With Additional Support Means Not Positively Engaged Or Joined To Media (e.g., Across Face Of Filter) Patents (Class 55/501)
  • Patent number: 4657570
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a device (50) for providing filtration of air. The device includes a body (70) and a cover (72) with each having endless mating structure (76) and (78) which may be welded together thereby mechanically pinching a flat sheet filter media (74) and holding it in place. The cut edge of the filter media (74) is encapsulated. The filter media (74) is held outwardly from bottom (92) of body (70) by gussets (90) to provide sufficient area for air to pass through. Inlet openings (110) are provided between top (94) and endless mating structure (78) in a fashion which allows top (94) to be attached to a flat wall of a sealed housing of a type used for disk drive systems.

  • Patent number: 4652285
Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a filter element. The filter element is formed of a sheet of gas-porous filter material which has been folded into accordian pleats. Alternate pleat-folds are of tight, near knife-edge definition, and arcuate form definition. Hence, all folds on one side of the accordian-folded material are of the knife-edge form, and all folds on the other side are of the arcuate. The pleated material is turned into a cylindrical conformation, with the arcuate folds confronting the central axis of the cylinder, and the tight, knife-edge folds outwardly directed. An adhesive-backed band circumscribes the cylinder to hold the accordian-folded material in such form. Ends caps, one with a central aperture formed therein, are fixed to the ends of the cylinder. The latter is then positioned and secured under a venturi section or pipe. The venturi section or pipe, in any cross-section thereof, is of rectilinear shape.

  • Patent number: 4600420
Abstract: A filter having a structural framework (45) formed integral with and surrounding an active filtering area, and a process for manufacturing the filter are disclosed. The process includes (a) masking selected areas (40) on a sheet (30) of filter media, which areas will serve as the active filtering areas in the end filter product; (b) applying to the remaining exposed areas of the media a liquid-phase filler material; (c) forcing the material to fully penetrate and completely saturate the exposed media areas; (d) and curing the filler-saturated media areas whereby the filler material solidifies within the fiber structure of the media making that portion of the media sheet impervious to any air flow therethrough. The sealed media area (45) provides a structurally integral framework which is continuous with the active filtering media area (40) of the filter. The filter may then be secured along its integral framework area (45) to a suitable mounting substrate surface.

  • Patent number: 4439219
Abstract: A filter assembly comprising a filter retainer apparatus, an air filter frame and having a removable pleated filter media. The pleated filter element is secured within the frame by the retainer apparatus which comprises an expandible retainer having elongated flanges disposed on opposite ends. One flange is secured to a rod which slidably fits within a sleeve to which the other flange is attached. Resilient apparatus, preferably an elongated helical spring positioned between the sleeve and the rod, keeps the flanges in spaced relationship. One of the flanges engages one end fold in the filter element and forces it into contact with the frame. The rod is then forced into the sleeve compressing the spring and the other flange engages the other end fold of the filter element, forcing the other end fold into contact with the frame. The spring forces the rod and the sleeve apart so that the flanges securely hold the filter element in the frame.

  • Patent number: 4233040
Abstract: The engine of a self-propelled combine is mounted in an enclosure having an inlet through which cooling air is drawn by an engine-driven fan. The air is filtered by a rotating disk-like screen mounted over the air inlet before passing through a radiator adjacent the inlet. A duct extends across the face of the disk from its center to periphery, changes direction and terminates with an open end adjacent the inlet side of the fan by-passing the radiator. The duct is also open adjacent the face of the screen so that the fan draws air through the duct, (some of the air being necessarily drawn from inside the screen as it passes the duct opening) so that foreign material filtered from the mass of cooling air being drawn through the unobstructed portion of the screen and held on the screen exterior surface is removed and carried through the duct. A trash knife rigidly attached to the periphery of the screen extends outwards parallel to the screen's axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4217121
Abstract: A filter module has a housing providing a receptacle for a standard filter element, and also has a lateral extension for accommodating securing means to hold the filter element in place. The lateral extension defines a grille opening for removeably receiving an outlet grille in flush relationship, the grille opening extending laterally beyond the receptacle. A seal gasket closes the space between the grille and the filter element, embracing the securing means.

  • Patent number: 4211543
Abstract: An improved filter element assembly for use in an air cleaner on an internal combustion engine comprises a perforated liner. A replaceable filter element comprising a pleated filter medium is releasably coupled to the liner. A safety sleeve assembly is interposed between the filter medium and the liner. An outer liner surrounds the filter medium and exerts a radially inward force thereon to bias the pleats into engagement with the liner. The filter element assembly can be reconditioned when the filter medium becomes used with a replacement kit which includes a new filter element, safety sleeve assembly, and outer liner. The used filter element assembly is disassembled and the worn components thereof replaced with the new components of the kit. The filter medium is expandable from a collapsed cylindrical form in which the filter element is shipped to an expanded conical form for use during filtering operations.

  • Patent number: 4198726
Abstract: An improvement in a traveling pneumatic cleaner for vacuum collection of fiber waste from a textile mill room in the form of a filter disposed in a receptacle for separating fiber waste from an air current passing through the receptacle. The filter defines a surface of revolution, preferably taking the form of a substantially conical foraminous surface about a central axis of the receptacle, and so arranged relative to the receptacle that the air current will be directed around the filter and then through the same with the velocity of the air current being diminished and lowered as it passes through the filter. Optionally, the filtering may be augmented by a foam filter medium cooperating with the foraminous surface.

  • Patent number: 4138234
Abstract: Holder for an annular filter includes a support frame or basket with a flared portion at its upper end which cooperates with the inner leg of an inverted U-shaped sealing ring to clamp the upper end of the filter. The sealing ring has its outer leg seated on a sealing gasket positioned on top of a support plate surrounding an aperture through which the filter is lowered during operation of a particle collection apparatus. The holder is replaceably sealed in position by screwing a pair of threaded rings together to force the flared portion downwardly. The diameters of the various parts are larger than the aperture to prevent them from being dropped through the aperture and the overall design is such that the filters can be replaced from the upper clean side of the collection apparatus rather than the lower dirty side.
