And Hand Operator Patents (Class 74/501.6)
  • Publication number: 20010045141
Abstract: The present invention improves the operability of a throttle lever device mounted in the vicinity of a grip at one end of a handlebar of a water jet bike or a snowmobile when the rider rotates the handlebar to the left or right. A front end portion of an operation lever 3 can be moved vertically relative to a bracket 1 for a throttle lever within a certain range, and a throttle cable 6 can be directly or indirectly actuated by virtue of gripping operations of the operation lever 3.

  • Patent number: 6308804
Abstract: A quick connect-disconnect brake hub lock system is disclosed. The locking mechanism is attached to camber tubes of varying degrees of 0° to 12° with wheels that move in and out from the centerline of the wheelchair. Such system of locking must be quick disconnected and reconnected to adapt to the various camber tubes that have varying degrees of angles. Not only do the camber tubes adjust the caster and camber of the wheels, but are adjusted for wheelbase width The brake hub locking mechanism must move with these elements and have the capacity to lock the wheels at whatever position the wheels are in. The sliding mechanism in the handle is completely enclosed to prohibit dirt, which wears such elements quickly. The rotary cam mechanism sliding against the rectangular slider provides the means of pulling the cables straight thus eliminating breaking and thereby locking or unlocking the wheels of the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 6301991
Abstract: A push button actuator including a plunger movable between return and actuating positions, a conduit with an axial bore therethrough and a core slideably disposed within the bore. The first end of the conduit is operatively connected to the plunger and moves substantially with the plunger. The second end of the conduit and the first end of the core are fixed with respect to the movement of the plunger between its return and activating positions. Movement of the plunger from its return position to its actuating position pushes the first end of the conduit away from the first end of the core, causing the second end of the core to be drawn towards the second end of the conduit. The movement of the second end of the core may be used to activate a reaction mechanism operatively connected to the second end of the core.

  • Patent number: 6295888
Abstract: A gear indicator for use on a bicycle is provided remotely from the shift operating device. The gear indicator is coupled to a shift operating device via an indicator cable. The gear indicator basically includes a housing with an indicator member slidably coupled to the indicator cable with in the housing. The location of the indicator member relative to the housing indicates a gear currently engaged by the chain. In the most preferred embodiments, an indicator member is frictionally mounted on the inner wire of the indicator cable for automatically adjusting of the indicator member in the event that the cable becomes elongated or the indicator member becomes misaligned. The housing has a biasing member coupled between one wall of an interior cavity and the first end of the inner wire of the cable indicator for biasing the indicator member to one of its end positions.

  • Patent number: 6205882
Abstract: A tilt release system includes a locking mechanism which retains a tiltable end portion of an elongated steering column of a vehicle in angularly adjusted position. The system includes a bracket mounted on a shroud of the steering column. A pivot pin is mounted on the bracket for rotation about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the steering column. A lever is mounted on a radial arm of the pivot pin. The radial arm of the pivot pin and the lever extend parallel to the steering column in a direction toward the rear of the vehicle when in a retracted position. The lever is connected to the locking mechanism by a cable. The lever pivots downwardly to release the locking mechanism. The lever has a frictional, sliding snap fit on the arm of the pivot pin so that if the lever is rearwardly impacted in a crash in a direction parallel to the axis of the steering column, the lever will slide off the arm toward the steering wheel, thereby preventing tilt release.

  • Patent number: 6199445
Abstract: A bicycle brake cable system has a brake cable coupling arrangement in which a plurality of branches are provided from a single brake lever force application lug. Splitting of the brake cable is performed within the structure of a brake barrel adjuster. The barrel adjuster is provided with a cylindrical cavity that receives a rotatable coupler therewithin. The interface ends of the force transmission cable segments are terminated in the coupler, which is free to rotate relative to the barrel adjuster. As a consequence, the barrel adjuster may be threadably advanced to either increase or decrease brake tension by rotation relative to its threaded connection to the brake lever assembly body. By providing a coupler that is rotatable relative to the barrel adjuster, the barrel adjuster can be rotated in both directions to increase or reduce brake tension.

  • Patent number: 6196357
Abstract: A parking brake mounted selectively to a first position on a floor of an automobile body and a second position in front of the first position on the floor. Fitting hole is formed on the floor at the back of the first position. A pipe member is fitted into the fitting hole and has opening area formed like a substantial flare shape to be expanded forward at their front end. The opening area is opened over the floor of the automobile body. A cable is connected to the parking brake and then extended backward into the inside of the floor via the opening area. Accordingly, even when the parking brake is mounted to either of the first position and the second position, the cable is extended from the upper surface side of the floor to the back surface side thereof through the opening area of the pipe member. Since the opening area of the pipe member has a substantial flare shape, the cable is introduced smoothly into the inside of the floor even though the cables are strung obliquely to the pipe member.

  • Patent number: 6196082
Abstract: A hand lever device for operating a driven member includes a main lever arranged to be pivoted about a first rotational axis, a sub-lever arranged to be pivoted about a second rotational axis and retained in a stationary state at a set pivoted position, a returning member arranged to be rotated about a third rotational axis, and a cable coupled at one end to the driven member and linked at the other end with the main lever and the returning member. When the main lever is pivoted to a set position, it rotates the returning member about the third rotational axis and removes slack from the cable. Pivoting of the sub-lever further rotates the returning member about the third rotational axis to a selected operating position. An accelerating subsidiary lever that is also pivoted about the first rotational axis further pulls, via the returning member, the cable, thereby to further move the driven member.

  • Patent number: 6182524
Abstract: A hand lever apparatus is mountable on a working machine for controlling operation of the working machine. The hand lever apparatus includes a main lever and a magnitude-magnifying mechanism. The magnitude-magnifying mechanism includes a pivot pin, a lever member pivotal about the pivot pin, a pulley, and a connecting cable. The lever member has a shorter arm portion and a longer arm portion, which opposes the shorter arm portion and is operatively connected to a throttle cable of a throttle valve of the working machine. The shorter arm portion is operatively connected to the main lever via the connecting cable so that actuation of the finger-manipulable portion pivots the lever member about the pivot pin and causes the longer arm portion to pull the throttle cable away from the throttle valve and open the throttle valve of the working machine from a minimum-opening idling state.
