Patent number: 4731064Abstract: To function as intended, it is desirable that an external or condom catheter be properly applied and maintained upon the penis. An ill-fitting of the device commonly occurs when the catheter is being unrolled during application, and action which tends to push the free end of the penis away from an intended position within the conical body portion of the catheter. Addtionally, an unrolling of the catheter tends to rearwardly displace the relatively loose and relaxed penile skin, causing a displacement of the free end of the penis within the conical body portion once the penile skin returns to its relaxed state. A twisting or kinking of the catheter, leading to outlet obstruction and backflow problems, often results. The solution is one or a plurality of rearwardly or proximally extending flap members emerging preferably from within the conical body portion of the external catheter and adhesively securable to the penis prior to an unrolling the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1987Date of Patent: March 15, 1988Inventor: Eugene L. Heyden

Patent number: 4640688Abstract: A urine collection catheter having a tubular portion open at its outer end and designed to be connected to a urine receptacle and a cup or cone shaped portion integrally connected to the inner end of said tubular portion, the cup shaped portion being of a shape to conform generally with that of the tip or head or glans of a typical penis. The cup shaped portion has a pressure sensitive adhesive on the inner surface to enable the catheter to adhere to the head of a penis when the catheter is pressed into engagement with the penis. The cup shaped portion is conical and is connected to the tubular member by a bulbous portion to receive surges of urine. In one version, the thickness of the cup shaped portion decreases from its outer to its inner end.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1985Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Mentor CorporationInventor: Thomas M. Patent number: 4638790Abstract: A male contraceptive hood which is adhesively secured to the penis, the hood being initially rolled up and the interior of the hood being free of adhesive until it is unrolled. The hood has a thin sheath which serves as the contraceptive device and an outer cylindrical member which is initially rolled together with the thin sheath. The outer cylindrical member has an adhesive on a portion of its outer surface, separated from the outer surface by a release agent, the adhesive being transferred to the inner surface of the sheath as the hood is unrolled onto a penis. The outer member can then be removed leaving only the thin inner sheath on the penis. A projecting portion is provided on the outer member for grasping the outer member to remove it.In a preferred form, a lubricant is disposed between the sheath and the inner surface of the outer cylindrical member. This lubricant remains on the outer surface of the sheath to facilitate removal of the outer member and also to aid in intercourse.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1985Date of Patent: January 27, 1987Assignee: Mentor CorporationInventors: Anthony J. Patent number: 4576599Abstract: Sanitary pads for men are disposable in a storage mode in which they are flat and non-overlapping for easy carrying in pockets. The sanitary pads may be folded in order to form generally semi-cylindrical portions which envelop the wearer's penis and prevent embarrassment to incontinent men. In the storage or carrying mode, the pad may alternately be T-shaped or constructed in a generally rectangular shape. Adhesive means, such as double sided tape, or fabric loop and hook fasteners may be used to secure the pads in proper position. The pads are a layered structure including an inner relatively thick layer of absorbent material, a water barrier layer made of plastic, and an outer relatively thin absorbent layer.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1984Date of Patent: March 18, 1986Assignee: Florida State UniversityInventor: Harry Lipner

Patent number: 4476879Abstract: An apparatus for collecting urine from laboratory animals includes a collector for accumulating the urine and a mounting plate which is adhered to the abdomen of the animal with a quick-drying adhesive. Preferably, the collector is releaseably connected to the mounting plate by screw threads. When the collector is not being utilized, a gnaw-resistant protective block is mounted over the mounting plate to protect the mounting plate from gnawing by the rat.The process for practicing the instant invention includes the steps of adhering the mounting plate 14 to the animal's abdomen with an adhesive applied so as to effect a seal around the opening of the animal's urethra in order to prevent contamination of the urine. Thereafter, the container is coupled to the mounting plate and urine collected.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1981Date of Patent: October 16, 1984Inventor: Andre J. Jackson

Patent number: 4388923Abstract: An external urinary drainage means in the form of a condom which at the outer end thereof terminates in or is connected to a length of hose for carrying off the urine. The condom is formed as a short condom which covers only the head (glans) of the penis. Extending from the outer end of the condom or from the length of hose is a sheathing body which, when the condom surrounds the head of the penis and the foreskin has been drawn forward over the condom, can be made to encase the condom and foreskin, thereby providing a labyrinth seal. At the inner edge of the condom, a recessed section can be provided to accomodate the neck of the penis at the corona. The sheathing body is tightly connected to the outer end of the condom or to the length of hose, preferably such that a space is formed between the length of hose, the condom and the sheathing body.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1981Date of Patent: June 21, 1983Inventor: Ken Heimreid
