Abstract: A bending method for a straight needle-shaped material which has a thickness decreased from a body portion to a needle point that is inserted between a roller having a processing surface and a belt and is wound around the roller via a separating member. Then the roller is rotated and the belt is wound, thereby pressing and curving the straight needle-shaped material onto the processing surface. In a suture needle, a portion of a tip side including the needle point is formed as a non-restricted portion which is not restricted by the processing surface of the roller, and a portion except for the non-restricted portion is formed as a curved portion which is bent along the processing surface of the roller.

Abstract: When rolling hot-rolled strips, different draughts per pass might occur during the rolling operation over the length of the roll gap, due to changes in the hardness of the rolling stock, to the roll gap itself or to the geometry of the incoming rolling stock. These different draughts per pass lead to lateral deviations and shifts of the rolling stock in the roll stand and to a lateral banding of the outgoing hot-rolled strip. In order to avoid these defects by intentionally influencing the geometry of the rough-rolled strip, it is proposed to interconnect in at least one roughing-down stand a dynamic positioning in the roughing-down stock (1) with fast and powerful lateral guides (8,9) arranged before and after the roughing-down stand (1), by corresponding regulation operations, in such a way that a grainy or tapering bloom (4) is shaped into a straight and taper-free roughed-down strip (5) in one or more passes, in continuous or reciprocating operation.

Abstract: The invention provides apparatus and methods for coiling and uncoiling a metal strip in which the angular position of a coiler is measured and an actuator is provided for a moveable roll, the moveable roll position being varied as a function of the coiler. The present invention aims to avoid tension variations in the metal which cause width and thickness variations in rolling operations for instance.
Abstract: Roll gap control is provided using a first roll position detector that detects a first position of a first roll, a second roll position detector that detects a first position of a second roll and a third roll position detector that detects a first position of the third roll. A processor determines a second position of the first roll based on the first position of the second roll and the first position of the third roll.
