Patent number: 5332410Abstract: A tubular filter with porous silicon carbide for filtering particles of soot out of the exhaust gas of a diesel engine is mounted between two holders in a gas duct where one of the holders is spring loaded and the other has a bore that communicates with a bore connecting with the inside of the filter. The holders have surfaces facing the filter that are concavely spherical. The filter ends are provided with matching convexly spherical surfaces and they are directly on the filter ends or on an intermediate piece tightly seated on the filter end. The spherical surfaces are not necessary at the spring loaded holder and for some embodiments the holder can have a convexly spherical surface. Patent number: 4737174Abstract: A multiple stage filter assembly which combines a permanently framed particulate filter media layer with an odor and particulate removal filter media layer which is removably mounted to the particulate permanent filter frame in overlying relationship to the outer surface of the particulate layer. The odor removal filter media layer is held in position by a plurality of filter retaining members which cooperate with the main frame structure to provide support for the gaseous filter layer. The retaining members function in a manner which permits simple removal and replacement of the gaseous filter layer without disturbing the permanently framed particulate filter layer.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1987Date of Patent: April 12, 1988Assignee: Columbus Industries, Inc.Inventor: Harold T. Patent number: 4732675Abstract: A filtration unit comprising a filtration media subunit secured in an outer frame. The subunit comprises a fibrous filtration media enclosed in an inner frame having an upstream frame element and a downstream frame element. Each frame element has longitudinal and transverse struts and the intersection of these struts is in a single plane on the side of the frame elements which contact the filtration media. In one embodiment the filtration unit is enclosed in a sock of knit fabric; in another embodiment, there is a piece of knit fabric between the outer frame and the downstream frame element of the inner frame. The longitudinal struts may have portions which are perpendicular to and project beyond the principal plane of the periphery of the downstream frame element. If such perpendicularly projecting portions are provided, they are preferably arcuate in configuration.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1986Date of Patent: March 22, 1988Assignee: McNeilab, Inc.Inventors: Anthony Badolato, Melissa A. Patent number: 4692177Abstract: An air cleaner assembly includes a pair of molded housing members, each of which include four side walls and an open end. The opposite end of one of the members carries an outlet tube for connection to the air intake system of the vehicle, and the opposite end of the other member includes a lattice-work structure defining openings to admit air into the air cleaner assembly. The two housings snap together by receiving the side walls of the one member into the open end of the other member, and the members defining the lattice-work structure engage a panel cartridge filter assembly to force the latter into an adhesive carried in a groove extending around a flange defined on the one member.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1986Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Allied CorporationInventors: Allen B. Wright, Willard L. Chichester

Patent number: 4689058Abstract: A composite stove hood filter consists of a primary metal mesh filter and a nonwoven, secondary disposable filter. The secondary filter is a low basis weight (0.2 oz./yd..sup.2 to 1.0 oz./yd..sup.2) spun-bonded polymer sheet which is attached to the primary filter by means of elastic bands or Velcro strips. A patch of melt-blown polymer material, impregnated with air freshener, may be attached to the spun-bonded sheet of the secondary filter to freshen the air as it is filtered.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1986Date of Patent: August 25, 1987Assignee: Kimberly-Clark CorporationInventors: Clifford M. Vogt, Peter W. Shipp, Jr., Cynthia C. Pendley
