Abstract: A converter that records or reproduces information to or from a recording medium while making a movement relative to the recording medium is mounted on a slider. The slider has at least a pair of openings on a side face thereof, and airflow generated by the movement relative to the recording medium flows in via one of the paired openings, passes in a vicinity of a surface of the converter other than a surface thereof facing the recording medium, and thereafter flows out via the other one of the paired openings. With this, the ability to cool the converter is improved.

Abstract: An optical pickup actuator for use with a recording medium includes a swing arm pivoting in a tracking direction with respect to the recording medium, a first driving unit pivoting the swing arm, an optical pickup facing the recording medium, an elastic member having one end fixed to the swing arm and a free end portion elastically deformable in a focus direction with respect to the recording medium, wherein the optical pickup is coupled to the free end portion of the elastic member, and a second driving unit deforming and driving the elastic member.

Abstract: A recording medium playback device includes a recording medium accommodation unit, a carriage chassis having a pickup, a turntable and a pickup moving device, and a moving device. The moving device moves the carriage chassis from a standby position to a position between recording mediums accommodated in the recording medium accommodation unit to play back a recording medium. The recording medium loading device loads the recording medium inserted from outside into the recording medium accommodation unit. Also, when the carriage chassis is in the standby position, the pickup is situated on a vertical tangential plane tangent to an outer circumferential edge of the recording medium on the carriage chassis side at a point where the outer circumferential edge is intersected by a loading center line of the recording medium when the recording medium is completely loaded in the recording medium accommodation unit by the recording medium loading device.

Abstract: Provided is an actuator for use in a pickup device, which can improve the quality of the pickup device by reducing a lens distortion even when the frequency of an electromagnetic drive rises beyond a servo band and causes resonance of a lens holder. An adhesive layer (11) is formed between an outer peripheral portion (6A) of an objective lens (6) and a lens holder (4). This adhesive layer (11) has a sufficient thickness dimension enough to absorb deformation of the lens holder (4) even when the lens holder (4) is deformed due to resonance. Even when the frequency at which an electromagnetic drive (9) operates rises beyond the servo band and causes resonance of the lens holder (4), the adhesive layer (11) functions as a buffer so that deformation of the lens holder (4) is less transmitted to the objective lens (6).
