Abstract: A location based notification system for a shop having multiple components that are susceptible to a fault event includes an electronic data storage device and a fault event sensor apparatus associated with each susceptible component. The electronic data storage device has identification data for the associated component stored therein. Operators carry a portable device having an electronic data storage device reader and a memory. The fault event sensor apparatus generates fault event data when a fault event occurs in the associated component and transmits the fault event data to the electronic data storage device or the portable device. The data stored in the electronic data storage devices is read with an electronic data storage device reader of the portable device as the operator moves through the shop.

The first microcomputer periodically updates a variable value, performs a predetermined calculation operation whose final result should be a specific fixed value, adds that final result to the updated variable value to obtain a sum value, and transmits the sum value and updated variable value concurrently to the second microcomputer. The second microcomputer determines that the first microcomputer is operating abnormally if the difference between the received sum value and variable value is not equal to the specific fixed value.

The result of such combination is a lower cost backup function that is applied directly to the PC and, therefore, eliminates the requirement of external devices—such as a UPS—to perform this backup function. In this document, the electronic components that combine with the PC's power supply in order to provide the backup functionality described above are referred to as integrated backup unit (URI).

Abstract: A system and method for pseudo-randomly allocating page table memory for test pattern instructions to produce complex test scenarios during processor execution is presented. The invention described herein distributes page table memory across processors and across multiple test patterns, such as when a processor executes “n” test patterns. In addition, the page table memory is allocated using a “true” sharing mode or a “false” sharing mode. The false sharing mode provides flexibility of performing error detection checks on the test pattern results. In addition, since a processor comprises sub units such as a cache, a TLB (translation look aside buffer), an SLB (segment look aside buffer), an MMU (memory management unit), and data/instruction pre-fetch engines, the test patterns effectively use the page table memory to test each of the sub units.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a control system supports an unlimited number of feedback control loops all sharing control of a component. A component performance rate or “speed” is used as a common metric for negotiating control of the component. Each control loop continuously monitors a system parameter it is tasked with regulating, compares it to a setpoint for that system parameter, and “requests” a speed in relation to the deviation of the associated system parameter from the corresponding setpoint. A controller receives the requested speeds as dynamic inputs and selects one of the requested speeds according to predefined selection logic. The controller communicates the selected speed to an actuator, which causes the component to operate at the selected speed. In this manner, the control system in effect negotiates control of the component in a way that ensures that all of the system parameters are being managed within safe limits.

The data block to be replaced can be a defect or a remapped block. The data block to be replaced is not processed until it is requested to be transferred. When the data block to be replaced is to be transferred, transferring is stopped and the data block to be replaced is processed. Abstract: An input/output (I/O) device fault processing method for executing, without contradiction, fault recovery processing of a physical I/O device which is commonly used or shared by a plurality of virtual computers in such a way that no influence is exerted on a virtual computer which does not presently use the shared I/O device is disclosed. A hypervisor performs fault monitoring of the physical I/O device. Upon occurrence of an operation failure, this failure is detected and notified to a virtual management computer. In responding to receipt of the notice, the virtual management computer performs the fault recovery processing of the physical I/O device.

Abstract: A remote data processing system facilitates monitoring of the remote data processing system. The remote data processing system receives a data message via a communications network. The remote data processing system cascades at least a first stage software component and a second stage software component to form an installed remote software module for accepting the received data message. The remote data processing system detects the data message or a derivative at a group of logical nodes within the installed remote software module to determine flow of the data message, or a derivative thereof, between the logical nodes. The remote data processing system identifies a deficient software component of the installed remote software module as any of said software stage components that blocks or disrupts the flow of the data message between two adjacent logical nodes.

A validation scheme employs hashes to allow segments of the data file to be separately validated. Thus, if the upload process is interrupted or otherwise corrupted, segments of previously transferred data which have been transferred correctly may be validated, eliminating the need for re-transmission of that correctly transferred data.

Abstract: A computerized method, program product, and an autonomic data processing system that oversees real-time log data acquired by a logging application of an executing computer program. In response to an event occurring, the logging application communicates the occurrence of the event to an event correlation engine, and invokes a window-resizing module. If the event is part of a symptom of processing problems developing, then the window-resizing module immediately expands the amount of real-time log data that is retained in temporary memory to include not log data including the event but also log data during the time duration of the symptom. In conjunction with a information level module, the granularity or level of information of the log data that is archived increases immediately upon the event so that not only is more time of the log-data but also a higher information level of the log data is saved for symptom analysis and verification.

Responsive to detecting a change in a state of the network, determine whether the change in state is a loss of a communications link to a remote data processing system. If the change in state is a loss of the communications link, determine whether the communications link was established for at least a first period of time to be considered an acceptable connection to the remote data processing system; and create a new serviceable event, if a second period of time passes without reestablishing the communications link to the selected data processing system. Repeat occurrences of identical outages are tracked and multiple detected instances of an outage for different partitions are counted as a single failure in the examples.

Abstract: The present invention offers an advanced control software verification technology, particularly, an assertion-based verification technology, by providing a control microcomputer verification device and vehicle-mounted control device that exhibit improved verification efficiency. Assertion-based verification is performed with a verification device that has a hardware configuration in which the verification device is independent of a CPU core of a microcomputer but operates in parallel with the CPU core of the microcomputer, which sequentially executes control software. The hardware to be employed to achieve the above purpose is a finite state machine based on microprogrammed control. An interrupt factor is branched immediately before an interrupt controller for the microcomputer and used as a transition input. When an abnormal transition is detected, a warning is output to the microcomputer as an interrupt or output to the outside in the form of a signal.
