  • Patent number: 11777821
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide for an election procedure, in a high availability (“HA”) environment, for a backup controller to assume operations performed by a master controller in the event that the master controller becomes unreachable. The master controller may be associated with (e.g., provisioned on) the same set of hardware as one or more worker nodes, and may control operation of the one or more worker nodes. The election procedure may be performed based on performance metrics, location, or efficiency metrics associated with candidate backup controllers (e.g., cloud-based backup controllers), including performance of communications between particular backup controllers and the one or more worker nodes.

  • Patent number: 11758075
Abstract: A display system arranged to receive a video stream of frames for display. The frame rate of the video stream is defined by a first clock signal comprising a plurality of first clock reset signals (between frames). A subframe rate of the display system is defined by a second clock signal comprising a plurality of second clock reset signals (between subframes). The second clock reset signals define n subframes for each frame of the video stream. That is, the subframe rate of the display system is n times faster than the frame rate of the video stream. The display system is arranged so that duration of every nth second clock reset signal is different to the duration of the other second clock reset signals such that synchronization between frames of the video stream and subframes of the display device is maintained.

  • Patent number: 11315606
Abstract: A timecoding technique for determining and assigning timecodes for variable frame rate video. Content identified for timecode assignment is decoded, and for sequential frames of the content, portions of timestamps are compared to determine if the frames are from a same time period (e.g., from the same second in time). For a subsequent frame from the same time period, an index is atomically incremented, a timecode generated from a combination of the time period and the index, and the timecode assigned to the frame. For a subsequent frame from a different time period, the index is initialized, a timecode generated from a combination of the different time period and the initialized index, and the timecode assigned to the frame. Accumulated durations of frames may be used in place of timestamps, in some instances.

  • Patent number: 10992377
Abstract: A receiver applies a calibration method to compensate for skew between input channels. The receiver skew is estimated by observing the coefficients of an adaptive equalizer which adjusts the coefficients based on time-varying properties of the multi-channel input signal. The receiver skew is compensated by programming the phase of the sampling clocks for the different channels. Furthermore, during real-time operation of the receiver, channel diagnostics is performed to automatically estimate differential group delay and/or other channel characteristics based on the equalizer coefficients using a frequency averaging or polarization averaging approach. Framer information can furthermore be utilized to estimate differential group delay that is an integer multiple of the symbol rate. Additionally, a DSP reset may be performed when substantial signal degradation is detected based on the channel diagnostics information.

  • Patent number: 8839310
Abstract: Data for one, or more, services is encoded using a scalable channel code and divided for transmission over N transmitters such that reception by a receiver of at least M of the transmitted signals, where M<N, enables recovery of the data by the receiver. In other words, even if reception for any one particular transmitted signal in a defined geographical region is not guaranteed, reception of at least M of the other transmitted signals enables reception of the service(s). Thus, one, or more, services can be offered across an entire geographical area notwithstanding the existence of areas of poor, or no, reception.

  • Patent number: 8806563
Abstract: A system and method for providing video signals wherein the video signals from a single video source may be separately passed over two different transmission paths. Each transmission path includes an encoder, a communications channel and a decoder. The output of each communications path at the decoder provides the video signals and an alarm signal. The alarm signal indicates an error or disruption of the video signals over the corresponding communications path. The outputted video and alarm signals are provided to a video protection switch (VPS) device which provides the video signal from the second transmission path if the alarm signals indicates an error or disruption in the first transmission path. In one embodiment, the VPS has multiple switches, one for each of plural video sources, and a redundant switch and protection ports. The redundant switch and protection ports may be connected to receive the video and alarm signals if one of the switches in the VPS fails.
