  • Patent number: 8832564
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to allow users to browse services, content items, or the like using a personalized user interface. Thus, for example, users can browse content offerings on the second display in a language and font set that are personalized to themselves. Users may also browse offerings that match a parental ratings setting, and use a background image and layout of their choice. The second displays generally do not require additional investment by the user because the same make use of a device, e.g., a smartphone, laptop computer, tablet computer, an internet appliance, a desktop computer, etc., which most users would already have in their possession. Such a second display is a significant complement to an IPTV because of the second display's strength in supported languages and character font sets, flexible user interface, data entry, processing power, and user experience in content management.

In one preferred embodiment, the user is provided with a graphical user interface where he or she can add to or modify the multimedia content contained therein by simply clicking the mouse above an empty track location, with the replacement clips being chosen and inserted into the work automatically. In another embodiment, the user will specify the screening criteria for a plurality of tracks, which tracks will then be automatically populated with clips according to the user's rules to generate a multimedia work.

Abstract: Methods, systems and/or computer program products are disclosed that help facilitate visual presentation composition. A method includes analyzing a plurality of video clips, each video clip comprising a plurality of frames, to determine a subset of the plurality of video clips that have at least one frame depicting one or more faces. The method further includes presenting, in a user interface of a video editing application, the determined subset of video clips along with indicia indicating one or more face-related characteristics of each of the subset of video clips. Furthermore, the method includes receiving, from a user of the video editing application, a selection of one or more frames of at least one of the subset of video clips to populate a shot placeholder in a movie-building template, and generating a playable media file representing a movie based at least in part on the selection received from the user.

Abstract: Movie video trailers for a particular movie quote may be created and provided to a user. The Internet may be searched to identify documents that likely include references to a movie. A reference to the movie within an identified document may be detected and determined to be a movie quote. The movie quote and related information may be extracted from the identified document. A location of the movie quote within the movie may be determined. A movie video trailer that includes the movie quote may be created based on the location of the movie quote. A request for a movie video trailer that includes a movie quote or a partial movie quote, specified by the user, may be received from the user. A movie video trailer that includes the movie quote or the partial movie quote may be identified and provided to the user.

Abstract: Improved seek techniques for content playback are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise a processor circuit and a content management module, and the content management module may be operable by the processor circuit to determine a seek destination comprising an event within a content item, identify a time index value corresponding to the event, and initiate playback of the content item at the time index value. In this manner, improved seek results may be realized that allow users to seek to specific events or points of interest within consumed content. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8677242
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for simultaneously displaying a plurality of timeline markers within a timeline marker region of an interface for a video application. The timeline marker region may include multiple display tracks within which numerous timeline markers may be positioned for simultaneous display. At a given instant, each timeline marker may appear in a particular one of the multiple display tracks, and the entire collection of timeline markers being simultaneously displayed at that instant may be arranged so that all of the timeline markers appear separately from each other. Pairs of timeline markers which coincide with non-overlapping portions of the timeline may be placed in the same display track, while timeline markers that coincide with overlapping portions of the timeline may be put into separate display tracks, thus guaranteeing that all the timeline markers appear separately from each other.

  • Patent number: 8671359
Abstract: A scroll display control device is provided, which is capable of scroll-displaying a text corresponding to a picture in such manner that the text can be easily understood. The scroll display control device scroll-displays, in synchronism with reproduction of the picture correlated to text information (TI), the corresponding text information (TI) on a text display screen (TW). A scroll speed calculation unit (102) dynamically calculates a text scroll speed (v) on the basis of a time length of a picture section presently under reproduction, a text quantity of the corresponding text section and text display setting information. A picture text control unit (104) scroll-displays text of the text section at a predetermined reference position of the text display screen (TW) according to the scroll speed (v). By displaying preceding and succeeding texts with respect to the text corresponding to the picture section presently under reproduction, it is possible to read back and pre-read.
