  • Patent number: 6535149
Abstract: This invention relates to an electronic device, for a fax machine in particular, comprising controlling means (11) capable of associating compression codes or code words with strings of source information in accordance with a first processing speed, and storing means, for example shift registers (31, 32) capable of appending the code words to one another so as to form blocks of compressed information, in accordance with a second processing speed, greater than the first. The device is also capable of “extracting” the single code words from blocks of compressed information at this second processing speed. By way of the technique of using different processing speeds, the device makes it possible to obtain total speeds of compression and/or decompression of the information respectively to be transmitted and/or received much greater than those obtainable up to now with the known devices.

  • Patent number: 6297682
Abstract: Disclosed is an amplifier circuit comprising: an amplifier 1 which is activated when supplied with a control signal SE and which outputs a pair of amplified signals D and DC; a detection circuit 2 for detecting one of the pair of amplified signals D and DC being changed in potential and outputting a detection signal PO upon detection of the potential change; and a latching circuit 3 which receives a set signal S and the detection signal PO and which outputs the control signal SE. The latching circuit 3 starts outputting the control signal SE in response to an input of the set signal S and terminates the output of the control signal SE upon input of the detection signal PO.

  • Patent number: 6016647
Abstract: A method for using a bunching type twisting machine to manufacture a steel cord made up of one core filament having a continuous wavy form and five to eight sheath filaments not having a wavy form disposed around the core filament, the cross-sectional shape of the cord forming an ellipse whose orientation is substantially constant in the length direction of the cord. After a core filament is preformed with a helical wavy form of a smaller pitch than the cord twisting pitch, this is squashed to form a flat helical core filament at a stage before it is twisted together with sheath filaments, and then sheath filaments are twisted around this flat helical core filament to make an intermediate product cord and this intermediate product cord is then squashed and thereby flattened before being taken up on a reel.

  • Patent number: 5390481
Abstract: A helical bundle of tubes is fabricated with a carousel-type machine, preferably rotating about a vertical axis. Spools of coil tubing are mounted on radial beams extending from a central rotating hub, and are indexed to maintain the axes of the spools in a constant direction. In the preferred vertical rotating axis configuration, the tubes are pulled off the spools by an overhead capstan, and the finished bundle is deposited on a take-up reel. A preferred way of indexing the spools uses chains passing around equal size sprockets attached to the vertical support shafts with at least one of the chains passing around a stationary central sprocket.

  • Patent number: 5282353
Abstract: A strander for generating a multi-strand cable including at least one pay-off station which is spaced radially from a common rotational axis along which the cable is formed. Each station includes a reel for paying-off a strand to be used in the cable, and each reel s disposed with its axis in a plane normal to a radial line from the common axis. Furthermore, each pay-off station includes a mechanism for causing the axis of the reel to rotate in the plane normal to the radial line. A stabilizer mechanism is provided for a flywheel disposed coaxially with the product reel, and a torque differential device is coupled to be driven by the reel and to drive the flywheel in a direction opposed to the rotational direction of the reel, wherein any change in the angular momentum of the reel is opposed by a change in the angular momentum of the flywheel.

  • Patent number: 4506499
Abstract: A fluid operated pintle assembly for rotatively supporting a reel where the pintle is carried on a piston within a cylinder and the piston is spring biased to a reel engaging position and retracted under fluid pressure only when a blocking mechanism is retracted. The blocking mechanism comprises a fluid actuated piston cylinder assembly having a stop member which may be received in a cavity in the pintle piston to permit retraction of the piston or inserted between the piston and the bottom of the cylinder to prevent retraction of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4426835
Abstract: A reel holder and clamping arrangement for a strander cradle is disclosed. The reel holder and clamping arrangement comprises two pintle assemblies each incuding a bearing housing, a pintle rotatably mounted in the bearing housing and means for mounting each bearing housing in axial alignment one on each side frame member. First cam means are associated with at least one of the pintle assemblies for moving its associated pintle along the axis of the reel for clamping a reel between the pintles. A reel holder engages the flanges of the reel when the reel is received within the cradle for positioning the core of the reel in alignment with the pintles of the pintle assemblies. Second cam means are associated with at least one of the pintle assemblies for moving the reel holder out of engagement with the flanges of the reel when the reel is clamped between the pintles.

  • Patent number: 4130985
Abstract: An actuatable member of a pintle assembly is slidably movable along an axis for movement relative to a reel-carrying cradle support member between reel engaging and disengaging positions. Compression springs are used to urge the actuatable members of the illustrated embodiments toward the reel-engaging positions. Locking devices, which can move between locking and releasing positions, are each arranged to directly cooperate and block the movement of an actuatable member to a disengaging position thereof in the locking position of the locking device. The locking devices may include blocking elements such as rigid displaceable balls or pins, or may include cam arrangements and the like. A fluid pressure system is provided to act at least on the locking devices and release the same when fluid pressure is applied. Advantageously, the fluid pressure system also acts on the actuatable member to move the same to the reel disengaging position upon release of the locking device.

  • Patent number: 4079580
Abstract: A fail-safe locking device for reel support systems is described which is suitable for use with reels such as those used with wire stranders and similar machines. In the embodiments described, a pintle supporting shaft member is normally biased by a spring to an extended position. A safety plunger is provided which has a stepped exterior surface so as to define a recess or step. The safety plunger is normally biased by a spring to a disabling position to urge a blocking member, such as a hardened steel ball or sphere, into the path of movement of an abutment surface of the shaft member to automatically and positively lock the shaft member and the pintle. In the locked condition, the plunger member and, therefore, the pintle, cannot accidentally release the reel.
