  • Patent number: 8261584
Abstract: The reversible mortise lock of the present invention can be installed on either the left or right side edges of a door opposite the door hinges. The lock includes a housing with a live bolt pivotally and slidably mounted in the housing. The live bolt slides between an extended position beyond the housing and a fully retracted position within the housing. When fully retracted, the live bolt can be rotated 180° so that the beveled face of the live bolt can be reversed. A finger pivotally mounted within the housing blocks full retraction of the live bolt when the mortise lock is installed in the door.

  • Patent number: 8161780
Abstract: A thumb operated door latch and lock assembly has an exterior grip and thumb lever, a motion converter, a key cylinder, a strengthening plate and an interior latch lever and locking knob. The thumb lever moves the converter which turns a latch tongue that extends through a receiver in the latch assembly. The interior lever turns a limited engagement interior hub collar. A figure eight opening in the collar turns the latch tongue to withdraw the latches. Turning the interior lever upward disables the thumb lever. Turning the lever to withdraw the latches moves a slide upward within guide plates. The slide turns an interior lever and an extended tongue on the key cylinder to withdraw the dead bolt simultaneously with the latches.

Abstract: A mortise lock includes a case. A locking slide forms a bore to receive a spring and a steel ball to allow the locking slide to be slidable with respect to the lock case to abut against and/or disengage from a locking latch. The mortise lock is operated by turning an inside knob to drive a deadbolt and a latch lever and the locking slide is moved inward to engage a lever hub assembly thereby ensuring a locked condition. The mortise lock cannot be unlocked by operating an outside lever. When an inside lever is depressed, the lever hub assembly is driven to cause the rocker arm to push away a hooking lever and a knob spindle assembly, thereby retracting the deadbolt and the latch bolt and simultaneously moving the locking slide outward to show an unlocked condition, whereby the mortise lock can be unlocked by operating the outside lever.

Abstract: The locking device contains an axle, a bolt, a positioning plate, and a cylinder. The axle is connected to a thumb-turn knob and, from a circumference of the axle, a lever is extended perpendicularly. The bolt has a vertical trough in a rear section. An end of the lever is embedded in the trough. The positioning plate has an elongated opening inside which the axle is embedded. The cylinder is positioned adjacent to and above the rear section of the bolt. The cylinder has a key hole in the center and an activation bar extended from a circumference of the cylinder. When the thumb-turn knob or a key in the key hole is turned, the positioning plate is moved towards an opposite direction. In turn, the lever of the axle pushes or pulls the bolt in the same directions as the key or the knob is turned.

At least one latch bolt (28-34) is displaceably arranged relative to the carrier (40) between a retracted, unlocked position and an extended, locked position. An urging means (60) acts on the at least one latch bolt (28-34) for urging the latch bolt (28-34) to its extended, locked position. A drive means is mounted on the carrier (40) for driving the at least one latch bolt (28-34) at least into its retracted position against the action of the urging means (60). A displacement mechanism is interposed between the drive means and the at least one latch bolt (28-34), the displacement mechanism comprising a cam member (64) rotatably driven by the drive means, the cam member (64) acting on a follower of the at least one latch bolt (28-34), the cam member (64) having a maximum throw when the at least one latch bolt (28-34) is proximate its retracted position.

The inner and outer members each can operate the latch bolt. A mounting member is connected to the movable member and mounted to the dead bolt and a spring board is biased to the dead bolt to retract the dead bolt into the escutcheon. When the inside door knob is rotated, the mounting member is lifted by the movable member and the dead bolt is freely pushed by the spring board to retract into the escutcheon when the mounting member is lifted. The latch bolt and the dead bolt are both retracted into the escutcheon by rotating the inside door knob.

A latch bolt is operably connected to the inside handle and movable between an extended, latching position and a retracted, unlatching position. A spring device is mounted to a deadbolt for biasing the deadbolt from a retracted, unlocking position toward an extended, locking position. A positioning member engages with and retains the deadbolt when the deadbolt is in the retracted position. An auxiliary bolt is operably connected to the positioning member and movable between an extended position and a retracted position. The auxiliary bolt disengages the positioning member from the deadbolt when the auxiliary bolt is in the retracted position such that the deadbolt is moved to the extended position by the spring device.

Abstract: A latch assembly comprises a first portion (32) defining an opening and a second portion (54) slidably disposed in the opening for movement of the first portion along the second portion. A securing element releasably connects the first portion and the second portion in a first relative axially connected position. In a mortise lock (20), the first portion and the second portion are thus movable together relative to the housing so that the first portion at least partially non-rotatably projects outwardly from the opening in the edge wall of the housing in an extended position and is inside the housing in a retracted position. Disconnecting the first portion from the second portion allows the first portion to move along the second portion in the first direction to a second axial position.
