  • Patent number: 8335219
Abstract: Employing an asymmetric protocol, multiple sources reliably broadcast dynamically changing routing tables incrementally across multiple consumers from a single distributor. Each of multiple sources send current tables to the distributor using a snapshot mechanism. Message are buffered, segmented, paced by timers, and broadcast to the consumers repetitively at the distributor. Negative acknowledgments from the consumer request missing messages from the distributor after receipt of a keepalive message from the distributor. The distributor marks the missing messages and retransmits replacements from a history buffer only after firing of a resend timer. A unique Session ID included in all messages originating from each particular source facilitates reliable table distribution from multiple sources to multiple consumers via a single distributor.

  • Patent number: 8331233
Abstract: In a packet transfer network node, the receiving ratio of first packets transmitted from its adjacent node is calculated to represent a proportion of the number of the first packets received from each adjacent node to the total number of those packets received from all adjacent nodes. Based on the receiving ratio calculated for a combination of a source and a destination corresponding to the destination and source of the second packets, respectively, the transmitting ratio of second packets is calculated for each adjacent node to define a proportion in which the second packets transmitted from a source corresponding to the destination of the first packets and meant for a destination corresponding to the source of the first packets are to be transmitted to an adjacent communication node. Based upon the transmitting ratios thus calculated, an adjacent node is selected to which a second packet is to be transmitted.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a method performed in a media access control (MAC) forwarding control module within a network element for looking up a MAC address and interface (I/F) identifier pair (MAC-I/F pair) from a MAC forwarding data structure that comprises a first tier data structure and a plurality of second tier data structures. The MAC forwarding data structure utilizes compressed keys to index each of the plurality second tier data structures. The compressed key is generated with a desired MAC address and a mask bit list that corresponds with enough bit positions such that all MAC addresses in second tier data structure can be uniquely addressed with just the values of each MAC address in the bit positions listed. As such, the MAC forwarding data structure is constructed so that the total cost of a lookup with the compressed key technique is deterministic and, therefore, O(1).

  • Patent number: 8266318
Abstract: The invention is a system for distributing content data over a computer network and a method of arranging receiver nodes in a computer network such that the capacity of the server is effectively multiplied many times over, and may even be increased exponentially. The invention takes advantage of the excess capacity many receiver nodes possess, and uses them as repeaters. The distribution system includes nodes having databases which indicate their ancestors and descendants so that reconfiguration of the distribution network may be accomplished without burdening the system's primary sever. The invention includes a process for configuring a computer information distribution network having a primary server node and user nodes docked in a cascaded relationship, and reconfiguring the network in the event that a user node departs from it.

Abstract: A peering relationship among two or more network appliances is established through an exchange of control messages among the network appliances. The peering relationship defines a cluster of peered network appliances, and at each network appliance of the cluster traffic flow state information for all the network appliances of the cluster is maintained. Network traffic associated with traffic flows of the network appliances of the cluster is managed according to the state information for the traffic flows. This managing of the network traffic may include forwarding among the network appliances of the cluster (i.e., to those of the appliances handling the respective flows) at least some of the network traffic associated with one or more of the traffic flows according to the state information for the one or more traffic flows. The traffic flows may be TCP connections or UDP flows.
