  • Patent number: 11858021
Abstract: A control device (3b) for a roll stand (1). During rolling of a metal strip (2) in the roll stand (1), the device receives measurement data (M) for a lateral position (y) of the metal strip (2) on the inlet side and/or outlet side of the roll stand (1). Taking into account parameters (P) of the stand regulator (3a) on the basis of the deviation in the lateral position (y) from a target position (y*), a stand regulator (3a) of the control device (3b) determines a tilt value (?s) for the roll stand (1) and controls the roll stand (1) accordingly. The control device (3b) determines at least one variable (V1, V2, Q1, Q2) from which it is derived, for both strip edges (7, 8) of the metal strip (2), whether the metal strip (2) forms an undulation (9) in the region of the particular strip edge (7, 8).

Abstract: Spiral forming methods can be used to join edges of a rolled material along a spiral joint to form conical and/or cylindrical structures. Alignment of the edges of the rolled material can be controlled in a wrapping direction as the material is being joined along the spiral joint to form the structure. By controlling alignment of the edges of the material as the edges of the material are being joined, small corrections can be made over the course of forming the structure facilitating control over geometric tolerances of the resulting spiral formed structure.

Abstract: A flat metal aligning device (21) which allows the flat metal entering a rolling stand (22) of a rolling mill to be effectively aligned or centered by using retractable pusher elements to control the alignment and feeding of metal work pieces into the rolling stand, thus avoiding potential damage to the working rollers (2) while reducing the times to produce the rolled products. Moreover, the device according to the invention allows the rolling stand to be supplied with short slabs when they may not be fed by the motorized rollers at the stand inlet, precisely due to their short length.

  • Patent number: 8752409
Abstract: In a multi-stand rolling mill train, a strip successively runs through individual rolling stands. The strip—always as seen in relation to a rolling center line—is threaded into each of the rolling stands with known respective head offset and inlet-side head pitch, and therefore a strip head emerges with the respective head offset, a respective outlet-side head pitch and a respective outlet-side head curvature. The respective outlet-side head pitch is determined on the basis of respective inlet-side head pitch and pass reduction which takes place in the respective rolling stand. The respective outlet-side head curvature of the strip is determined based on respective measured and further data. The respective outlet-side head curvature is used to determine a respective control intervention for the respective rolling stand and/or the one arranged directly downstream and to drive the corresponding rolling stand in accordance with the respective determined control intervention.

  • Patent number: 7140221
Abstract: In a system for subdividing hot rolled product lengths being delivered from a rolling mill along a first path, a first switch acts in concert with a first shear to subdivide each product length traveling along the first path into successive segments including a front end segment, a plurality of intermediate segments, and a tail end segment, and to alternately deliver the successive segments to one or the other of two adjacent downstream second paths leading to a cooling bed. Second switches on the second paths are selectively adjustable between first positions allowing the intermediate segments to continue along the second paths, and second positions diverting the front and tail end segments from the second paths to third paths. A second shear chops the front and tail end segments moving along the third paths into scrap pieces.

  • Patent number: 6920772
Abstract: A pinch roll unit for either propelling or retarding a product moving along the pass line of a rolling mill comprises a pair of levers mounted for rotation about parallel first axes. Roll shafts are carried by the levers with each roll shaft being journalled for rotation about a second axis parallel to the first axis of its respective lever. Pinch rolls are carried by the roll shafts and are positioned to define a gap therebetween for receiving the product. An electrically powered first motor operates via a linkage to rotate the levers about the first axes and to move the pinch rolls between open positions spaced from the product, and closed positions contacting and gripping the product therebetween. An electrically powered second motor rotatably drives the pinch rolls.

Abstract: The invention relates to a mill train (1) for milling a strip-type product to be milled (10). Said mill train comprises a number of roll stands (2) which are successively arranged in a milling direction (x) and which can be respectively pivoted about a rotational axis (18) which is essentially perpendicular to the milling direction (x). The aim of the invention is to maintain a belt run which favours a pre-determined milling result, in an especially simple and reliable manner. According to the invention, a control value (S) is pre-determined for the pivoting angle of a roll stand, or of each roll stand (2), according to the determined contour of the strip end (30) of a product (10) which has already been milled. According to the invention, additional control elements can also be used.

The measuring point decision means decides a measuring point on a rolled strip which is used for measuring data by the first and second rolling data measuring means. Abstract: A system for controlling front and tail end gauge of a continuous hot rolled product in a rolling mill includes first and second individually driven roll stands arranged successively along said pass line in advance of a group of roll stands. A controller adjusts the operating speed relationship between the first and second individually driven roll stands to achieve an increased level of tension in the front and tail end segments of the product passing between the first and second individually driven roll stands. The increased level of tension results in the decrease in product cross sectional area sufficient to compensate for the lack of cross sectional area reduction resulting from the absence of interstand tension experienced by said front and tail end segments while being rolled in the group of roll stands.
