  • Patent number: 8577997
Abstract: Network architecture supports hosting and content distribution on a global scale. The architecture allows a Content Provider to replicate and serve its most popular content at an unlimited number of points throughout the world. The inventive framework comprises a set of servers operating in a distributed manner. The actual content to be served is preferably supported on a set of hosting servers (sometimes referred to as ghost servers). This content comprises HTML page objects that, conventionally, are served from a Content Provider site. A base HTML document portion of a Web page is served from the Content Provider's site while one or more embedded objects for the page are served from the hosting servers, preferably, those hosting servers near the client machine. By serving the base HTML document from the Content Provider's site, the Content Provider maintains control over the content.

  • Patent number: 8543718
Abstract: A technique efficiently and dynamically maintains bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) on a bundle of links in a computer network. According to the novel technique, one or more “standby” BFD sessions may be established on one or more corresponding line cards (LCs), the LCs having one or more links of the bundle (bundle links). Once established, one of the standby BFD sessions may be selected as an “active” BFD session based on activity of one of the bundle links of the corresponding LC. Also, BFD messages may be transmitted from one of the bundle links of the active BFD session, e.g., the link receiving BFD messages. In response to inactivity of the transmitting link (e.g., failure, removal, etc.), the active BFD session may switch to another available active bundle link, and if no other active bundle links are available to the active BFD session, one of the standby BFD sessions is selected as the new active BFD session.

Abstract: A managed network provides unique network addresses that are assigned to nodes such that no two nodes will have the same address in the managed network and such that each node will always have the same network address regardless of changing its location or changing the network to which it is joined. The nodes, communicating together, comprise a mesh network. Remote management and control of the nodes is possible from the host server, which is located outside of the mesh network, even if a node is located behind a firewall or network address translator (NAT), because server management messages are encapsulated within headers so that a persistent connection between the node and the external host server is maintained once the node sends a message to the host.

  • Patent number: 8510473
Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for enabling a queue manager to handle messages written with a character set the queue manager is not configured to handle. In a messaging-middleware environment, queue managers receive messages from applications and communicate the messages to queues where they can be retrieved. Upon receiving a message written in a character set the queue manager is not configured to handle, the queue manager may activate a conversion utility that converts messages from the one character set into a character set the queue manager can handle. The converted message may be returned to the queue manager and stored in the queue to which the message was addressed.

  • Patent number: 8499340
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enabling secure communications between a UE (user equipment) device operating though a packet-switched network and a 3rd party service outside of the user's home domain. The packet-switched network may be, for example, configured according and IMS architecture and use SIP control signaling. An identity server in the user's home domain is coupled with a proxy server or gateway and receives control messages, on which the identity server effects identity translation if needed. Translating messages targeted for the third party serve includes stripping user identifying information and adding a domain identifier to the message. It may also include adding an identity token. Where an identity token is not added, it may be provided upon request to a 3rd party service entity. Translating messages targeted for the UE includes adding a user identifier for home domain routing.

  • Patent number: 8489695
Abstract: The claimed subject matter provides a system and/or method for establishing proxy communications between users on a social network. An exemplary method includes creating an alias on a primary social network when a user logs in to the primary social network, wherein the alias comprises the user's identity on a secondary social network. The method further includes creating a cache comprising a map relating a second user's identity on the primary social network to the second user's identity on a secondary social network, wherein the creation of the map is based, at least in part, on the user and the second user being identified as friends in the secondary social network. Communications from the user to the second user are directed through the primary social network based, at least in part, on the map. The communications are formatted to appear as if they were sent from the user's account on the secondary social network.

  • Patent number: 8489751
Abstract: In order to carry out actions such as setting up a call from an entity in the address realm of one middlebox to an entity in the address realm of another middlebox, then a middlebox control node such as a call server is used. Previously, the middlebox control node has needed to have pre-configured information about all the middleboxes and which address realms they are associated with. The present invention provides one or more middlebox-identity-providing nodes which are separate from the middlebox control node, and which are more directly connected to the end users of the service than the middlebox control node. This provides greater flexibility in network design and removes the need for middlebox information to be pre-configured at the middlebox control node. Instead, this information is sent to the middlebox control node, as part of signalling messages, from middlebox-identity-providing nodes.
