Abstract: There is disclosed a solution of at least one fluoroxy compound, wherein said solution has a fluoroxy compound concentration of at least 0.5 meq/liter; said concentration containing about 35 to 100% of an acyl hypofluorite, based on the total number of equivalents of fluoroxy compounds present. The acyl hypofluorite has the formula X(CF.sub.2).sub.n COOF wherein X is H or F and n is 5 to 16. The solution is prepared by treating a suspension of a corresponding specified alkali salt with excess F.sub.2, and is useful as a selective fluorinating agent.
Abstract: Novel lactonic derivatives and their use as starting materials for preparing macrocyclic hydroxyketones useful as intermediates in the preparation of fragrant compounds.
Abstract: A process is provided for producing substituted 2-cyclopentenones represented by the general formula: ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, and R.sup.5 are hydrogen or lower aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups. The process comprises treating a nitroalkane with a substituted acrylic acid ester in the presence of a base, followed by saponification, to yield a substituted 4-nitropentanoic acid which acid is then treated with strong acid under dehydrative conditions to yield the subject 2-cyclopentenone.
Abstract: 4-Formyl-3,6,6-trimethylbicyclo[3.1.0]hex-3-ene is oxidized in one vessel by a peroxy acid via 3,4-epoxy-4-formyl-3,6,6-trimethylbicyclo[3.1.0]hexane and 3,4-epoxy-4-formyloxy-3,6,6-trimethylbicyclo[3.1.0]hexane to 3,6,6-trimethyl-3-hydroxybicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-4-one. The four compounds are novel and are intermediates to pyrethroid insecticides.
