Abstract: Earring having a body, a pin provided at one end of the body and formed with a locking groove, an accessory body provided at the other end to be locked with the locking groove, a handle and a spring. The spring is to be mounted in the lower portion of the accessory body, and the handle is configured to be fitted within the accessory body such that the spring presses at a first end against the inside of the handle and at a second end against the inside of the accessory body. The accessory body maintains an opening for receiving the pin and is formed with an insert groove within the opening into which the pin is inserted, which is elastically locked with the locking groove of the pin by a spring. When the handle is pressed the upper portion of the accessory body opens and the pin is released.

The jewelry adapters permit a person with pierced ears to wear large diameter earrings that are typically only capable of being worn by people with stretched ear holes. A jewelry adapter for use as an earring within a pierced hole of an ear includes an adapter body having an aperture, a post extending substantially perpendicularly outward from the adapter body, wherein the post is received within the pierced hole of the ear, a tunnel located within the aperture, and a large diameter earring located within the tunnel. A jewelry adapter for use with a necklace includes an adapter body including an aperture, a loop located behind the adapter body, wherein the loop receives the necklace within the loop, a tunnel located within the aperture, and a large diameter earring located within the tunnel.

A mounting post attached to the second end, where the mounting post has a diameter, and the diameter of the mounting post is less than the diameter of the mounting hole. A second clasp element attachable to the mounting post, where the second clasp element has a diameter, and the diameter of the second clasp element is greater than the diameter of the mounting hole. The second clasp element can engage the first clasp element and thereafter be disengaged.

Abstract: A body jewelry applicator includes a gripping member adapted to receive and retain the backing of a piece of body jewelry within a hole or opening. The gripping member may be made of a foam and have one or more holes in the ends thereof for receiving the backing. A release rod may be slidably positioned within the body and movable between a first position and a second position, movement of the release rod from the first position to the second position causing the release rod to engage and expel the backing from the gripping member.

Abstract: An earring backing assembly including an earring post having a locking groove, a body, a handle and a spring. The spring is mounted on the handle. The handle is fitted within the body such that the spring presses at one end against the handle and at another end against the body. Together the handle and the body maintain an opening for receiving the earring post with the handle maintaining a locking ridge within the opening. The spring biases the locking ridge towards the center of the opening. When the handle is depressed against the pressure of the spring, the handle pivots, moving the locking ridge away from the center of the opening allowing for the earring post to be inserted into the opening. When the handle depression is released, the spring bias returns the locking ridge back towards the center of the opening, engaging the locking groove of the post.

Abstract: A jewelry item has a closure that uses shape memory to provide two stable positions. For example, an earring has a setting and a pin, and the closure closes the pin over the ear. The closure consists of a leaf spring extending outwardly in a first loop part from a first location on the setting and looping back in a second loop part to a second location adjacent the first location on the setting. The loop parts each have shape memory and are set with different remembered shapes. The two different remembered shapes work against each other to flip the closure between two stable positions, a first position in which the closure connects to the pin to close the earring and a second position in which the closure is spaced away from the pin to open the earring. The design is particularly suitable for a huggie style earring.

The coating comprises predominantly chromium and, where a white finish is desired, a platinum group metal, preferably platinum. The substrate comprises predominantly tungsten carbide and a substantial amount of metal, preferably nickel. The coating is applied to the substrate using vapor deposition, such as physical vapor deposition. The metal and especially nickel will facilitate adhesion between the chromium in the coating and the substrate. The vapor deposition will further provide for superior adhesion as compared to traditional plating techniques. The improved jewelry article will maintain the brilliant, preferably white, finish of the coating due to the hard scratch resistant predominantly chromium coating and the improved adhesion between the coating and substrate.

Abstract: In a method of taking a star facet of a diamond and extending its length to the girdle (the outside perimeter) of the diamond, a shield style (obelisk-shaped) facet is produced in rounds and fancy cut diamonds, and on square and off squares it remains a three-sided facet but is made larger and longer. The facet becomes larger than it was previously. It becomes a five-sided facet when it was a three before (or a much larger three-sided facet on squares and off squares). The reason it becomes five-sided is because when the facet is extended it collides with the bezel and both upper girdle facets as it extends to the girdle on rounds and fancy cut diamonds. The new facet on square and off square becomes longer and larger but remains three-sided. When the new star facet of rounds, fancy, square and off square diamonds collide with the others it produces a new larger facet and makes an exchange of positions of the previous largest facet which is true of all rounds, fancy, square and off square.

Fabricated of a durable stainless steel material, the X-Earring is essentially cylindrical in shape, having expansible side walls and measuring approximately one half to three quarters inch in overall length, and preferably approximately five eighths inch in length; and approximately one half to three quarters inch in overall diameter, and preferably approximately five eighths inch in overall diameter.
