Abstract: A system and method is provided to assist a user in selecting, identifying, and handling email messages. A selection color module may provide for the display of color coding and selection highlighting. The selection color module may provide a secondary highlighting color to indicate messages related to a selected message. A category navigation module may provide one or more of the following: an indicator that provides the user with a number of items that are off the screen for a particular category, a command that causes the first entry for a category to be scrolled into view, a label to indicate the number of items in a particular category matching a particular criteria, and/or a control for scrolling between next or previous categories.

Abstract: An internet client-server method to rapidly preview video files. Source video files are compressed into lower resolution preview video files, thumbnail image files, and stored on a preview internet server. Typically only a small fraction of the source video frames, such as 1 frame in 60, is used for the preview. A user using a touch sensitive computerized device such as a smartphone can view the thumbnail video images while the compressed video files load in the background. When the user touches or swipes an image of interest, or shakes the device, device video preview application software detects the action and directs the device to start playing the preview video file(s). The application software detects when the user swipes the preview video, and changes the rate and direction of playback of the preview video file, and trickplay functionality, often according to the speed and/or direction of the swipe.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating and posting media is provided. For example, the invention allows a user to quickly create, signal process, encode, and transfer media files to a server for storage, posting, distribution, and retrieval. Thus, media such as audio, video, display, photo, spreadsheet, Web Clips, and HTML pages can be combined into a media file for uploading to a server and accessed from listings posted at web sites. In accordance with embodiments, a user downloads and installs a plug-in at the user's client computer. The user then registers and logs onto the server to perform various tasks. For example, the user can create a combined audio and photo media file at the client computer, in accordance with server based control parameters received from the system server. The plug-in then allows the user to perform digital signal processing and encoding of the media file at the client computer.

Abstract: In a method for identifying a table of contents in a document, an ordered sequence of text fragments is derived from the document. A table of contents is selected as a contiguous sub-sequence of the ordered sequence of text fragments satisfying the criteria: (i) entries defined by text fragments of the table of contents each have a link to a target text fragment having textual similarity with the entry; (ii) no target text fragment lies within the table of contents; and (iii) the target text fragments have an ascending ordering corresponding to an ascending ordering of the entries defining the target text fragments.

Abstract: Techniques pertaining to efficient scrolling are disclosed. One of the features of the efficient scrolling is the enablement of a search right at an appropriate item in a large list of items, thus avoiding going through the long list and wandering back and forth around a desired item. According to one embodiment, an indexing display is used. The indexing display includes a list of indexes, each corresponding to a group of items that sharing one or more common characteristics (e.g., a character or a kind). The indexing display is allowed first to be scrolled for a desired index. Once the desired index is confirmed, searching for a desired item in the large list starts at an item indexed by the desired index.

Abstract: A computer receives a first set of information items from a first content provider and a second set of information items from a second content provider. For each of the first and second sets of information items, the computer retrieves the document identified by the corresponding document link from a respective remote location. The computer applies a first (or second) set of search criteria to each of the first and second sets of information items and its associated documents to generate a first (or second) set of search result wherein the first and second sets of search criteria are different. The computer associates a first channel with the first set of search results and a second channel with the second set of search results.

Abstract: A method for organizing, visualizing, and navigating data objects within a dataset is presented, including network visualization alongside a detailed information display. The method includes interactivity with the visualization through network panning, zooming, and node clicking. The network nodes represent the data objects. Node proximity and links represent similarity or other relatedness measures between respective data objects. The network can be displayed in full to illustrate large scale properties. Clicking the nodes provides further data object information of the highlighted node, which is displayed alongside the network.

Abstract: A system may include a display to present a visualization comprising a plurality of graphical indicators, each of the graphical indicators associated with a respective one of a plurality of entities of interest, a touch-sensitive input surface to receive a touch input at a first portion of the visualization representing a current physical location of the apparatus and a drag input on the display device from the first portion to a second portion of the visualization, and a processor to filter the plurality of graphical indicators based on a distance between the first portion and the second portion. Filtering of the plurality of graphical indicators may include determination of a second distance based on the distance between the first portion and the second portion, and determination of at least one of the plurality of entities of interest, each of the at least one of the plurality of entities of interest located less than the second distance from the current physical location of the apparatus.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to mathematical programming for optimization based applications systems and provide a method, system and computer program product for providing an interface for generating and customizing optimization-based applications. A method for providing an interface for generating and customizing optimization-based applications can include generating an initial user interface having an objectives and sequences panel, the objectives and sequences panel can include a basic objective table, an aggregate objective table and an objective sequence table in a goal programming and goal weighting controller module executing in memory by a processor of a host computer. The method also includes rendering in the basic objective table a list of goals with corresponding indexes provided by the optimization application.

Abstract: The present invention is, in one embodiment, a system and method based on a client-server architecture for seamlessly integrating various information systems. In one embodiment, a bundle of files is deployed to a collaboration client, in order to enable the integration of the collaboration client with disparate information systems and content. In one embodiment, content within a mailbox item is allowed to become a “live” object, and is associated with trigger events, and actions, including sending all or part of the content to a separate information system. In one embodiment, mailbox items are subjected to predefined searches to assess whether they include certain content objects. In another embodiment, panel item elements are visible in the overview panel of the collaboration client. The user may interact with the panel items by dragging content onto them, double clicking them, and invoking actions from a context menu if one is available.

Abstract: The present invention provides a search capability to allow a user to easily locate a menu command or other user interface element associated with a search result. In one embodiment, a user enters a search term (or a portion thereof) in a search field. A list of results is displayed, for example in a results menu. The user can select or highlight any of the listed results; in response, the corresponding command is brought into view in context within the user interface, and is highlighted. The user can activate the selected command directly from the search results menu.

Abstract: A system and method for creating or editing a graph diagram. A system provides a mechanism to specify constraints on edge way points. Constraints may specify alignment with other way points, distribution of way points, spacing from other way points or nodes, or other types of constraints. A system may automatically determine edge way point constraints based on edge direction, edge type, target nodes or regions of nodes, or other characteristics of edges. The system enables a combination of constraints specified by a user and automatically determined by the system. Way points are positioned based on associated constraints, and edges are routed based on their associated way points.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer readable medium for script logic graphical mapping comprises displaying a panel associated with at least one script, presenting a branching logic associated with the panel and creating a graphical map of the panel and the branching logic where the graphical map allows zooming in to show panel logic associated with the panel, and the graphical map allows zooming out to show the branching logic associated with the panel.

Abstract: Systems and methods for nested roadmap information navigation in a graphical user interface (GUI) where a sequence of items is generated and stored in a memory of a computer system. The sequence of items includes at least one compound item. A number of user interface (UI) elements are displayed in a GUI screen, wherein each UI element represents an item of the sequence of items, and wherein the UI elements are ordered according to the sequence of items. The displayed UI elements include a UI element representing a compound item of the sequence of items. The compound item could be selected as a currently active item. The UI element representing the selected compound item can gradually expand to display one or more new UI elements representing component items subordinate to the compound item. The first of the component items is automatically selected as a currently active item.

Abstract: An approach is provided for presenting a global view of content. A content mapping platform receives an access address of content, the content including location information. The content mapping platform then determines availability information of the content by causing, at least in part, detection of the content at the access address and causing, at least in part, presentation of the content on a user interface of a user device indicating the location information based on the availability information of the content.

Abstract: A visualization design system is provided. The system includes a metadata component to describe characteristics of data. An analyzer determines attributes of a peer group, where the attributes are related to prior visualization design experiences of the group. A wizard component determines a subset of potential visualization types based in part on the characteristics of data and the attributes of the peer group.

Abstract: Various methods, systems and apparatus for displaying content associated with a point-of-interest (“POI”) in a digital mapping system, or a region within the digital map, are disclosed. One such method may include detecting a change in the zoom level of an electronic map displayed on a computing device, determining if the new zoom-level is at a pre-determined zoom level (e.g. at maximum zoom), identifying a POI on the map, retrieving content associated with the POI (“POI content”) and displaying the POI content. The method may further include detecting a change in the zoom, or pan, of the digital map while POI content is displayed, and removing the POI content in response.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing navigation assistance on a mobile device are provided. A method may include extracting information from at least one of a first map image and an address image, wherein the first map image is a digitized picture of a non-digitized map and the address image is a digitized picture of a non-digitized written address. The method may also include communicating the extracted information to a mapping service server. The method may further include receiving, from the mapping service server in response to communicating the extracted information, a second map image including routing information for assisting navigation of a user of a mobile device. The method may additionally include displaying the second map image including the routing information.

Abstract: A method for performing a location search includes receiving a location search query, identifying one or more geographic feature documents that satisfy the location search query, ranking the identified geographic feature documents in accordance with scores that are based, at least in part, on corresponding address support scores, to produce a set of ranked documents, and providing results, in accordance with the ranked documents, that identify at least one geographic feature corresponding to at least one of the ranked documents. An address support score for an identified geographic feature document can be based on one or more of: a standalone support score and a template support score.

Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus, system, and method for visual contextual searching in a computer application that has a graphical user interface (GUI). The apparatus includes a selection module that defines a selection area of the GUI that is displayed on the computer display. The user provides the necessary input defining the selection area using an input device such as a mouse to define the boundary of the selection area. A topic module determines a set of topics related to the GUI elements that are displayed within the selection area defined by the user. The topic module may make the association using a visual map. A display module then displays these results for the user in a results section that is shown on the display. The apparatus may apply filter rules to restrict the number and types of topics that the display module lists. Users may also associate topics with a particular GUI element or disassociate topics with a particular GUI element.

Abstract: A geometric instrument for analyzing curves and charts is described herein. The instrument is utilizable to facilitate review of land surveys, including ALTA surveys, title surveys, boundary surveys, topographical surveys, etc. The instrument allows users thereof to quickly and thoroughly review land surveys and data relating thereto, for instance, for title insurance purposes.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to the field of onboard flight management systems embedded in aircraft. The invention relates to a reconfiguration device (1) for reconfiguring a task processing context. The reconfiguration device (1) according to the invention notably comprises: a module for managing the tasks to be carried out (2), performing a sorting of the tasks according to a priority criterion; a module for managing a current task (3), managing the state of progress of the current task; a module for managing a context (4), saving contexts relating to the current task, to a highest priority task and restoring one of the contexts saved on order of an operator. Abstract: A computer software system is disclosed for facilitating a user's replacement or insertion of devices in a computer server network system. The system allows a user to swap or add peripheral devices while the system is running, or in a “hot” condition, with little or no user knowledge of how the system carries out the “hot swap” or “hot add” functions. The system, which consists of a graphical user interface (GUI) and associated computer software modules, allows the user to select a desired peripheral device location within a server, and then provides the modular software structure to automatically execute a series of steps in the hot swap or hot add process. Each step is prompted by the user from the GUI, to invoke commands to instruct a network server through its operating system and hardware to suspend the appropriate device adapters, if necessary, power down the desired device slot or canister, allow the user to replace or insert a new device, and finally restart the adapters and the slot power.

The imaging service accesses images of a location, arranges them such that they create a desired visual effect when displayed, and combines them in a visual presentation. The imaging service may employ a client/server system, in which case images and information are uploaded from a client, and the visual presentation is downloaded to the client. The imaging service may also receive compensation from a computer user for using the imaging service.

Abstract: A device, method, and system for providing an electronic reading environment are described herein. The device, method, and system convert standard electronic text into a hyper-text document. The hyper-text document transforms standard electronic text into access points that allow a reader to further explore each word, group of words, or image in the hyper-text document. Navigational aids and features assist in combining the advantages of paper-based and electronic-based text into one electronic reading environment for reading any electronic text.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for refining a user's query. An entity index, generated from a corpus of text documents, is provided. The entity index includes a set of entity structures, each including a plurality of terms. Each of the terms of an entity structure is a feature of the same entity. Entity structures can be retrieved from the entity index which match at least a portion of the user's query. Clusters of the retrieved entity structures are identified which have at least one of their terms in common. A cluster hierarchy is generated from the identified clusters in which nodes of the hierarchy are defined by one or more of the terms of the retrieved entity structures. At least a portion of the cluster hierarchy is presented to the user for facilitating refinement of the user's query through user selection of a node which, when formulated as a search, retrieves one or more responsive documents from the corpus of documents.

Abstract: A graphic programming system for associating distinctive arrow appearances to specific transaction(s) that the arrow may convey among and between on-screen objects. The distinctive appearance features include arrow color, arrow style, and double-headed arrows, among many other possibilities. The system provides default relationships between specific arrow transactions and arrow appearance, so that, for example, a arrow of a particular color is recognized by the system (and easily identified by the user) to carry out a particular transaction. These relationships may be selectively varied by the user to suit individual needs.

Work content for each of steps of the work to be carried out on a product is stored as moving image data in a storage unit. In one embodiment of the invention, a method for the game determination of tag relevance for social bookmarking can be provided. Abstract: A method allows a user to process a life or work event by enabling the user to perform certain operations, including creating at least one event instance based on an event definition that includes a specification of data required from an external source, a list of tasks to be completed, a task order, and one or more resources associated with each task, and processing the event instance by importing the data from the external source and by iteratively allowing the user to select a task in accordance with the task order and to access the resources associated with the selected task. The imported data may be used to pre-populate forms, or as other input within the tasks. If the imported data is processed or used to produce output data, the output data may be exported to an external destination.

Abstract: The present invention provides an interactive multimedia system for providing structured information systems, for example help systems for desktop and network based applications. The invention employs an interactive multimedia runtime container and rich media content and other data files for the structured system navigational components such as the Table of Contents (TOC), Index, Search, and Glossary. In another aspect, the invention provides a structured navigation interface through the use of rich media files driven by data files which allow the user or the author to create a customized appearance for the structured information system. The system is advantageously cross-browser and cross-platform compatible and ensures consistent navigation and look and feel across platforms and browsers.

Abstract: A simple display of items from a list, which changes in synchrony with the corresponding video display, and permits simple navigation under user control. Abstract: Method and system for providing graphical user interface for displaying hierarchical charts. According to various embodiments, the present invention provides a graphical user interface where relational data are displayed as one or more hierarchical charts. A hierarchical chart includes a plurality of nodes that are organized according to the hierarchical chart. Each of the nodes is associated with a data record that contains multiple level of information. At different view level, different amount of information for the nodes are displayed. A view control function is provided for the graphical user interface. If none (or all) of the nodes are selected, each nodes display the same level of information based associated with a particular view level. If only few of the nodes are selected, only the selected nodes responds changes in view level when being displayed.

Abstract: A system provides task-oriented enhancement of a software application that allows for remote, Web-based, technical support. The system observes user-interactive elements in the software application. Based on the observed user-interactive elements, the system generates at least one task indication and at least one respective instruction indication associated with the software application. Generation of the indications may be done dynamically as the software application loads or executes. The system may be activated locally or remotely to provide technical support, or “coaching”, to a user. The system may also be used to generate documentation for the software application.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing context sensitive help on an electronic device. The system include a processor, an application attributes discovery module which provides one or more attributes associated with an application running on the electronic device, a system state discovery module which provides system information associated with components of the electronic device, a help infrastructure module which uses the system information and application attributes to determine a help context at the time a user invokes a request for help, a help context mapping module which includes one or more help contexts including a context node that best matches the system state information and which contains one or more help topic identifiers that are mapped to help topics, a help topic collection module that provides one or more help topics corresponding to the help topic identifiers and a help viewer that displays the help topics.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided, which may provide activity coordination information. An apparatus may include a processor configured to cause a map to be displayed in a viewing agent. The processor may be further configured to receive an indication of a selection of a location on the map. The processor may also be configured to determine one or more information atoms having associated location information defining a location within a predefined distance of the selected location. The processor may additionally be configured to cause the one or more determined information atoms to be displayed in the viewing agent. The search module operates, according to an embodiment, by indexing stored data without interrupting use of the stored data, synchronizing the indexed data with data stored subsequent to the indexing step, searching at least one of the synchronized data and the indexed data, and outputting results of the searching step.

An embodiment includes a first computer to maintain a database of data objects and a second computer to execute an application program that operates on a file having text elements.
