Abstract: Systems and methods to provide automatic compensation for frequency attenuation of a video signal transmitted over a cable are provided. Frequency compensation is applied to a received video signal that was transmitted over the cable to thereby produce a compensated video signal. A shape of a horizontal sync portion of the compensated video signal is analyzed. The frequency compensation is automatically adjusted based on the shape of the horizontal sync portion of the compensated video signal. This abstract is not intended to be a complete description of the various embodiments of the present invention.

Abstract: Apparatus for establishing a packet-based connection between a video display equipment (such as a set-top box) having an analog modem and a remote computer. The translation apparatus receives a connection initiation request from the video display apparatus and responsive to the connection initiation request establishes a modem connection with the video display apparatus. The translation apparatus further receives communication data from the video display apparatus via the modem connection and transmits the communication data to the remote computing apparatus via a packet-based network. The translation apparatus can also receive communication data from the remote computer and relay the same to the video display apparatus. The connection can be established upon powering up of the video display apparatus, upon loading of an Interactive TV application or upon other pre-determined event. The connection can be maintained “always-on” or substantially “always-on”.

Abstract: A method for interference-free, centrally controlled switchover from a first to a second program channel in a data transmission system for distributing encoded program data streams to multiple subscribers includes delivering at least two program data streams, each of which is associated with a separate program channel, to a separate, controllable encoder. The program data streams are encoded in the associated encoders. The encoded first and second program data streams are fed into a distribution network. One encoded program data stream is delivered through a routing device to at least one target subscriber. Control parameters are provisioned in a central control device which permits a synchronized activation of the controllable encoders and at least one switching device for interference-free switchover of the program channels. An interference-free switchover from the first to the second program channel is executed.

Abstract: The present invention relates in particular to a method for processing multimedia content memorised in the form of digital data in at least one multimedia unit. This method includes the following steps: reception of a program map table containing at least one indication of a proprietary type of data associated to a packet identification data (PID) as well a flag; reception of a matching table between the flag value and the real type of data; search for the flag values appearing in the program map table PMT received by the multimedia unit; search for the corresponding flag values in the matching table between the flag value and the real type of data; and modification of the program map table by replacing the indication of the proprietary type of data of the program map table with the corresponding real type of data of the matching table. The invention furthermore concerns a method for sending multimedia content in the form of digital data, as well as a multimedia unit for implementing these methods.

Abstract: An optical network system including an OLT and ONUs is provided that can prevent the loss of a multicast signal. When receiving an encryption key generation request from the OLT, the ONU generates an encryption key, and transmits the generated encryption key to the OLT. When receiving a notice of timing from the OLT, the ONU updates the encryption key of a belonging group. When receiving a report message from a STB through the ONU, the OLT analyzes the report message, stores a group that the STB belongs to as well as the ONU in a second table, and transmits the encryption key generation request to the ONU. When receiving the encryption key from the ONU, the OLT further stores the encryption key in the second table, and transmits to the ONU a notice of the timing in which the encryption key is valid.

  • Patent number: 8254755
Abstract: A number of cameras capture a scene and send corresponding video sub-streams to an acquisition PC. Each sub-stream is made up of a plurality of sub-frames. The acquisition PC sends the sub-streams over a network to a playback PC. The playback PC stores each sub-frame in a queue corresponding to an associated sub-stream. For each sub-stream the playback PC calculates a sub-stream average period to produce a plurality of sub-stream average periods. It then calculates a composite average period by averaging the plurality of sub-stream average periods, and calculates a playback frame rate as a reciprocal of the composite average period. The playback PC then reads the sub-frames from their corresponding queue in synchronism with the calculated playback frame rate to display the plurality of sub-streams.
