  • Patent number: 4951261
Abstract: Certain improvements are provided to the mechanical aspects of a tilt mixer which include a novel boggy, adjustable roller arrangement on the drum track which produces an improved distribution of the stresses produced by the extremely heavy rotating drum which reduces the wear on both individual rollers and on the track. An unique dual staggered-tooth gear drive is provided having two spaced sets of teeth each addressed by a pair of motor shaft mounted drive gears on each of a pair of flanking motors in which the teeth of the two sets are staggered or offset by one-half of the gear pitch. This produces a tighter, quieter drive which has been found to reduce gear wear. In addition, a unique torque tube system which possess a great deal more strength than previous drum tilt axles is provided to support the pivotal action of the drum thereby enabling the tilt point of the drum to be moved forward toward the discharge end of the mixers.

  • Patent number: 4890504
Abstract: A new design for helical gearsets is disclosed in which the new gearsets meet all applicable ratings and standards of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), and yet allows very substantial cost savings over prior similar gearsets having an equivalent AGMA rating. The gearsets of the instant invention generally are substantially thinner, and have fewer, but larger, gear teeth than the prior gearsets they replace. A helical gearset of the present invention includes a pinion and a gear, with the pinion and the gear each having a plurality of teeth. Each of these teeth has a helix angle ranging between about 18 degrees and 33 degrees. The pinion and the gear each have a face width and a whole depth, with the pinion having 13 or fewer teeth, and with the pinion and the gear having a face width-to-whole depth ratio of about 4.5 or less. The axial overlap of the gearset ranges between 1.001 and about 1.2.

Abstract: A toy rotating gear accessory which may be used in conjunction with a gyroscopic top. The accessory has a supporting body with a number of apertures passing through it. One or more circular gears may be removably attached to the supporting body by segmented flexible members located on the top surfaces of the gears. The flexible members may be inserted into or slid out of the apertures in the supporting body by simply bending the members. After the gears are attached to the supporting body, they are free to rotate with respect to the body. Protuberances located on the top surface of each gear help to reduce friction between the gears and the supporting body. Supports located on the bottom surfaces of the gears support the accessory on a horizontal surface. During play, a child may insert the rotating portion of a gyroscopic top into a cylindrical bore located on the upper surface of one of the gears. This causes the gear to rotate and the entire accessory to rotate about the center of the gear.

A pinion gear-wheel meshing with the outer gear-wheel is also mounted via a self-aligning bearing disposed concentrically within it. Both self-aligning bearings are mounted on the same support in the form of a cap. The outer gear-wheel and the pinion gear-wheel each have an abutment rim on one side. The contact surfaces thereof roll against each other during normal operation so that the axes of the two gear-wheels are parallel with each other. • Patent number: 4602700
Abstract: A high reliability drive arrangement produces a rate-controlled output displacement and is particularly suited for driving a medical infusion apparatus. Energy for producing the output displacement is derived from a wound spring which, in a preferred embodiment, is coupled to an output shaft by a redundant gearing system. First and second drive gears, and their associated pinions on the output shaft, are rotationally displaced with respect to one another to prevent alignment of potentially defective gear teeth and to align the teeth on one gear with the inter-tooth spacings on the other. The output shaft additionally engages a rate-control arrangement which governs the rate of rotation, and consequently, the rate of the displacement. The possibility of uncontrolled rotation is reduced by providing a safety arrangement having a safety gear plate which has fewer teeth than its associated drive gear.

Abstract: A mobile platform with relatively vertically movable legs, of the off-shore drilling platform type, has a plurality of pairs of opposed racks on each leg, with a row of pinions supported in a pinion carrier for each rack. A link for each pinion carrier is pivoted at one end of the pinion carrier and at the other end to the platform and is disposed in the medial plane of the teeth of the double rack. On the opposite side of the leg from one of these double racks is provided structure for detachably interconnecting the lower end of the leg to the platform for vertical swinging movement of the leg when the leg is in raised position, about an axis parallel to that plane, so that the legs can be swung together at their upper ends when in raised position, into a pyramidal configuration.

Abstract: An extension wrench for transmitting a torque to a fastener with restricted access, where conventional wrenches are not practical to use because of lack of clearance for the angular movement of the conventional wrench. The extension wrench comprises an elongated frame, housing a driven gear at one end, a driving gear at the opposite end and a meshing gear train between the driving and driven gears which transmits torque from the driving gear to the driven gear. The gears have no shafts for support but are supported on their external diametral surfaces by close fitting circular recesses in the elongated frame. The driving and driven gears have multi-faceted recesses to accept (standard square or hexagonal cross section) commercially available tools. The planform of the wrench is substantially rectangular or arcuate. Lubrication means is provided for servicing the wrench.

  • Patent number: 4255952
Abstract: A transmission is disclosed for providing drive to a washing machine agitator and basket to produce slow speed agitator oscillation and relatively high speed rotation of the basket for spin extraction. The transmission input shaft is driven by a drive motor and operated for either reversing or unidirectional rotation to produce the agitator oscillation and basket spin, respectively. The input shaft is drivingly connected to an agitator power shaft through reduction gearing carried in a gear case, while the gear case is secured to the washing machine basket. A clutch-brake arrangement alternatively causes braking of the gear case to the transmission housing or couples the gear case to the input shaft to produce the high speed drive of the basket through the gear case, or alternatively producing a low speed oscillation of the agitator by drive through the reduction gearing.
