The grouping tool provides a drawing tool that allows a user to draw a boundary in the composite display area. The drawing tool includes a moveable drawing element that moves about the media clips in the composite display area in order to draw the boundary.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a list view that displays a list of media clips and, for each media clip, displays each tag associated with the media clip. The list view includes a list area for displaying the list of media clips and tags. In some embodiments, the list view includes a preview section for displaying a representation of a clip selected from the list view's list area. The list view, in some embodiments, displays information related to each tag such as a starting point of the tag's range, an ending point of the tag's range, and a duration of the range.

Abstract: A user interface with software tensing may be described. An apparatus may include a user interface module to display an index list, a software lens list, and an aperture box. The index list may represent a list of available options. The client device comprises a screen, an input device, and a processor configured to run a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI comprises a timeline, a selection indicator, availability indicators, and event tags. The timeline is adjustable by user input. The selection indicator is movable on the timeline by user input, and designates a time of interest. The availability indicators indicate aggregate availability statuses of video at each time on the timeline, from the plurality of recorders. The event tags indicate types and times or time ranges of events on the timeline. The client device is configured to receive video availability information from the plurality of recorders, and the processor is configured to update the GUI as the aggregate availability status of video changes.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to allow users to browse services, content items, or the like using a personalized user interface. Thus, for example, users can browse content offerings on the second display in a language and font set that are personalized to themselves. Users may also browse offerings that match a parental ratings setting, and use a background image and layout of their choice. The second displays generally do not require additional investment by the user because the same make use of a device, e.g., a smartphone, laptop computer, tablet computer, an internet appliance, a desktop computer, etc., which most users would already have in their possession. Such a second display is a significant complement to an IPTV because of the second display's strength in supported languages and character font sets, flexible user interface, data entry, processing power, and user experience in content management.

Viewing data for segments of the media program are monitored and used to compile statistics that are presented to the user in a histogram, so that popular portions of the media program can be identified and navigated to. One embodiment includes a searchable transcript of the media program that is synchronized with the histogram.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that automatically produces a summary of a video. During operation, the system partitions the video into scenes and then determines similarities between the scenes. Next, the system selects representative scenes from the video based on the determined similarities, and combines the selected scenes to produce the summary for the video.

Abstract: Improved seek techniques for content playback are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise a processor circuit and a content management module, and the content management module may be operable by the processor circuit to determine a seek destination comprising an event within a content item, identify a time index value corresponding to the event, and initiate playback of the content item at the time index value. In this manner, improved seek results may be realized that allow users to seek to specific events or points of interest within consumed content. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for simultaneously displaying a plurality of timeline markers within a timeline marker region of an interface for a video application. The timeline marker region may include multiple display tracks within which numerous timeline markers may be positioned for simultaneous display. At a given instant, each timeline marker may appear in a particular one of the multiple display tracks, and the entire collection of timeline markers being simultaneously displayed at that instant may be arranged so that all of the timeline markers appear separately from each other. Pairs of timeline markers which coincide with non-overlapping portions of the timeline may be placed in the same display track, while timeline markers that coincide with overlapping portions of the timeline may be put into separate display tracks, thus guaranteeing that all the timeline markers appear separately from each other.

Abstract: A video processing system may include a display and a video processor coupled to the display. The video processor may be configured to ingest a time-referenced video and media content, correlate the media content to corresponding points in time in the time-referenced video, and generate on the display a video window for playing the time-referenced video and a media window for displaying the media content. The video processor may also be configured to bi-directionally associate the video window and the media window so that playing of the video changes the media window based upon reaching corresponding points in time in the time-referenced video, and so that selection of media content in the media window changes the video play to reflect corresponding points in time in the time-referenced video.
