Sensing Lead End Or Tail End Patents (Class 72/11.5)
  • Patent number: 9050638
Abstract: Methods and Apparatus to increase the efficiency of roll-forming and leveling systems are described herein. An example strip material processing apparatus are described herein includes a first drive system to drive a first plurality of workrolls and a second drive system to drive a second plurality of workrolls. A controller provides a first command reference to the first drive system. The controller measures a first output parameter of the first drive system when the first drive system operates at the first command reference. The controller determines a second command reference based on the first output parameter and the controller drives the second drive system based on the second command reference.

  • Patent number: 8573013
Abstract: During the bending of sheet metal sections (1, 2) in particular for forming can edges using a bending machine, the sheet metal is pre-treated at a flexing station (50) before reaching the bending station. The contact position (x, y, y?) of a sheet on a measuring plate (38) is measured and the signal representing the contact position is reproduced on a display (25), enabling the operator to adjust at least one element (7, 8, 9, 20) of the flexing station in accordance with the deviation of the actual contact position from the target contact position, either manually or by means of a drive. The signal can also be used to automatically adjust at least one element of the flexing station.

  • Patent number: 8459074
Abstract: A strip has a strip head and a strip leg. It is rolled, beginning at the strip head, in a roll stand of a rolling device between an upper and a lower roller arrangement of the roll stand. It is monitored whether the strip foot reaches a switching point located, viewed in the rolling direction, in front of the roll stand. From the time the strip leg reaches the switching point, the roller arrangements are subjected to a bending force expanding the roller arrangements by means of an adjusting device, the force being at least as high as a minimal force. The minimal force is at least as high as a balancing force of the upper roller arrangement. The minimal force is determined as a function of the parameters of the strip and/or the operating parameters of the rolling device.

  • Patent number: 8424355
Abstract: A pre-rounding element (14) is used in a rounding apparatus (4) for rounding can body blanks from sheet metal blanks. The lower element part (22) of the pre-rounding element (14) is displaceable by an actuation element (23). This allows the adjustment of the pre-rounding element even during operation of the rounding apparatus. Preferably a measurement of sheet metal blank properties takes place. The measurement may include a thickness measurement and/or a strength measurement of blanks. The pre-rounding element is controlled in dependency of the measurement result. This allows a constant rounding result even with varying sheet metal properties.

  • Patent number: 8096157
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for rolling up a metallic strip (1), in particular a steel strip, to a coil (2), the strip (1) being kept under longitudinal tension between a driver (3), consisting of at least one driver top roll (4) and at least one driver bottom roll (5), and a winding pin (6). The strip (1) is rolled up on the winding pin (6) to form the coil (2). In order to prevent the undesired opening of the wound coil in a simple manner, a bending moment (MB) is initiated in the strip, said bending moment acting perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the strip (1) and causing a plastic deformation when a defined remaining length of the strip (1) is reached. The invention also relates to a device for rolling up a metallic strip.

  • Patent number: 7980109
Abstract: A method for inspecting a strip in a reversible rolling plant comprising at least one cage arranged between two winding/unwinding devices each having a mandrel. The rolling is performed in several passes until the requested thickness is obtained over the whole length of a useful part ranging between two service lengths maintained wound on each of the mandrels. According to the invention, at the end of the last pass between a winder/unwinder placed upstream of the cage in the rolling direction and acting as an uncoiler, and a downstream winder/unwinder acting as a coiler, the upstream service length is unwound completely from the uncoiler, then subjected to a roll pass; the strip is then cut in the vicinity of the end of its useful part to release, at its rear end in the direction of the last pass, an inspection length whereof at least one part corresponds to said upstream service length rolled once.

  • Patent number: 6959571
Abstract: Hydraulic cylinders are provided in a housing so as to be opposed to work rolls and backup rolls. Before a front end portion of a rollable material is engaged between the work rolls, the working oil pressure of the hydraulic cylinders is set at a high pressure value to make a pressing force on roll chocks high. After the rollable material is completely engaged between the work rolls, the working oil pressure of the hydraulic cylinders is set at a low pressure value to make the pressing force on the roll chocks low.

  • Patent number: 6449996
Abstract: The present invention eliminates the need to stop the operation of a line even when trouble arises before, during, or after an operation of joining metal blocks in hot rolling. According to a specific solving means of the present invention, when a succeeding metal block is to be subjected to hot finish rolling in succession to a preceding metal block after the leading end of the succeeding metal block is joined to a tail end 10B of the preceding metal block on the inlet side of a finish rolling mill 26, it is determined before and after joining whether or not endless rolling is impossible. When it is impossible, joining is aborted, and the succeeding metal block 12 is temporarily stopped, is fed again after the tail end 10B of the preceding metal block moves out of the finish rolling mill 26, and is finish-rolled under the conditions set for batch rolling.

  • Patent number: 6230531
Abstract: The rolling data collecting system according to this invention collects rolling data of a rolled strip to be serially rolled through a tandem rolling mill, using the first rolling data measuring means installed at each roll stand and the second rolling data measuring means installed in the rolling line. The measuring point decision means decides a measuring point on a rolled strip which is used for measuring data by the first and second rolling data measuring means. The tracking means detects that the decided measuring point has reached each roll stand locating from the entry side of the tandem rolling mill and to the delivery side thereof, and the location of the second rolling data measuring means. Every time when the measuring point reaches each roll stand and the second rolling data measuring means, the rolling data collecting means collects the rolling data of the rolled strip or rolled strip measured by the first and second rolling data measuring means.

  • Patent number: 6216504
Abstract: Set values of a gauge-alteration-in-rolling amount after the next (i+1)-th stand and subsequent stands are modified, using the rolling results obtained when a leading end of a succeeding material passes through the i-th stand and the gauge results of the leading end portion of the succeeding material detected by the i-th stand outlet side gauge detector. The gauge results of the leading end of the succeeding material on the i-th stand outlet side is tracked up to the (i+1)-th stand, to thereby control the rolling speed of the i-th stand so as to make constant a mass-flow from the leading end of the succeeding material on the (i+1)-th stand inlet side. Thereby, the reverse off gauge caused at the succeeding stand, by turning on the AGC of the preceding stand, can be prevented and the gauge can be controlled to a desired value from the coil leading end portion.

  • Patent number: 6167736
Abstract: A system for controlling front and tail end gauge of a continuous hot rolled product in a rolling mill includes first and second individually driven roll stands arranged successively along said pass line in advance of a group of roll stands. A controller adjusts the operating speed relationship between the first and second individually driven roll stands to achieve an increased level of tension in the front and tail end segments of the product passing between the first and second individually driven roll stands. The increased level of tension results in the decrease in product cross sectional area sufficient to compensate for the lack of cross sectional area reduction resulting from the absence of interstand tension experienced by said front and tail end segments while being rolled in the group of roll stands.
