  • Patent number: 6408607
Abstract: A method for false twist texturing a synthetic yarn, as well as the thus-produced crimped yarn, wherein a false twist is produced on the yarn at a speed of a false twist unit, which exceeds 2.2 times of the yarn speed and is above a saturation limit for absorbing a false twist in the yarn. The overtwisted yarn is set in the false twist zone at a temperature higher than 200° C. In proportion with the advancing speed, the withdrawal speed does not exceed 1.4 times the advancing speed, and is below 1,000 m/min. With that, a false twist textured crimped yarn is produced, which has large and small cross sections with curls and bows, which alternate with one another and have opposite directions of twist.

  • Patent number: 5414989
Abstract: A linear course of thread is required for a high speed friction false-twisting unit. For this purpose, the region of travel of the thread through the center of a three spindle disk set triangle should be freely accessible. One of the disk sets is adapted to be swung out on a lever from the other two disk sets. A toothed belt drive is used both in the case of a tangential belt drive and in units driven by an electric motor. A further advantage is that this arrangement can be used in units which have the possibility of a change of the center-to-center distance. The belts from driving rollers which drive the disk set spindles are held outside the center of the disk triangle through which the thread passes.

One of the discs is composed of a thin flexible material, and a pressure applying member is mounted adjacent the back side of the flexible disc for biasing the disc toward the other disc locally at the twisting zone to firmly engage the yarn passing therethrough. The discs are movable with respect to the pressure applying member such that the ratio of twist insertion to yarn speed may be varied. In one illustrated embodiment, the discs are mounted so as to permit selective placement on opposite sides of the pressure applying member and reversal of their direction of rotation, and such that either S twist or Z twist may be imparted, without changing the direction or location of the yarn advance.

  • Patent number: 4387557
Abstract: A yarn false twisting apparatus and method is provided which permits ready conversion from S to Z twist, or vice versa. The apparatus comprises a pair of friction discs which are rotatably mounted on a common carrier plate, and the carrier plate is pivotally mounted to the frame of the apparatus such that the discs may be selectively rotated between first and second operative positions disposed 180 degrees from each other. The discs are rotated in a common rotational direction in each operative position, and the yarn is advanced through a twisting zone between the discs in a direction parallel to a line extending perpendicularly between the axes of rotation of the discs. Thus conversion from S to Z twist, or vice versa, may be effected by pivoting the carrier plate between the two operative positions, without changing the direction of rotation of the discs or the yarn path of travel.

Abstract: A yarn false twisting apparatus and method is disclosed which comprises a pair of friction discs, with one of the discs being thin and flexible, and a pressure applying member for biasing the flexible disc toward the other disc locally at the twisting zone. The discs and pressure applying member are mounted to permit selective movement whereby the ratio of twist to yarn speed may be varied, and to achieve a desired twist in the advancing yarn. The biasing force of the pressure applying member is also adjustable, to achieve an essentially slipless operation by assuring that the torque exerted by the discs exceeds the natural restoring torque of the yarn.

  • Patent number: 4372106
Abstract: A drive system for a yarn false twisting apparatus is disclosed which may be readily converted to produce either S or Z twist, and which insures adequate tension of the drive belt. The apparatus comprises a pair of twist imparting members, and a drive belt system for rotating the twist imparting members which comprises a drive whorl positioned to engage a tangential belt, and a series of pulleys having a drive belt entrained thereabout for rotatably interconnecting the whorl and twist imparting members. The whorl and one of the pulleys are mounted coaxially on a whorl support member, which may be selectively positioned in one of two operating positions to place the whorl on opposite sides of the tangential belt. Another of the pulleys is an idler pulley, which is adjustably mounted for movement in a direction perpendicular to the yarn path of travel and so as to permit maintenance of an adequate tension on the drive belt.

  • Patent number: 4339915
Abstract: An apparatus for false twisting a yarn is provided which comprises, in one embodiment, a thin pliable disc mounted for rotation with a cooperating disc or roller to define a twisting zone between opposing friction surfaces thereof. A pressure applying member is mounted adjacent the back face of the pliable disc for biasing the disc toward the other member locally at the twisting zone so as to firmly engage the yarn passing through the twisting zone and while the friction surfaces remain in substantially non-contacting relationship with respect to each other. The pressure applying member utilizes an air cushion between the member and back face of the disc to minimize friction. Where two discs are employed, they may be mounted for rotation in a common direction, and such that the yarn may be guided through the twisting zone without passing between the axes of rotation of the discs.

Abstract: A false-twist apparatus has a support defining three generally parallel and radially spaced axes surrounding a central axially extending twisting region. Respective shafts are journaled in this support for rotation about the axes and carry respective staggered sets of axially spaced disks whose rims radially overlap at the twisting region. Yarn eyes above and below the sets of disks are axially aligned with this twisting region so that a yarn to be false-twisted can pass axially through the lower eye, then zigzag along the regions in contact with the disks, and then pass axially out through the other eye. All of the disks are permanently joined and synchronously rotated. A holder displaceable in a straight line on the apparatus support carries a plurality of arms having yarn-pushing tips that can push a yarn to be false-twisted radially into the region.
