Abstract: Techniques for repetition detection in media data are provided. Media features of many different types may be extracted from the media data. Query sequences of fingerprints may be selected time intervals that begin at query times. Matched sequences of fingerprints may be determined. A set of offset values may be determined based on the matched sequences of fingerprints. This set of offset values may be further refined into a set of significant time points using a relatively targeted search and comparison method based on the media features of a second type extracted from the media data.

Abstract: A system records browsing activity of a user using a browser. The system determines browsing statistics from the recorded browsing activity and graphically displays the browsing statistics to the user via the browser.

Abstract: A system graphically plots articles. The system executes one or more search queries to search stored articles and receives results of the executed one or more search queries, where the results identify selected articles of the stored articles. The system further designates a graphical marker for each of the selected articles and plots each of the graphical markers on a graphical display.

Abstract: Where multiple client devices are synchronized to multiple, asynchronous instances of a time-based media presentation such as live and time-shifted views of a television broadcast, interactive content can be delivered to each one of the various devices at a particular time (or “time offset”) within the presentation independent of when each instance of the time-based media presentation is viewed.

Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for constructing a temporal visualization of query results. That is, query results associated with temporal information, such as timestamps, may be used to create a temporal distribution (e.g., query results comprising images and image capture dates, web pages and web page creation dates, etc.). The temporal distribution may comprise a distribution of the query results over time (e.g., query results may be sorted and/or grouped based upon dates specified by the timestamps). A temporal visualization of the query results may be constructed using the temporal distribution. For example, query results may be assigned to date slots within the temporal visualization. The temporal visualization may illustrate a substantial number of query results (e.g., thousands) that may otherwise not be visually presentable at once. Zoom commands and/or hover commands may be processed to provide finer and/or coarser granularity of the query results.

Abstract: A data management and archive method and apparatus, for implementation in an automated system to monitor and manage status, performance and configuration data for networked storage components. Analysis and cross-correlation of data related to the storage components can be done individually, collectively and/or comparatively. A collection manager component of a workload analyzer is implemented to start and stop data collection. The collection manager includes a command and control module that coordinates requests of data from at least one collection agent configured on at least one host connected to the storage component(s). The collection manager manages collection of data and effects file transfer of collected data according to a user specified policy, and maintains status of the data collected. The user specified policy allows the user to specify data collection “shifts” (i.e. periodicity).

Abstract: A documents database has a plurality of documents, including but not limited to text files, video clips and sound files. Each document is associated with at least one category of a plurality of categories in a categories database, and each category has at least one keyword. A search request having at least one search term is received from a user, and a categories database is searched for categories having a keyword corresponding to the user search term to identify first level categories. The other keywords from the identified first level categories are retrieved and the documents database is searched for documents having a user search term or a retrieved keyword. The identified documents are then ranked and presented to the user. Other search expansion techniques, and display techniques, are also discussed.

Abstract: Method and system for merging two objects in a business intelligence system. A first member is selected in the business intelligence system, the business intelligence system includes a user space, a content space, a data space, a master-data space and a metadata space. A relationship between the first member and a plurality of members selected from the group consisting of the user space, the content space, the data space, the master-data space, the metadata space is determined, which results in determined relationships for every member in the business intelligence system. Two members in the content space are then selected. Relationships between the two members in the plurality of determined relationships are traversed to determine the members in the traversed relationships. A preference is assigned to the members in the traversed relationships with close or exact relationships; and the members with the preference are merged.

Abstract: An MMR system includes an analytics module for monitoring and analyzing the creation and usage of visual content search. The analytics module is part of a MMR gateway and provides a mechanism for administrators to determine the usage patterns and other information about users of the MMR system. This information is fed back to other components of the MMR system to improve its operation. The analytics module comprises a monitoring module, a usage database, an access analysis module and a presentation module. The monitoring module is coupled to other components of the MMR gateway and collects information about retrieval request, image queries, context information and recognition results. The usage database stores the information collected by the monitoring module. The access analysis module performs queries on the usage database and analyzes the results. The output of the access analysis module is provided to the presentation module for presentation or output to other systems and users.

Abstract: The techniques describe recommending mobile query suggestions by integrating time and location in response to a query input submitted on a mobile computing device. A process constructs a bipartite graph by extracting users that submitted queries from mobile search logs and associating time and location with the submitted queries. The process determines the users are similar having submitted similar queries at similar times and at similar locations. The process receives a query input associated with a current time and a current location of a mobile computing device. Next, the process computes a relatedness of candidate queries to the query input based on a similarity between the user groups having submitted both the candidate queries and the query input, and distances of times and locations at which the user previously issued the query input and the candidate queries.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided for ranking files from an Internet search. In one embodiment, the method comprises assigning a score to each file based on at least one of the following factors: recency, editorial popularity, clickthru popularity, favorites metadata, or favorites collaborative filtering. The file may be organized based on the assigned scores to provide users with more accurate search results.

Abstract: A user is made able to configure a search query to be responsive to temporal factors in order to adjust the search query to more accurately reflect the user's true information need. By adjusting the search query in this way, the user is more likely to receive satisfactory search results.

Abstract: A system, and computer program product for activity based dynamic data prioritization are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A user activity corresponding to a user is selected. A query is constructed corresponding to the user activity. The query is executed on a data source to obtain a result set of data. A prioritization rule is constructed using a feature of the query and a policy. Data items in the result set of data are prioritized according to the prioritization rule to form prioritized data. The prioritized data is presented relative to the user activity.

Abstract: A method for activity based dynamic data prioritization is provided in the illustrative embodiments. A user activity corresponding to a user is selected. A query is constructed corresponding to the user activity. The query is executed on a data source to obtain a result set of data. A prioritization rule is constructed using a feature of the query and a policy. Data items in the result set of data are prioritized according to the prioritization rule to form prioritized data. The prioritized data is presented relative to the user activity.

Abstract: As things happen on a volume, the file system forwards events to an event list manager. The event list manager stores the events and associates them with epochs that were active at the time the event occurred. Event consumers can independently declare epochs at any time. When event consumers end an epoch, they can request events that occurred during the epoch, which are reported to the event consumer using the event list manager.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for identifying one or more second documents related to one or more first documents. Strength of relationship scores between candidate documents in a group of candidate documents and each first document are determined by aggregating user selection data for users, the user selection data indicating, for each user, whether the user viewed the candidate document during a window of time after the first document is presented to the user on a search results web page in response to a query. An aggregate strength of relationship score is calculated for each candidate document from the strength of relationship scores for the candidate document. Second documents are selected from the candidate documents according to the aggregate strength of relationship scores for the candidate documents.

Abstract: An electronic document sorter is trained to classify documents based on their temporal qualities. The invention can be used in environments such as automated news aggregators, search engines and other electronic systems which compile information having temporal qualities.

Abstract: A “Real-Time-Ready Analyzer” combines a data stream management system (DSMS) with a map-reduce (M-R) framework to construct a streaming map-reduce framework that is suitable for real-time Behavioral Targeting (BT) (or other temporal queries). The Real-Time-Ready Analyzer allows users to write “dual-intent” temporal analysis queries for BT. These queries are succinct and easy to express, scale well on large-scale offline data, and can also work over real-time data. Further, the Real-Time-Ready Analyzer uses the aforementioned streaming map-reduce framework to provide dual-intent algorithms for end-to-end BT phases. Experiments using real data from an advertisement system show that the Real-Time-Ready Analyzer is very efficient and incurs orders-of-magnitude lower development effort than conventional systems.

An authentication client includes at least one biometric information input sensor and a feature extraction function. A database includes an enrollee ID and registered templates of biometric information of at least one kind every enrollee and includes a score table. An authentication server includes a prior probability setting function, a 1:N fast matching function for successively matching the feature with the registered templates of the enrollees and discontinuing matching processing when the number of times of matching has exceeded a predetermined threshold, a delta score calculation function for calculating a delta score by using a score obtained by the 1:N fast matching and using the score table, a posterior probability calculation function for calculating posterior probabilities respectively of the enrollees on the basis of the score and the delta score, and an authentication object user identification function.

Abstract: A system and method for searching for media content. A user profile is received from a user. The user profile identifies preferred media sources. A search request is received from the user including at least one search criteria. The search for media content is based on the at least one search criteria and the user profile. Information regarding the media content found from the search is displayed to the user.

Abstract: In one embodiment, on a first date, a computer system receives a watch list term that is specified by a user. The computer system receives an electronic version of a paper on a second date after the first date, and the computer system searches the electronic version for the watch list term, without the user specifying the watch list term after the first date, and without the user initiating the searching after the first date. The computer system outputs a result of the searching for display on a display device.

Abstract: System and methods are provided, which include a presentation device that presents one or more data streams of information to one or more users. Each of the data streams has one or more samples that are arranged a temporal order. A relevancy display has two or more relevance indications, and each of the relevance indications is uniquely associated with one of the samples. The relevance indications are ordered on the relevancy display in the temporal order that corresponds to the order of the samples in the data stream.

Abstract: Systems and methods sort location dependent information based on selecting multiple groups of information according to location, ordering the groups based on location, and ordering the information within the groups based on at least one or more other criteria. The size(s) of the areas used to select the groups may be predetermined, or dynamically determined (e.g., based on clustering of information along distance to a location of interest).

Abstract: An approach is provided for condition monitoring from log messages and sensor trends based on time semi-intervals. The approach may be applied to machine condition monitoring. Patterns are mined from symbolic interval data that extends previous approaches by allowing semi-intervals and partially ordered patterns. The semi-interval patterns and semi-interval partial order patterns are less restrictive than patterns using Allen's relations. Combinations and adaptations of efficient algorithms from sequential pattern and itemset mining for discovery of semi-interval patterns are described.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products are herein defined for identifying users of personal computers within a network for the purposes associating the personal computers with custodians in an electronic discovery system. Embodiments provide for a tool that accesses the personal computers via the network, locates and queries the profile list on each personal computer for user-identifying data, including network user identification, transmits, for each personal computer, computer-identifying data associated with the personal computer and user-identifying data associated with a user of the personal computer, determines matches between the network user identifications and custodian entries in a custodian directory; and, in response to determining the matches, links the computer-identifying data of the personal computer associated with the matched network user identification to the matched custodian entry in the custodian directory.

Recommending print locations can also include indexing the recommendation, user, and geographic information for each of the first MPL and the second MPL as an automatically created uniform resource indicator (URI) on an MPL system. Furthermore, recommending print locations can include ranking the first MPL and the second MPL based on the recommendation, user, and geographic information and presenting a list, via a user interface, of the ranked first MPL and the second MPL.

Abstract: A method for providing a purchase history context search includes receiving at least one search term from a user through an input device. A purchase history for the user is then accessed from at least one purchase history database over a network. A web index that is located on at least one storage device is then accessed. A plurality of search results, each associated with a web page indexed by the web index, are then determined using the at least one search term and the purchase history, each search result including a link to an associated web page. The plurality of search results are then provided for display on a display device.

Abstract: Standard word lists that are often used for such operations as predictive text, spell checking, and word completion are based on general linguistic data that might not accurately reflect actual text usage patterns of particular users. Systems and methods of building and using a custom word list for use in text operations on an electronic device are provided. A collection of text items associated with a user of the electronic device is scanned to identify words in the text items. A weighting is then assigned to each identified word, and the words and corresponding weightings are stored.

Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus, including computer program products are described for ranking content items identified by a search engine and delivering corresponding search results. In one aspect, search engine user language preference data is stored in association with user content item selection records. Analysis of the records is performed to identify content items that appeal to users having common language preferences. Query results can be ranked based on the language preference of the current user and/or the user's query and data derived from the selection records.

Abstract: Methods and systems for using a half-life formula for deriving demand metrics used in ordering item listings, when presenting those item listings in a search results page, are described. In some embodiments, a demand metric for an item listing is derived by monitoring events associated with item listings, such as, keeping a count of the number of search impressions an item listing receives. A half-life formula is used to ensure that events occurring earlier in time contribute less to the demand metric than more recently occurring events. The demand metric are used to order the item listings, when the item listings are being presented in a search results page.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system of building a user reputation database for use in a user location data system. The method and system receive user location information containing personally identifiable data of a user and user position data. The user position data may or may not represent one or more actual geographic positions of the user. The user location information is temporarily stored and analyzed to provide a spam score associated with the user position data indicative of whether the user position data represents the actual geographic positions of the user. Data indicative of the spam score is also provided to user reputation database to store a user reputation score associated with the user.

In one aspect, a method includes determining a first relevance of a first corpus to a search query, determining a second relevance of a second corpus to the search query, determining a measure of relative relevance of the first corpus and the second corpus to the search query, and providing the measure of relative relevance to a ranking engine for ranking of search results for a new search corresponding to the search query.

Abstract: A method for providing proximate dataset recommendations can begin with the creation of metadata records corresponding to datasets that represent scientific data by a scientific dataset search tool. The metadata records can conform to a standardized structural definition, and may be hierarchical. Values for the data elements of the metadata records can be contained within the datasets. Metadata records with a value that is proximate to a user-entered search parameter can be identified. A proximity score can be calculated for each identified metadata record. The proximity score can express a relevance of the corresponding dataset to the user-entered search parameters. The identified metadata records can be arranged in descending order by the calculated proximity rating, creating a list of proximate dataset results. The proximate dataset results can be presented within a user interface.

Abstract: A map-based search application for map-based category navigation includes geographic data, category data, and categorized data comprising at least one item, wherein each item is associated with each of the geographic data and the category data. Accordingly, a user is enabled to search for categorized data that satisfies at least one condition related to the geographic data and at least one condition related to the category data. Abstract: Generating ranked search results includes receiving a plurality of matching information items that match a search request, ranking at least some of the plurality of matching information items using a linear ranking model that linearly combines a first plurality of feature values to obtain a first set of ranked results, ranking at least some of the first set of ranked results using a nonlinear ranking model that nonlinearly combines a second plurality of feature values to obtain a second set of ranked results, and provide a search response based on the second set of ranked results.

Posterior probabilities of the enrolled users un and non-enrolled user u0 are calculated, using the likelihood ratios, and the prior probabilities of both the enrolled users un and the non-enrolled user u0. Then, determination is made by comparing each posterior probability with a first threshold.

A chunk of the identifiers and a set of meta information are loaded into a first cache and a second cache, respectively. A portion of the set of meta information is being viewed by a user. The portion describes a data item identified by an identifier included in the chunk and in a sub-chunk of identifiers that identifies data items described by the set of meta information. If a position of the identifier in the sub-chunk satisfies a first criterion, then a second set of meta information is preloaded into the second cache. If a position of the identifier in the chunk satisfies a second criterion, then a second chunk of the identifiers is preloaded into the first cache.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying publication information for search results. User input is received to perform a search of a communications network. Search results are generated in response to the user input. A content date is determined for content included in each of the search results. The program causes the computer to perform an acquisition step of acquiring a search word of a text search done at a search site; a monitoring step of monitoring whether or not a search frequency of the search word acquired in the acquisition step satisfies a predetermined criterion; a determination step of determining whether or not at least a portion of the search word matches a character recognition processing result of the multimedia data when the search frequency of the search word is determined to satisfy the predetermined criterion in the monitoring step; and a registration step of registering the search word as meta-information of the multimedia data when, as a determination result of the determination step, the search word matches the character recognition processing result.

The system and method include receiving a jump destination distribution ratio representing a ratio of jumping to each of a plurality of sites storing same contents, which varies over time, and contents including a hyperlink to which the jump destination distribution ratio is correlated, judging whether a time period elapsing from a time the contents are received until a time the hyperlink included in the contents is selected is equal to or longer than a predetermined time period, and acquiring a jump destination distribution ratio effective at a point in time at which the hyperlink is selected from the server responsive to determining that the time period elapsed is equal to or longer than the predetermined time period.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and program for processing temporal data. A spatial query is received specifying a mapping function that identifies a set of temporal values for one or more objects. Geographic positions are automatically extracted from each set of temporal values for each of the one or more objects. Point objects are generated from the geographic positions. One or more spatial objects are generated from the point objects.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining search results. The method may include receiving an at least partial search term, and identifying keywords based on the at least partial search term, wherein each keyword has an associated keyword measure based on the number of times each keyword has been previously searched for within a predetermined time period. For each keyword search results associated with the keyword may be identified, wherein each result has an associated search measure. A relevance measure may be determined for each result using the keyword measure the search measure, and used to provide at least one of the results as a search result for the at least partial search term.

Abstract: A method for content insertion is provided. In this method, a first media data is received from a server and a placement request is transmitted to a content provider service. As a result, a placement response is received from the content provider service. The placement response includes data identifying a second media data associated with the first media data. The second media data is retrieved and merged with the first media data. After the merge, the first and second media data are transmitted to the server.
