  • Patent number: 5873223
Abstract: Grass cutting machinery particularly suitable for mowing golf greens which are covered in early morning dew has an apparatus for preparing the grass in advance of the grass cutting blades. This relies on creating a flow of air around the dew covered grass to dislodge the dew from the grass. The flow of air can be effected by a blower, or suction.

  • Patent number: 5626008
Abstract: A mulching device which includes a mulching plate formed by a disk provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings disposed inwardly of the periphery of the disk. A cutting blade edge is located forward of a trailing edge of each opening, the cutting edges being axially spaced from a top surface of the disk. The mulching plate can be used in a lawn mower for replacing the conventional mower blade. A mulching adapter includes a hopper having a base for attachment to a top deck of a mower housing, the hopper having a lower tubular portion adapted to project through an opening in the deck, the tubular portion having a lower outlet end for positioning slightly above the path of travel of the cutting edges. The mulching plate is safer than conventional mower blades and achieves effective mulching of even coarse lawn and garden debris by using the power of the small engine of the conventional mower.

  • Patent number: 5105610
Abstract: A crop stalk guide assembly for use on a crop gathering header cutterbar of a crop harvesting machine includes a support framework and a plurality of flat guide plates. The support framework is attachable to the cutterbar of the crop gathering header so as to extend forwardly from below the sickle guards and a sickle of the cutterbar. The flat guide plates are attached on the top of a forward portion of the support framework so as to extend above the cutterbar sickle guards and sickle. The guide plates are spaced laterally from one another so as to define elongated passageways between them running in the direction of forward travel and leading rearwardly between the sickle guards to the sickle of the cutterbar.

  • Patent number: 5090183
Abstract: A convertible mulching mower (10) including a housing (12) and chute (30). Chute (30) can be selectively blocked with a chute plug (32) to selectively put mower (10) in a mulching mode. Mounted beneath housing (12) is a plurality of kickers (72) which serve to deflect the grass clippings generally downwardly and inwardly to cause them to penetrate the standing grass blades in the cutting path, when the mower (10) is in its mulching mode (when chute plug (32) is blocking discharge chute (30)). When chute plug (32) is removed, it can be replaced by various grass handling means, including a grass bag (36) or a side discharge chute extension (140). A wash-out system (129) can be included in plug (32) to allow the underside of housing (12) to be sprayed with water to remove accumulated grass clippings. Wash-out system (129) can be used for mulching or non-mulching mowers.

  • Patent number: 4365461
Abstract: There is described an implement for the harvesting of seed-producing plants which is suitable for use with mechanical harvesters and is formed of a chassis which comprises basically a hollow front transverse beam and a structure defined by lateral, base and rear parts and a structure which includes a mesh-covered portion; at least two quill-defining trays arranged at an angle with respect to the horizontal, one alongside the other and with their quills pointing in the direction of advance, they being directly connected in front of the front beam; defining between said trays at least one access passage to a cutting station; a cutting station at the end of each passage and arranged slightly to the rear of the trays on the front beam; on which there is provided a high-speed cutting disk which partially overlaps the respective passage; there being provided, in the vicinity of each cutting station and also borne by the front beam a stalk-impelling mechanism adapted to bring, by impeller elements arranged to move o

  • Patent number: 4330984
Abstract: A combined header is equipped with crop divider assemblies operable to direct crops into the path of movement of the header. Each divider assembly has two longitudinally aligned sections that are adjustable relative to each other to vary the length of the divider assembly. A plurality of plant guide rods extend from the forward section of the divider assembly in an upwardly and inwardly direction. The innermost rod terminates in a flexible terminal portion. Separate adjustable mount assemblies support the divider assemblies ahead of opposite ends of the reel of the header.

  • Patent number: 4312175
Abstract: An agricultural rotary mower has a frame mountable upon three point linkage of a tractor. A rotor supporting beam extends in its operating position to one side of the tractor. Extended from the beam are two spindles with ground engaging skids at the lower end. Frustro conical rotors are mounted on the spindles and in use a single cutting swathe is formed with the rotors driven by independant drives to rotate in opposite directions towards one another. A crop compressing head is located in advance of the rotors and this together with a slight inclination of the shafts towards one another ensures an even cut of crop and a wide relatively undisturbed windrow of cut crop.

  • Patent number: 4301644
Abstract: An attachment for a combine harvester includes a plurality of narrow housings disposed forwardly of the sickle bar of the harvester. Within each housing an endless belt carries a multiplicity of flexible tines which, for a given course of the belt, extend laterally across a grain receiving channel between housings. The tines protrude through slots in the housings for the course of the belt moving toward the harvesting machine, but are folded within the housings on the return course.

  • Patent number: 4301643
Abstract: An agricultural mower having a crop cutting rotor that is rotatable about an upright axis and cuts a strip of crop along a cut edge of the crop so as to emerge laterally from said cut edge, and a crop guide that is located adjacent the periphery of the rotor where it emerges from said cut edge of the crop so as to support the crop upright at said edge while it is cut. The guide thereby avoids leaving any uncut lines of crop caused by the rotor pushing crop aside at a cut edge in the crop where it is unsupported by adjacent standing crop. The invention is particularly applicable to a mower with two or more cutting rotors that are rotatable in the same sense about respective upright axes alongside one another with one rotor offset rearwards relative to the other so as to cut crop adjacent a cut edge left by said other rotor, the crop guide being located adjacent the periphery of said one rotor to support the crop along said edge.
