Publication number: 20110280683Abstract: The distribution of load stresses on threads engaged with a standard screw or nut is very unequal. Indeed, the first threads in engagement support a large majority of the load. So if the load is too important, the threads give way and the function is not provided any more by the screw or the nut. In the prior art, threads are known whose depth or pitch varies a lot in order to cause a self-clamping. In particular, the invention aims at optimizing the resistance and the fatigue resistance of the screws by distributing the load at the very best on their threads without causing this self-clamping. It was shown that the control of the pitch variation, within a chosen pitch tolerance, makes it possible to control the stress distribution on the threads. It is possible to determine a different variation for each load case encountered.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2010Publication date: November 17, 2011Inventor: Joachim Galipaud

Patent number: 7854154Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling a rolling process, in which a metal strip is rolled flat by use of at least one roller. It is known from the prior art that the relative position of a neutral point represents a measure of the instantaneous stability of a rolling process. However, traditional methods for calculating the position of the neutral point do not accurately represent the actual properties of metal and therefore have only limited usefulness for predicting the stability of a rolling process. In order to allow better control of a rolling process for rolling a metal strip with regard to the actual behavior of the metal strip, the invention proposes a new method for calculating the relative position of the neutral point, in which in particular the flat yield stress ke and the hydrostatic pressure pNH at the neutral point are incorporated.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2006Date of Patent: December 21, 2010Assignee: SMS Siemag AktiengesellschaftInventor: Hartmut Pawelski

Publication number: 20100242566Abstract: In a multi-stand rolling mill train, a strip successively runs through individual rolling stands. The strip—always as seen in relation to a rolling centre line—is threaded into each of the rolling stands with known respective head offset and inlet-side head pitch, and therefore a strip head emerges with the respective head offset, a respective outlet-side head pitch and a respective outlet-side head curvature. The respective outlet-side head pitch is determined on the basis of respective inlet-side head pitch and pass reduction which takes place in the respective rolling stand. Publication number: 20100031727Abstract: The present invention provides a method of producing a multi-gauge strip which has a thick portion and a thin portion which are continuously disposed along its length. The method of producing multi-gauge strips consisting of a relatively thick portion and a relatively thin portion formed along the widthwise direction while continuously transferring a strip material, is characterized by comprising the steps of: primarily forming a strip material by pressing the upper side thereof so as to make a groove in the lower side of the part where a thin portion is to be formed; and secondly forming the resulted strip by pressing the upper side of the primarily formed strip so as to form the part having a groove into a thin portion and the other part into a thick portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2007Publication date: February 11, 2010Inventor: Choong Yeol Kim

Publication number: 20100018281Abstract: A plug material having a prescribed shape is prepared, the prepared plug material is thermally treated in a heat treatment atmosphere that contains at least 1.0 vol. % oxygen at a heat treatment temperature of at least 950° C. and less than 1050° C. and thus a plug having an oxide scale layer 30 on the surface is manufactured. According to the manufacturing method, pores PO that extend along the surface SF of the plug material are formed under outer scale layer 20 in the oxide scale layer 30, which allows cracks to be more easily propagated in the outer scale layer 20. Therefore, the outer scale layer 20 is more easily peeled off than the conventional one.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 31, 2009Publication date: January 28, 2010Applicant: SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES, LTD.Inventors: YASUYOSHI HIDAKA, Naoya Hirase, Yasuhiro Kouchi

Publication number: 20100005844Abstract: A regulation device (7) for a rolling stand (2) has a force regulator (8) and a position regulator (9) mounted underneath the force regulator. During operation of the regulation device, a rolling force target value (F*) and a rolling force actual value (F) are supplied to the force regulator (8). A regulating distance correcting value (ds1*) is determined by the force regulator (8) from the rolling force target value (F*) and the rolling force actual value (F). The regulating distance correcting value (ds1*), an excentricity compensation value (ds2*), and a regulating distance actual value (s) of a regulating element (6) are supplied to the position regulator (9). A correcting quantity (dq) is determined by the position regulator (9) from the values (ds1*, ds2*, s) supplied thereto and is delivered to the regulating element (6). The regulating distance of the regulating element (6) is changed according to the correcting quantity (dq).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2008Publication date: January 14, 2010Inventors: Hans-Joachim Felkl, Dietrich Wohld

Publication number: 20100005848Abstract: In straightening a duplex stainless steel pipe on a multi-roll pipe straightener, the value of A defined by the formula (1) is set to not more than 2.0% when it is not necessary to improve the mechanical strength of the pipe, and the value of A is set to more than 2.0% but not more than 3% when it is necessary to improve the mechanical strength of the pipe. Thereby, the mechanical strength of the duplex stainless steel pipe is regulated, A=(Di?Hi)/Di??(1) where each of the symbols in the formula (1) indicates the following: Di: the outer diameter (mm) of the pipe at an entry side of an i-th stand in the straightener, and Hi: the gap (mm) between groove bottom portions of the rolls at an i-th stand in the straightener.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2009Publication date: January 14, 2010Inventor: Hajime Osako

Publication number: 20090306810Abstract: The invention relates to rolled material comprising a front and an end. The rolled material is rolled in a roll gap of a roll stand to a first desired measurement, beginning at the front of the rolled material. When the rolled material is being rolled in the roll stand, it is continuously determined by a control computer, which locates the position of the rolled material which is currently in the roll gap. When the position of the rolled material, which is directly in the roll gap, corresponds to a predetermined first modification position of the rolled material, which is arranged between the front of the rolled material and the end of the rolled material, the roller of the rolled material ends at a first desired measurement such that a first step is introduced into the rolled material on the first modification point.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 8, 2007Publication date: December 10, 2009Inventors: Edmund Koh, Dirk Krautwurst, Birger Schmidt
