gas flow. Both the gas and the liquids them pass through apertures in the lower surface of the extractor insert, with the liquids dropping into the collection chamber for later evacuation, while the gasses rise to an outlet port which exits to the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 7070639
Abstract: A cyclonic vacuum cleaner with simple structure, low airflow leakage, excellent maintainability, and less possibility of littering a floor in the case of dumping dusts or care of the cleaner. A cyclonic portion 14 of an approximately cylindrical shape, having a bottom, an introducing portion 15 for introducing dust-laden airflow to the cyclonic portion 14, and a reinforcing rib 35 provided on a lowermost end of the dust-collecting portion 11 for allowing it to stand on end, are formed into a one-piece structure. Thus, the structure from the introducing portion 15 to the cyclonic portion 14 can be simplified and the possibility of airflow leakage can be reduced. Also, maintenance of the cyclonic portion 14 and the introducing portion 15 can be easily performed through the detachment of the dust-collecting portion 11 together with the introducing portion 15.

  • Patent number: 7059311
Abstract: An air/oil separating device for removing oil that has become entrained in blow-by gases passing through a crankcase of an internal combustion engine. The air/oil separating device includes a spiral element forming a spiral passageway and a perforated tube. As the air/oil stream passes through the spiral passageway and contacts its walls, a certain amount of the entrained oil is removed or scavenged such that it collects at the bottom of the spiral passageway. The treated air stream, now having less entrained oil, passes into the perforated tube and exits at an upper axial end, while the collected oil drains back into the crankcase via a lower axial end of the perforated tube. The air/oil separating device can be incorporated within a cap assembly also having an oil-fill cap and/or a PCV valve.

  • Patent number: 7048783
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner air/liquid separator is provided according to the invention. The separator includes an offset air/liquid airflow inlet for receiving an air/liquid airflow, with the offset air/liquid airflow inlet possessing a width and a height. The separator further includes a substantially cylindrical separator chamber communicating with the offset air/liquid airflow inlet, wherein the offset air/liquid airflow inlet is radially offset from the separator chamber. The separator further includes a lead-in track extending from the offset air/liquid airflow inlet and at least partially around the circumference of the separator chamber. The lead-in track tapers from substantially the width of the offset air/liquid airflow inlet into the separator chamber. The air/liquid airflow is entrained into a downward spiraling path in the separator chamber by the lead-in track.

  • Patent number: 7044999
Abstract: An oil separator usable with a welder and air compressor combination unit. The oil separator includes a cylindrical housing having an inlet that receives the stream of compressed air containing oil from the air compressor. Within the oil separator, there is a deflector baffle that redirects the flow of the oil to a swirling, downwardly directed path along the inner surface of the cylindrical housing where the air is separated out therefrom and passes upwardly to exit through a fluid outlet formed in the cover of the separator. The swirling oil flows downwardly through an annular slot formed between a circular plate and the inner surface of the cylindrical housing into a lower chamber where the oil is channeled by radially directed baffles into radial channels to redirect that oil toward an oil outlet at the center of the circular bottom where that oil exits to be re-circulated in the combination unit or for disposal.

Abstract: A vapor-liquid separator includes an outer tube, an introduction tube, a delivery tube, and a discharge tube. The introduction tube allows passage of a vapor-liquid two-phase fluid in a swirling state. The delivery tube allows passage of the vapor phase separated from the vapor-liquid two-phase fluid. The introduction tube and the delivery tube are coaxially provided at the corresponding axially opposite ends of the outer tube. The discharge tube is provided on the outer tube in the vicinity of the axial end face of the outer tube on the side toward the introduction tube. The discharge tube is adapted to discharge therefrom the liquid phase separated from the vapor-liquid two-phase fluid. An outlet of the introduction tube and a delivery port of the delivery tube are located axially inside the outer tube by respectively predetermined axial distances while facing each other with a predetermined axial distance therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6896719
Abstract: A dirt collecting system for a vacuum cleaner includes a dirt cup formed from a cylindrical sidewall having a disc shaped member separating the dirt cup into an upper portion and a lower portion. The dirty airstream flows past the disc shaped member from the upper portion to the lower portion through a small gap between the outer periphery of the disc shaped member and the sidewall of the dirt cup. The disc shaped member is supported on a centrally located conduit which has apertured walls located both above and below the disc shaped member. The apertured walls allows the airstream to flow into the conduit for further filtering or exiting the dirt cup. The apertured wall located above the disc shaped member improves sustained performance by enabling the airstream to continue to flow through the dirt cup as the lower portion of the dirt cup fills with large dirt particles and the apertured wall located beneath the disc shaped member becomes increasingly restricted.
