  • Patent number: 6023925
Abstract: A colored yarn is made in an inexpensive manner that allows a wide variety of different colors or hues within the product line, and also allows a wide variety of different effects to be produced including yarns with minimal leather effect, or yarns with a distinct and desired heather effect. A first coarse feeder yarn, e.g. a 1/1 semi worsted yarn, is ring or open end spun with about 2.5 turns per inch. The coarse feeder yarn is dyed, dried, and then cut and opened up into individual fibers about four inches long or less (preferably two inches long or less). The individual fibers are blended with differently colored or hued fibers produced in the same way, and/or with greige or colored staple fibers, to produce a blended composite of fibers. The blended composite is then spun, for example ring spun or open end spun, into a final colored yarn. Rayon fibers may especially effectively and uniquely be utilized, although almost any fiber or mix of fibers can be used.

  • Patent number: 5852924
Abstract: Thread is wound between spin hooks (20) and anchor hooks (26) and around loop-pins (TP, BP) to form two thread groups, one extending between a first spin hook (20) and the anchor hook (26) and the other extending between the anchor hook (26) and the second spin hook (20). The spin hooks (20) are both rotated in the same direction, at the same speed, for separately twisting the two thread groups. Then, the two separately wound thread groups are moved laterally together and allowed to unwind and at the same time wind together in the opposite direction, to form a single fly fishing leader, or the like. The thread is wound to form twelve thread strands in a butt section of the leader, ten thread strands in a mid-section of the leader and eight thread strands in a tip section of the leader (FIG. 11). As a result, the leader that is formed tapers from the butt end to the tip end.

  • Patent number: 5837009
Abstract: A method for cotton purification is described, where the cotton is subject to a purification process in water. The process solution contains calcium hydroxide and a non-ionic detergent wetting agent. Following this processing the cotton is rendered hydrophilic. The cotton is carried in a net with simultaneous removal of the adsorbed processing solution. It is then washed and bleached with H.sub.2 O.sub.2 or ClONa in a two-stage process. The effluent water is processed by anaerobic digestion in the thermophilic region for the production of biogas. The effluent water from the anaerobic digestion process is further processed by aerobic biological treatment. The whole process operates with energy self-sufficiency without resulting in environment pollution. Finally, a high purity cotton is produced with high water absorptivity which is suitable for spinning for the production of quality cotton yarns suitable for weaving quality fabrics or dyeing.

  • Patent number: 5638669
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a twisted yarn includes the step of removing two rovings from two separate supplies and passing each roving through a separate drawing device. From each roving a separate spun yarn is produced by ring-spinning. Each spun yarn is collected in the form of a bobbin on a yarn carrier of separate hollow spindles, wherein the separate hollow spindles are positioned atop one another. With formation of a yarn balloon the spun yarn is withdrawn from the bobbins and guided through the hollow spindle axle of the respective hollow spindle. The spun yarn withdrawn from the upper one of the hollow spindles is guided through the hollow spindle axle of the lower one of the hollow spindles. Both spun yarns are then guided together to a winding device positioned below the lower one of the hollow spindles. The hollow spindles are rotated as a function of the winding speed of the winding device such that a twist of the spun fibers is at least partially canceled.

  • Patent number: 4840022
Abstract: In order to service work stations of either spinning or doubling machines of the type having several service units travelling alongside their work stations, whenever an inspection of a given service unit becomes necessary, the given service unit to be inspected is brought from an operative condition into an inspection position. Such position is crosswise to the usual operative direction of travel of the service unit, and its side to be inspected (and which is otherwise turned towards the machine) is preferably thereby rendered accessible. Also, its normal work path is opened to use by another service unit. Such other service unit then travels into the opened work path and takes over the task of servicing the work station or stations in the assigned operative work area of the given service unit being inspected until same is brought back from its inspection position into its work path upon completion of the inspection, and again assumes the task of servicing work stations of its assigned work area.

Abstract: In order to spread optical fibers emerging from an end of cable and to firmly attach the cable end with ends of protective jackets in which the spread fibers are strung, the following steps are performed by means a spreading device including mainly a grooved hollow distributor. The distributor is fastened to a sawn off end of a grooved elongated ring in the cable by pinching a central armature emerging from the cable, by jaws housed in the distributor. A split ring is strung around a grooved revolution portion of the distributor. For each fiber, a longitudinal slot of the split ring and a respective groove of the revolution portion are superposed, the end of the jacket of the fiber is entered into the groove through the slot, and the jacket is forced into the groove by partially rotating the split ring so as to superpose the slot and another distributor groove.
