Abstract: A thin-client user interface includes a user interface and an application server. The user interface is executed on a client device, such as a personal computer having a display. The user interface includes a client application for displaying data. The application server is coupled with the user interface and with a remote database via an electronic data network and is configured to receive a request for data from the user interface, to generate a query request based on the request for data, to access the database and submit the query request to the database, to receive results from the database in response to the query request, and transmit a portion of the results to the user interface.

Abstract: Information regarding a mobile user's context including but not limited to current mobile activity, social relations and associations history, and past mobile, search and browsing history is identified and converted to metadata. Metadata is also applied to content sources delivering content to a search engine or personalized content engine. The metadata is used in part to determine the relative display of content objects delivered to the mobile user as search results or a personalized aggregated information resource, e.g., home page. The user may select information, from one or more entities or search results or as presented to the user in other contexts, to be automatically delivered to the user's home page as a content feed including multiple content objects or content feeds associated with an entity. Information regarding mobile user activity is compiled and used to permit publishers and advertisers to identify target candidates to receive advertisements or marketing materials.

Abstract: A database management protocol exchanges update tokens between a client and a server on which the database resides. When a client requests data to be read from a database, an update manager either reads an update token stored therein or generates one dynamically. The update token represents a current state of the data object being read. Sometime thereafter, if the client requests new data to be stored in the object, the client may furnish the update token back to the update manager. The update manager compares the client's update token to a local update token representing a current state of the database and, if they match, determines that the state has not changed. If they do not match, an error results.

Abstract: A method and a device transport a postal object to an incompletely specified destination address. The object has at least one information item relating to a destination address to which the object is to be transported. A set of address components is predetermined. An address database is used which in each case contains a computer-available record per destination address for a set of possible destination addresses. Each record contains in each case one entry for each predetermined address component. At least one destination address information item on the object is detected. A screen form is used which contains in each case one input field for each address component. The detected destination address information is compared with the records of the address database. When exactly one record is consistent with all detected destination address information items, a transportation of the object to the destination address of the record is triggered.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for determining a partial class membership of a data record in a class. The apparatus includes a record set acquisition module that receives a set of reference records having the same independent variables and belonging to a known class within a group of classes. An unknown-class record receiving module receives an unknown-class record having same independent variables as reference records. A class identification module creates a class vector for each reference record identifying whether the record is in a class. A weighting module calculates a set of unknown-class record weights for the unknown-class record. A classification module determines a partial class membership for the unknown-class record for each class in the group of classes using the set of unknown-class record weights. Each partial class membership identifies a probability that the unknown-class record belongs to a corresponding class in the group of classes.

Abstract: A method for introducing instructions/commands within or acting on the content material of a mail run data file. The method comprises the steps producing an object-oriented data file of the mailpiece content material and displaying a visual image thereof to the user. The visual image displayed spatially corresponds to the object oriented data file. Through the use of a graphical user input device, such as a point-and-click input device, the user defines a region of the visual image. Further, the user creates or selects a rule or expression indicative of a desired instruction/command in connection with the defined region. The rule or expression is represented in computer program code and operates a signal processor to perform the selected instructions/commands.

Abstract: Software for managing relationships between heterogeneous objects is operable to identify a target object. The software automatically determines related objects using at least one object type application programming interface (API) for an object type associated with the target object. Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating collation keys that can be used by sorting methods so as to arrange a sequence of data objects in order of their semantic relevance to the user or their relevance to an operating context. In order to achieve this object, processing means specifies a portion sandwiched by an object start identifier and an object end identifier from display control information and extracts a Web page identifier of a linked Web page from the specified portion based on an extracted portion identifier (S25). The processing means extracts a portion as an object that is sandwiched by an object start identifier and an object end identifier and that satisfies a search condition accepted from input means from display control information of the Web page corresponding to the extracted Web page identifier and stores the portion in storage means (S35).

Abstract: Re-executing query objects without affecting transaction data in an application development framework (ADF) not providing for creation of multiple instances of the same query object. In an embodiment, a query associated with a query object is executed to retrieve a transaction data from a data store, which can be further modified based on user interactions. In response to an indication that the query object is to be re-executed for retrieving the transaction data, a new query object is created using the query (along with any required parameters) retrieved from the original query object. The new query object is executed to retrieve a copy of the transaction data from the data store. According to another aspect, a comparison result is generated for the modified transaction data and the copy.

The method takes advantage of information retrieval techniques. The method generates the search query to use to find documents by reference to the text of the document in the Web site being accessed by the user. The method further uses a weighting function to weigh the terms used in the search query.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions are provided for implementing container managed uses, ownerships, and references in an enterprise JavaBean™ environment. A user may specify a uses, ownership, reference relationships between entity beans and sessions in a deployment descriptor file. When the file is processed, the present embodiment generates methods on the entity beans and allows the container to recognize the relationships, such that the user may access the session beans based on the specified relationships.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for supporting concurrent updates to a shared data element group while preserving group integrity on behalf of one or more readers that are concurrently referencing group data elements without using locks or atomic instructions. Two or more updaters may be invoked to generate new group data elements. Each new data element created by the same updater is assigned a new generation number that is different than a global generation number associated with the data element group and which allows a reader of the data element group to determine whether the new data element is a correct version for the reader. The new generation numbers are different for each updater and assigned according to an order in which the updaters respectively begin update operations.

Abstract: A database management system and a method of managing a database storing a plurality of entities related to each other by a plurality of relations. The database management system includes a user interface for interfacing with the database in a current situation. The system also includes a context modeler for modeling a context representation and a server for storing a situation in which the user has been involved as at least one frame. The at least one frame describes at least one object and action involved in the situation in which the user has been involved and their relationship to each other. A context using the at least one frame is modeled by the context modeler so that when the context representation is applied to the database, operation of the database is adapted according to the situation.

Abstract: In the described embodiments, a computer constructs a dispatch data structure for a holder by first determining a set of member holders from which the holder inherits. The computer then constructs an “i-table” that includes holder addressor regions that each contains addressors for an associated set of members. Each of the holder addressor regions is associated with an i-table index. The computer next collects a set of identification numbers for the set of member holders and, from these, constructs an “m-table.” The size of the m-table is selected to perfectly hash the set of identification numbers by the m-table size. The computer then computes an m-table index for each of the set of identification numbers modulo the m-table size and uses the m-table index to populate the m-table. The computer next stores the i-table index in the m-table in accordance with the m-table index.

Abstract: A method and system thereof for identifying records are described. Records on a node are distinguished from other records on the node by assigning each record a unique local identifier. When a record is moved from one node to another node, a unique global identifier is assigned to the record. A translation technique is employed to map the local identifier to the global identifier (and vice versa).

Abstract: A quorum-based server power-down mechanism allows a manager in a computer cluster to power-down unresponsive servers in a manner that assures that an unresponsive server does not become responsive again. In order for a manager in a cluster to power down servers in the cluster, the cluster must have quorum, meaning that a majority of the computers in the cluster must be responsive. If the cluster has quorum, and if the manager server did not fail, the manager causes the failed server(s) to be powered down. If the manager server did fail, the new manager causes all unresponsive servers in the cluster to be powered down. If the power-down is successful, the resources on the failed server(s) may be failed over to other servers in the cluster that were not powered down. If the power-down is not successful, the cluster is disabled.

Abstract: A database management system has a plurality of database servers and data can be transferred between them by partitioning a data area into small areas and altering allocation of the small areas to the database servers. After altering the configuration, there occurs degradation in processing speed that accompanies re-creation of the index. If this problem is solved by using conventional techniques, noticeable degradation in processing speed will occur to a specific query at the time of a steady state operation. Accordingly, an index created for each of the small areas and an index to all of the small areas are allocated to the database server and used in combination.

Abstract: A method system for forecasting product demand using a causal methodology, based on multiple regression techniques. The methodology utilizes weather related data as a set of causal factors for retail demand forecasting. Abstract: In order to be able to handle very large numbers of tracks in a similarity determination in order to identify tracks similar to a predetermined track, a filtering method is used in order to identify a number of closest neighbour candidates between which the correct nearest neighbours are determined. Thus, the computationally heavy similarity determination is performed only on a subset of the tracks. This filtering step may be a fastmap determination of the tracks where the pivot points are determined not as the extreme points along the to individual dimension but at the median thereof in order to avoid extremely high divergence values. This helps preserving the neighbourhoods. Also, the mapping is performed on the basis of a square-rooted Symmetric Kullback-Leibler (SKL) divergence which is more metric than the SKL and thus provides a better mapping.

Abstract: A Business Process Management (BPM) system can allow for creating and executing business processes. The BPM system can produce historical activity data. The historical activity data can be sent to a database for storage from an in memory cache. The BPM system can include a BPM dashboard to display the historical activity data. The BPM dashboard can obtain the historical activity data from the in memory cache before it is sent to the database.

Abstract: Systems and methods taught herein provide an objective scoring mechanism based at least in part on a brand reputation of an organization owning a web page. In one aspect, brand reputation information is used to assign a score to a web page indicating the page's trustworthiness. Thus, rather than determining trustworthiness only from the intrinsic content of the web page, or from extrinsic relationships between web pages, a user may be provided with an indication of trustworthiness from at least one brand reputation metric of the organization that makes the web page available.

Abstract: A method, a system, and a computer program product for determining a total count of audience members within a sensory receiving environment during the presentation of a program. A voice recognition unit is enabled when a signal for a program/subject/event, such as a broadcast program, is received. The voice recognition unit receives one or more sounds in the sensory receiving environment and analyzes the characteristics of the sounds. When one or more unique human voices are identified during the program, a count of the number of unique human voices is determined. The count of unique human voices is transmitted to a server, whereby the count of unique human voices is equal to a count of audience members. The total count of audience members is calculated for all sensory receiving environment associated with the program. An audience analysis graphical user interface is generated to display the total count of audience members.

Abstract: A system for and method of distributing device information in an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is presented. The system and method may include storing at least one of public identification information and device identification information associated with an end-user device. The system and method may also include receiving, from an application system, a query for device information associated with the end-user device via a network. The system and method may further include retrieving, from a device database, the device information based on the query. The system and method may yet further include outputting, to the application system, the retrieved device information.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, are disclosed for track simplification and correction. In one aspect, a track data set having track points defining a course can be accessed and inaccurate track points and incorrect track points can be identified, wherein identifying inaccurate track points includes comparing, for one or more of the track points, a dilution of precision (DOP) value associated with the track point to a DOP threshold, and identifying incorrect track points includes performing an error correction process. Also, a corrected track can be generated by removing identified inaccurate track points and incorrect track points from the track data set. Further, identifying an inaccurate track point can include determining that the DOP value associated with the track point exceeds the DOP threshold. Additionally, the DOP threshold can be specified by user input.

Abstract: A method and system for automatically training a document imaging classification and extraction system that switches between a manual mode and an automatic mode based on constant monitoring. A specialized sub-system monitors and records a user interaction with the classification system during the initial manual mode and, in parallel, develops and tests a user configuration with respect to an automated processing engine. The system is capable of being shifted to the automatic mode if a desired acceptability threshold is attained and the document can then be processed automatically. Furthermore, a user can interact with the classification system if the automatic mode fails. Information concerning exception handling can be entered into a training database for continual refinement of the classification and extraction system.

Abstract: A surrogate systems management system with enables the creation of a potential full suite of systems management functionality via a proxy environment. The surrogate systems management system thus enables virtual creation of management abilities in a managed services environment without the need for creation of managed service specific agentry and consoles. Such a surrogate systems management system leverages onsite, within the firewall, services appliance to virtually host vendor provided management consoles and leverage the analytics intelligence of the services appliance to create correlating metadata tying the consoles to the respective vendor provided management mechanism (which may or may not include an agent).

Abstract: Media playlist techniques are described. In an implementation, a communication is formed, for transmission via a network to a media provider, to request data that describes media that is available for streaming from the media provider. The playlist is created based at least in part on media that is available locally on the computer and the data received from the media provider such that the playlist references one or more of the media that are available for streaming from the media provider.

Abstract: Systems, devices, features, and methods for constructing a graphic model of a geographic object, such as a road sign or features thereof, from an image, such as, for example, to develop a navigation database are disclosed. For example, one method comprises receiving a plurality of images of regions, such as of roads or paths. An image of the plurality of images is identified. A process to determine scale-invariant components of a geographic object in the identified image may be performed. Other processes, such as generating a dictionary to facilitate optical character recognition may be performed. A graphic model of the geographic object is generated based on the scale-invariant components and/or the optical character recognition. The generated graphic model may be associated with a navigation or map database.

Abstract: A change manager may receive a new event notification. Once a new event notification has been received by the change manager, change information may be received by the change manager. The change information may be associated with one or more data objects that have been changed during the processing of a new event. As each change is received by the change manager, the changes may be stored within a consolidated change buffer. After a new event has been completed, a consolidated change notification may be sent by the change manager to one or more consumers.

In a particular embodiment, a method is performed at a host device coupled to a non-volatile memory, where the host device includes a memory having a first file data structure. A first directory entry in a file directory of a file system is located where the first directory entry corresponds to a first file stored in the non-volatile memory. First data associated with the first directory entry, including first location data indicating a location of the first file in the non-volatile memory, is retrieved and stored in the first file data structure. A request to open the first file is received. In response, the first location data of the first file is retrieved from the first file data structure and data of the first file from the non-volatile memory is read. First metadata associated with the first file is extracted from the data read from the non-volatile memory.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for targeting specific users with specific requested actions to be performed by the user and verified by any methods on behalf of an advertiser within an Internet display advertising campaign. The system discloses techniques for receiving an advertiser's requested actions and corresponding definitions of what constitutes a satisfaction of the action. The disclosure also details techniques for determining if and when and to what degree a requested action has been completed or satisfied by the targeted user, and details corresponding techniques for compensating the user and any other real or virtual entity who had contributed to the satisfaction of the requested action. The system implements a network of sensors that can aid in the determination of if and when and to what degree a requested action has been completed or satisfied. Abstract: A search engine manages the indexing of web page contents and accepts user selection criteria to find and report hits that meet the search criteria. The inventive search engine has an associated crawler function wherein display images of the web pages are rendered and stored as snapshots, preferably when the pages are indexed. The search engine reports search results by composing an html page with links to the corresponding page hits and containing snapshot reduced size graphic images showing the web pages as they appeared when fetched and stored as snapshots.
