  • Patent number: 6023956
Abstract: An apparatus (1) serves to bend a hollow section (2) with which a spacer frame for insulating glass sheets is to be manufactured. For this purpose, the hollow section (2) can already be filled with drying agent during bending or, however, still be empty. The bending apparatus also has, in addition to a bending tool (11) and an abutment (13), a hold-down clamp (17) for impinging upon a side band (6) and/or a flange (10) whose cross section continues internally, and parallel thereto a support (16), so that the external proportions of the hollow section (2) remain precisely preserved even in the bending area (4). In order to support thereby the bending motion and the deformation, as well as the flow of the material of the hollow section (2) and its side bands (6)/flanges (10), the hold-down clamp (17) is subdivided and has an element (171) co-rotatable with the bending motion in the bending direction, which supports the change of direction of the side band (6)/flange (10) during the bending operation.

  • Patent number: 6003358
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to bending a workpiece to form a desired configuration and, in particular, to a method and apparatus for forming bends "out of sequence," i.e., in a time sequence different from the spatial sequence of the bends on the workpiece. The apparatus of the present invention include a bending system for bending a workpiece and a positioning system for positioning the workpiece relative to a bending region so that bends can be formed in various locations across the bending region. By virtue of the disclosed structures, a series of bends can be formed on a workpiece at various locations within the bending region. Bends can be formed out sequence and without advancing the workpiece relative to the bending region.

  • Patent number: 5878615
Abstract: A cutter/bender apparatus is provided for selectively cutting and bending a workpiece. The bending member includes a bending pin actuated by a hydraulic cylinder that moves the bending pin into and out of engagement with the workpiece to clamp the workpiece against a support plate. When clamped, another hydraulic cylinder lifts a movable bending member toward the workpiece, bending the workpiece about the bending pin in the process. The cutting member includes a fixed cutting member and a movable cutting member mounted in side to side abutment. The cutting members include a slot that extends laterally therethrough in which the workpiece to be cut is placed. The hydraulic cylinder that operates the movable bending member also provides motion for the movable cutting member. As the movable cutting member moves, it moves the aligned slots of the individual cutting members out of alignment, shearing the workpiece in the process.

  • Patent number: 5836188
Abstract: Both a method and apparatus are disclosed for forming a bend in an elongated member, such as a tube, at a predetermined target angle. The elongated member is first bent to an angle equal to the target angle plus a predetermined increment. The elongated member is then returned to the target angle and a value representative of the force necessary to maintain the elongated member at the target angle is inputted into a central processor. This inputted value is then compared with a threshold value and, in the event that the inputted value exceeds the threshold value, the predetermined increment is incremented and the above steps are repeated until the inputted value is less than the threshold value. An apparatus for performing the method of the present invention is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5758537
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting, inspecting, and adjusting probe card needles used during testing of fabricated circuits. A build wafer, comprised of build and scrub target patterns, is used to mount and re-work probe needle assemblies onto a probe card. Each build target is composed of a hard material that is resistant to probe needle scratching, and is offset a preset distance from the position of the bonding pads on the actual wafer to be tested. Each scrub target is composed of a soft material that is easily disturbed by the probe needle's scrubbing action. By counting the number of lines broken or cut by a probe needle's scrub mark, the approximate length and width of the scrub mark may be ascertained. An adjustment tool is designed to fit snugly around the untapered, thickest portion of the probe needle. The tool is rotated along the axis of the probe needle shaft, allowing the technician to "tweak" the probe needle either up or down.

  • Patent number: 5653139
Abstract: A portable pneumatic rebar bending device has a base portion, a pivoting portion, and a pneumatic cylinder connecting and operable to pivot the pivoting portion with respect to the base portion. The axis of pivot includes a radiused wheel having a shallow "V" shaped slot about which the radius of curvature of the rebar is formed. The radiused wheel can be, where necessary, removed from the pivoting members where the required bend is so extreme that the device would otherwise be trapped. A pair of handles facilitates manual positioning and carriage. A weak spring acts to reset the pivoting member with respect to the base member once the pneumatically operated cylinder is de-pressured. The weak spring prevents injury on closure, since the presence of a hand or finger is more that adequate to prevent the force of the spring from acting to close the two members. An adjustment is provided to enable a variety of sizes of rebar to be used with the device of the present invention.

Abstract: Briefly, and in accordance with the foregoing, the present invention comprises a roller assembly for use with a bending apparatus for bending conduit and the like. The bending apparatus includes a frame, a bending shoe associated with the frame and a drive device for controllably driving the bending shoe. The roller assembly provides a roller which pivotably adjusts to an outside surface of the workpiece to accommodate variations in the workpiece while it is being bent during a rolling operation. The roller assembly includes a shaft attached and supported by the frame, two pivot segments and two roller dies. The pivot segments are positioned along and spaced apart on the shaft and each has an arcuate surface in a facing orientation with the other pivot segment. The roller dies have facing ends and base ends and a pivot socket formed in the base end. The pivot socket is sized and dimensioned for cooperatively mating with the arcuate surface of the pivot segment.

The purpose of the invention is to design a frame bending machine with which frames of the most diverse types can be automatically produced without risk of material losses or of deforming the frames. The frame bending machine should also be easy to integrate in an assembly line. For this purpose, a spool is provided, after which the steel passes through a wire straightener composed of a rotor and rollers, measurement and traction rollers linked to the bending device, cutting means and a centering metal sheet.
