  • Patent number: 7152446
Abstract: At the time for forming an internal gear from a raw material 2 of an internal gear, first, the raw material 2 is externally inserted onto a forming die 3 and fixed to the forming die 3 through a pressing die 4. Next, a forming roll 5 is moved in a direction as indicated by an arrow B of FIG. 6 while rotating the forming die 3. By this, the inner peripheral surface of the raw material 3 is pressed against an outer gear part 3b formed on the outer peripheral surface of the forming die 3 so that an internal gear part 1c is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the raw material 2. The rotating direction of the forming die 3 is selected such that the first end part of the outer gear part 3b located on the front side in the feeding direction of the forming roll 5 is moved ahead in the rotating direction (the direction as indicated by an arrow A of FIG. 6) of the second end part located on the rear side in the feeding direction of the forming roll 5.

  • Patent number: 6804615
Abstract: A method according to the present invention calculates a performance function for a structural system (10) that can be used to determine system dynamics at points of interest on the structural system (10). A test input force is applied to an input subsystem (12) and an output subsystem (14) while the motion in response to the test input force is measured to determine a drive point transfer function. A test relative force is applied to the input subsystem (12) and output subsystem (14) at interface points in all degrees of freedom while the motion in response to the test relative force is measured in all degrees of freedom to determine the interface transfer functions. A performance function for the structural system (10) is mathematically calculated based upon the measured drive point transfer functions and interface transfer functions.

  • Patent number: 6094955
Abstract: A rolling mill system associates an autonomous control unit with each piece of equipment in the rolling mill system. The autonomous control unit has a model of the particular piece of equipment, for example, of the rolling mill, a reheat furnace or a cooling bath, and data indicating constraints on the operation of the equipment. A metal shape to be produced is described as a set of machine independent steps, and the performance of these steps is bid upon by the autonomous control units according to the constraint models and internal goals. Bids having conflicting requirements may generate counterbids until a complete plan for the production of the product is generated.

  • Patent number: 5906127
Abstract: An internal spline ring having an internal root circle diameter D1 and an internal tip diameter D2 is formed by axially press-driving an externally splined mandrel having an external tip diameter equal to the internal root circle diameter, which has a shape supplementarily mating with the internal spline ring, into a half-finished annular member having an internal diameter smaller than the internal tip diameter while pressing radially the half-finished annular member against the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4885924
Abstract: In a method of reshaping a container (1) having side wall (2) and a bottom wall (3), the container is rotated by support means (11, 12) while a roll (13) is applied thereto and moved towards the container axis. The bottom wall (3) comprises a central panel (4), an annular wall (5) depending from the periphery of the central panel, an outwardly convex bead (6) of arcuate cross-section on which the container stands and a transition wall (7) extending radially and axially from the convex bead to the side wall (2), and the roll is applied to the transition wall (7) to reshape it and to tighten the curvature of the convex bead. The method permits the formation of bottom wall profiles which resist eversion under the influence of pressure within the container so that thinner metals, such as tinplate or aluminum alloys, may be used.

  • Patent number: 4884427
Abstract: A method of forming a helical internal gear by cold work, wherein a hollow blank is fitted onto a die on a mandrel, which is provided on an outer periphery thereof with a helical tooth profile and, while the blank is clamped and held in both axial directions thereof, a roller is pressed onto an outer periphery of the blank in a direction perpendicular to an axis of the mandrel while rotating the blank together with the mandrel, whereby the hollow blank is plastically deformed along the helical tooth profile on the die, and then a helical internal gear is formed on an inner peripheral surface of the blank.

  • Patent number: 4790166
Abstract: A round collar maker having as one of its sections a conventional combination rotary machine, the collar maker having a pair of rollers on axles of the machine and having a guide provided with a cylindrical circumference which latter is arranged about an axis offset to one side of the axes of the shafts. The guide has an exterior portion having a cylindrical exterior rotating about a guide support which is cylindrical and horizontally elongated. The support is held on a support carrier which is attachable to the spindle of the machine. The rollers are reversible and are shaped so as to be useable, also, as rollers for a seam lock spreader which uses the same combination rotary machine as one of its sections.

  • Patent number: 4785647
Abstract: A ring sizer includes a handle assembly which rotates about a post with first roller and gear mounted on the post to cooperate with a second roller and gear on the handle assembly. A rotatable handle on the handle assembly moves the second roller and gear towards the first roller and gear. A pair of keeper pins on the handle assembly hold a ring on the first roller while the second roller exerts pressure on the ring shank to lengthen it. A groove in the second roller matches the cross-section of the ring shank to eliminate stretch marks and marring on the ring shank. The ring has a shank with a thick portion diametric to the jewel portion. The method of using a ring sizer calls for tightening the grooved roller adjacent the non-thick portions of the shank, so that no dents are caused in the shank. Beveled edges in the shank eliminate stretch marks and sharp edges during sizing.

  • Patent number: 4210008
Abstract: A machine for working generally tubular materials to perform deburring, pinch rolling and similar operations. The open end of the work is inserted over an idling roller mounted on the end of a first shaft. A second roller is rotationally driven on the end of a second shaft, and eccentric means controlled by separate (including manual) means are provided for varying the lateral clearance between the rollers to compress and effect rotation of the tubular work contemporaneously. A unique spur gear reduction arrangement includes a pinion gear on the driving NEMA C-face motor shaft which engages the larger ring gear. The ring gear is ball keyed to the shaft supporting the driven roller. An additional opening in the housing and shaft support casting is obviated, the ring gear being inserted through the motor face opening and moved laterally to engage the driven shaft over the keying ball in a driven shaft lateral bore.
