  • Patent number: 6257030
Abstract: A multipoint lock assembly for securing a door that is hinged along one edge and that has a free, swingable edge opposite the hinged edge. The assembly includes a central latch and at least one remote latch vertically spaced therefrom along the free edge of the door. The retraction of all the latches is controlled by a central latch driving mechanism in response to a manual operation either of an exterior thumb-operated latch lever or of an interior doorknob. A deadbolt is also located proximate the central latch. The deadbolt is controlled either by an externally accessed cylinder lock in response to a manual insertion and rotation of a key or by a manual rotation of an interior-mounted thumb-turn. While the deadbolt is extended, the thumb-operated latch lever and the doorknob are inoperable. At least one of the latches includes a latch trigger. • Patent number: 6131966
Abstract: A holdback dog for a mortise lock including a holdback dog slidably mounted to a tab on the mortise lock locking link. The holdback dog is activated by first retracting the latchbolt using the inside handle and then unlocking the lock using either the key cylinder or the inside thumbturn. When the lock is unlocked, the locking link moves downward, placing a tab on the holdback dog slide in confronting engagement with a corresponding tab on the bolt slide. After the inside handle is released, the holdback dog tab holds the bolt slide, and therefor the latchbolt, in the retracted or "dogged" position. For normal or "undogged" operation, the slidable mounting of the holdback slide allows the bolt slide tab to engage the holdback dog tab and push the holdback dog slide out of the way, when the lock is unlocked and either handle is operated, thereby permitting normal operation.

  • Patent number: 5406814
Abstract: An improved latch guarded door lock and frame system is provided. A recessed surface is provided in a hollow metal frame, and is dimensioned to accommodate a latch guard so that the external surfaces of the door, frame and latch guard are flush. The recessed surface of the frame behind the latch guard is further reinforced by employing a thicker wall than is used in the rest of the frame, and by welding a square metal tube into the recessed region. A medial metal support is also welded into the lock box cavity in order to prevent the lock box from collapsing under stress. The resulting door lock and frame system is less penetrable than prior systems, and provides greater security because the latch guard is less vulnerable to prying and because the frame and lock box are reinforced, thus less likely to collapse under stress.

  • Patent number: 5265920
Abstract: In the case of a drive rod lock, the drive is guided in the region of the faceplate and in that a housing is mounted on the faceplate. Rotatably mounted in the housing is a handle bush and follower for moving the drive rod. This handle bush and follower assembly is pretensioned into a mid-way position and can be pivoted out of this mid-way position in opposite directions of rotation. The handle bush and follower assembly acts on a control element which is guided parallel with the drive rod and in the vicinity of a narrow side of the housing remote from the drive rod. A handle bush and follower restoring spring engages this control element. A two-armed transmission lever extends from the control element to the drive rod and is mounted in the housing between the control element and the drive rod. A clearance exists between the transmission lever and the control element.

  • Patent number: 5044184
Abstract: The profiled cylinder (38) seated in an insertion opening (87) of the lock housing (7) is guided by a retaining bracket (93) and fixed centrally by a detent pin (121) on the retaining bracket (93). The detent pin (121) is guided displaceably on a slide piece (103) and initially stressed by a spring (131) towards the profiled cylinder (38). The profiled cylinder (38) contains a reading device for en electronic key, which device is connected through a plug-in connection (89) with an electronic circuit of the lock. The plug-in connection (89) and the detent pin (121) are so adapted to one another that the detent pin (121) firstly fixes the profiled cylinder (38) on the pedestal (93) before the slide piece (103) guided in centered manner in relation to the pedestal (93) closes the plug-in connection (89). In this way defects of alignment of the plug-in connection (89) and damage to its contact elements (107, 109 ) are avoided.
