Exterior Manipulator Declutched From Bolt When Dogged Patents (Class 70/472)
  • Patent number: 5896764
Abstract: A lock which can be accommodated within the thickness of an opening panel includes two nuts rotatable about a common axis and attached to respective corresponding operating members. Each nut can turn freely about its axis relative to the other nut. The latch bolt is attached to a selector member mobile between two predetermined positions in the transverse direction corresponding to the thickness of the casing of the lock. Each nut is attached to a corresponding arrangement of the lock adapted to engage with the selection member when the latter is in its position near the nut, in order to actuate the latch bolt when the nut is turned in a first direction corresponding to retraction of the latch bolt and to remain disengaged from the selector member when the latter is in its other position near the other nut.

Abstract: A door lock device has an inside handle assembly and an outside handle assembly. A latch is positioned between the two handle assemblies and there is a spindle which is in rotatable engagement with both handle assemblies and in operable engagement with the latch such that rotation of either handle assembly moves the latch between extended and retracted positions. The inside handle assembly includes an axially movable locking element. A turn bar extends within the spindle and is connected to the locking element. Axial movement of the locking element causes rotation of the turn bar with rotation of the turn bar releasing the spindle from engagement with the outside handle assembly whereby rotation of the outside handle assembly will not rotate the spindle nor move the latch between extended and retracted positions.

The rotary paddle latch assembly includes a pivotally mounted latch bar pivotally actuated by the external rotary paddle, a spring biased, pivotally mounted tripping pawl selectively pivotally actuated by the latch bar or by the optional internal handle, a pivotally mounted stepped cam having an abutment surface engaged by said tripping pawl, and a spring biased, pivotally mounted latch plate having a throat therein for receiving a striker bar. The latch plate includes a cam follower riding along the stepped cam when the tripping pawl is moved to allow pivotal movement of the latch plate between the three latch positions.

  • Patent number: 4672829
Abstract: The doorlatch may have an exterior free knob rotation which is in the knob collar and is tied through cam means for non-engagement or engagement to drive the latch bolt. If the doorlatch has an exterior key operated lock, the cam means may be shifted by that lock for driving the latch. The cam means may also be shifted by an interior control, such as a turn button of an interior knob. Various combinations of exterior knobs with or without key locks and interior knobs may be provided, including the freely rotatable mechanism as desired. The front end loading may include a cylinder with plug assembly for the doorlatch which may have the plug rotated 180 degrees out of phase with the cylinder, the assembly then inserted and the plug rotated back to normal. A flange is provided beyond the lock cylinder on the plug which engages behind an inward depression for controlling the proper rotation during and after assembly.

Abstract: A door lock in which the lock bolt is not retracted by direct action of the handles but is instead retracted by slide members acted upon by the handles, the slide members having means for engaging a further slide which carries the bolt. One of the engagement means includes an electromagnet and an engagement member. The engagement member engages the bolt carrying slide only when the electromagnet is energized, which occurs when an appropriate key has been inserted into the lock and verified.

  • Patent number: 4648639
Abstract: A security lock comprising a latch positioned at the edge of a door which is actuated to selectively lock or unlock the door. The security lock includes an optional key-actuated dead bolt which can provide additional security when needed. A mechanism for locking or unlocking the latch comprises a hand-actuated knob positioned on the inside of the door so that when the dead bolt is not in use, the latch mechanism may still be locked or unlocked simply by rotating the knob between two positions. The mechanism for locking the latch is disengaged when the latch is in the locked position. If the latch is in the locked position when the door is opened, when the door is closed the latch is automatically unlocked to prevent a person from accidentally being locked out.

  • Patent number: 4429556
Abstract: There is disclosed a knob control arrangement or system whereby the status of a knob associated with a lock mechanism can be controlled from exteriorly of the lock housing and can be selectively rendered active-operable or passive-inoperable. In this regard, when in the passive-inoperable condition, the knob will merely rotate relative to the housing without imparting force or stress to the lock components. This mode of operation is achieved by providing a knob hub rotatably mounted to the lock housing to which a knob member may be affixed. Interiorly of the housing, the knob hub will move relative to a main cam member used to effect operation of the lock mechanism. The knob control arrangement includes means for selectively interconnecting and disconnecting the knob hub and the main cam member, such that when connected, an active-operable condition is attained, and when disconnected, the passive-inoperable mode is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4384465
Abstract: The invention relates to a lock mechanism for doors, preferably for use with dwellings, apartments or offices, the locking mechanism providing in particular a measure of safety against unauthorized opening of the lock. The lock mechanism is of a type which at will may be alternatively actuated from the inside either by a key or a thumb turn. When the resident of the house leaves he may in a simple manner suspend the function of the thumb turn. The lock is on its inside equipped both with a key hole hand and a thumb turn. The thumb turn may be engaged or disengaged with a dead bolt by means of a screw means. The screw means is actuated from the front of the lock, actuating an arm which actuates a transmission element bringing the transmission means of the thumb turn into, respectively out of engagement with the transmission means on the follower so that the lock at the operators will either will be actuated by a key or a thumb turn.

Abstract: A door lock has a flush-mountable body. A forwardly facing recess is defined by the body. A paddle-type handle is pivotally carried by the body and is movable between a nested position within the body recess and an operating position. A spring-projected slide bolt is carried on the back of the body and is movable between projected and retracted positions. A key-controlled disconnect linkage is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting the handle and the bolt. The disconnect linkage includes a disconnect member which extends longitudinally along one side of the bolt and which has an end region that is shifted from side to side between connecting and disconnecting positions by a key-operated locking member. When the disconnect linkage drivingly connects the handle and the bolt, movement of the handle from its nested position to an operating position will cause corresponding retracting movement of the bolt.

Abstract: One part of a key-in-knob lock set functions in a normal manner such that when the lock set is unlocked, either the outside or inside knob can be manipulated to open the door by withdrawing the latch bolt from a normal spring latch extended position. When, instead, the lock set is locked, the latch bolt is extended an exceptionally long distance into the frame to a dead bolt position. Extension and retraction of the latch bolt to and from dead bolt position is accomplished by manipulation of a main cam through the agency of a key in the outside or a turn button on the inside. For withdrawing the latch bolt from the normal spring latch extended position, an escutcheon housing for the outside knob or a corresponding escutcheon housing for the inside knob serves, by moving transversely of the axis of rotation of the knob, to rotate a radially extending tooth-like element on the spindle which, acting through the main cam, withdraws the latch bolt.
