Abstract: Disclosed herein is a sheet metal stamping device and methods for reducing the size of a blank required for producing a stamped part therefrom than is conventionally possible. The device utilizes an intermediate clamp section with projections having clamping formations located thereon which complement clamping formations located on a first die section. The intermediate clamp section projections allow for the use of a smaller blank size as less addendum material is required to secure the blank during the stamping process. The blank is secured using the intermediate clamp section and the first die section prior to the second die section engaging the blank to stamp the part. In some embodiments, retention beads resultant from the clamping process may remain in the stamped part, that being inside a trim line. Furthermore, in some embodiments, a blank shifter may be provided to locate the blank between the die sections prior to clamping.

Abstract: A forming machine has a shearing device for shearing a bar. This shearing device comprises a fixed blade, with a passage for feeding through the bar to be sheared, and a shearing part which can be moved forward and backward parallel to the fixed blade. The shearing part comprises a first shearing blade, with which a bar section projecting from the fixed blade can be sheared in a forward movement of the shearing part, and a second shearing blade, with which a bar section projecting from the fixed blade can be sheared in a backward movement of the shearing part. In addition, the forming machine has a disposal point, to which the second shearing blade transports, as scrap pieces, all the bar sections sheared by it. Due to scrap pieces being sheared solely by means of the second shearing blade, empty places in the forming stations and the associated disadvantages can be avoided.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method of blanking and hot forming an elongated part from a coil of press hardened steel sheet stock, including the step of: cutting a blank from the coil of press hardened steel sheet stock such that the blank has a length that is greater than a width, and such that the length is substantially parallel to the rolling direction. Ideally, the blank is cut such that the length is parallel to the rolling direction within plus or minus ten degrees. The present invention also provides ultra high-strength metallic components, preferably automotive body shell parts, hot formed from coils of press hardened steel sheet stock. Each part has a body with a body length that is greater than a body width, and one or more weld joints. The body also has a material texture orientation that is substantially parallel to the body length.

Abstract: A control arm for vehicle suspension systems has first and second rigid arm plates having first and second apertures extend laterally through opposing faces of the body adjacent opposite ends thereof. The arm plates are disposed in a mutually parallel, laterally spaced apart and aligned relationship. The first apertures are generally concentric and the second apertures are generally concentric. First and second spacers each have a rigid body with opposite ends and a central bushing aperture extending therebetween. The spacers are disposed between the arm plates adjacent opposite ends thereof. The central bushing aperture of the spacers is positioned generally concentrically with the apertures. Also included is a related method for making vehicle suspension links from ultra high strength steel.

Abstract: A system for continuous production of prosthodontic pieces such as crown cores, crowns or the like is provided. The system utilizes turning and milling on a live center CNC machine of a rod stock of material for making the pieces such as Bio-HIP Y-TZP (High Heat and Isostatic Pressure formed ytrium stabilized zirconium dioxide) that is automatically feed into the machine. Multiple pieces are cut one after another from the continuous rod stock. The machine includes a an engraving unit that marks pieces after they are cut with an identification mark such as a certification mark and/or an identification code. In one embodiment, multiple machines are utilized in which each machine is fed a rod stock of a different shape and/or size. A central control unit obtains Cad/Cam specifications for a piece that is to be cut and selects the machine on which the piece is to be made by determining the rod stock that will require the least amount of cutting.

  • Patent number: 7340978
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a rotary tool for chip removing machining with at least one chip flute that extends in the longitudinal direction of the tool. The method involves preparing a mixture of a cemented carbide, cermet or ceramics powder and a carrier, such as a polymer, and placing the mixture in an extruding machine. The mixture is extruded in a feed direction by means of a die to form the diameter of the mixture body. The mixture body passes against a chisel which forms a chip flute in the outer periphery of the mixture body by chip-removing machining. When the chisel is displaced away from the mixture body, a non-fluted shaft portion is formed. By rotating the mixture body while contacted by the chisel, a helical chip flute can be formed. Alternatively, the body could be twisted after a straight flute has been formed, whereupon the flute becomes helical.
