  • Publication number: 20150106365
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating recommendations based on data derived from a social network are described. For example, a first indirect connection of a source member profile may be identified. The first indirect connection is a member profile connected to the source member through a first connection path. A second indirect connection of the source member profile is also identified. The second indirect connection is a member profile connected to the source member through a second connection path. A selection is made between the first indirect connection and the second indirect connection based on a comparison of timing scores calculated for the indirect connections. The selected indirect connection is then surfaced to a client device associated with the source member profile.

  • Patent number: 9009130
Abstract: An affinity server estimates an affinity between two different time based media events (e.g., TV, radio, social media content stream), between a time based media event and a specific topic, or between two different topics, where the affinity score represents an intersection between the populations of social media users who have authored social media content items regarding the two different events and/or topics. The affinity score represents an estimation of the real world affinity between the real world population of people who have an interest in both time based media events, both topics, or in a time based media event and a topic. One possible threshold for including a social media user in a population may be based on a confidence score that indicates the confidence that one or more social media content items authored by the social media user are relevant to the topic or event in question.

Abstract: A method for searching Web pages that begins with the identification of query criteria entered into a search provider. A set of Web pages that satisfies the query criteria are determined. Then, a page ranking is ascertained for each Web page in the set. The Web pages are presented in order by page ranking. The page ranking is based upon at least one relevancy factor that includes a browsing-time factor. The browsing-time factor can be calculated from browsing behavior exhibited by users, who provided similar query criteria. The set of users from which the browsing-time factor is calculated can include a current user, a set of users sharing characteristics with the current user, and/or a general set of users. Browsing behavior can include time spent at a Web page, where the browsed Web page is a page that was previously presented as a search result for the similar query criteria.

  • Patent number: 8886641
Abstract: In one embodiment, access a set of recency ranking data comprising one or more recency search queries and one or more recency search results, each of the recency search queries being recency-sensitive with respect to a particular time period and being associated with a query timestamp representing the time at which the recency search query is received at a search engine, each of the recency search results being generated by the search engine for one of the recency search queries and comprising one or more recency network resources. Construct a plurality of recency features from the set of recency ranking data. Train a first ranking model via machine learning using at least the recency features.

  • Patent number: 8886689
Abstract: Data series are stored at multiple resolutions in a computer-readable data storage medium. In particular, time series data values of the data series are received with associated timestamps. Corresponding storage elements in the computer-readable data storage medium are identified based on the time stamps. Aggregate values are determined by summing the time series data values. The time series data values stored in the corresponding storage elements are replaced by the aggregate values. Combined data values of the aggregate values are stored in storage elements in the computer-readable storage medium at a first resolution and second resolution, where the second resolution is half of the first resolution.

  • Patent number: 8880568
Abstract: Systems, devices, features, and methods for updating a geographic database, such as a navigation-related database, and/or reporting discrepancies associated with geographic data of the geographic database are disclosed. For example, one method comprises capturing a photograph of an observed geographic feature in a geographic region. Comment information corresponding to the observed geographic feature may be stored. The comment information is indicative of a discrepancy between the observed geographic feature and the geographic data corresponding to the geographic region. The comment information may be associated with the photograph to generate a report, and the report is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 8880496
Abstract: A search engine may allow a user to add and modify geographic constraints interactively through the use of a map. In one example, the user enters a search query, and the search engine determines whether the query is amenable to a geographic constraint. If the query is amenable to a geographic constraint, then the search engine may provide an interactive map through which the user may specify a geographic boundary. The search engine may then uses the geographic boundary as a constraint on the search, and may return documents that relate to the geographic area indicated by the boundary. The user may zoom in or out on the region defined by the boundary, or may move the boundary, thereby interactively focusing, de-focusing, and modifying the search based on geography.

Abstract: A universal video-related lookup system and method receives a request for information associated with specific video content from a requesting device. The system and method identify a first video content identifier associated with the specific video content and retrieves first metadata associated with the specific video content based on the first video content identifier. Next, the system and method translate the first video content identifier into a second video content identifier associated with the specific video content and retrieves second metadata based on the second video content identifier. The first metadata and the second metadata are then provided to the requesting device.

Abstract: System and method for recommending to a member of a social network an interaction with ones of a plurality of entities. Events related to individual ones of the plurality of entities are obtained. A relevance of ones of the events to the member is determined based on at least one characteristic of ones of the events and a trait of the member. Recommended interactions with ones of the plurality of entities individually related to the ones of the events based on the relevance for each of the events are presented to the user.

Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for training a classification model to predict categories. In one implementation, a method identifies category mappings generated for dominant queries associated with a query log. The method identifies mappings between a first set of queries and categories shown for the first set of queries, and identifies mappings between a second set of queries and clicked products for the second set of queries. A classification model is trained based on the mappings generated for dominant queries, the mappings between queries and the shown categories, and the mappings between queries and the clicked products.

Abstract: An electronic device with one or more processors, memory, and a display detects a first trigger event and, in response to detecting the first trigger event, collects a audio sample of environmental audio data associated with a media item. The device transmits information corresponding to the audio sample to a server. In response to transmitting the information, the device obtains attribute information corresponding to the audio sample, where the attribute information includes metadata for the media item, a time indicator of a position of the audio sample in the media item, and stream information for the media item. The device displays a portion of the attribute information. The device detects a second trigger event and, in response to detecting the second trigger event: determines a last obtained time indicator; streams the media item based on the stream information; and presents the media item from the last obtained time indicator.
