Cam, Lever, And Slide Patents (Class 74/53)
  • Patent number: 4453882
Abstract: An assembly apparatus of the pick-and-place type having an elongated reach and including an intermittent motion drive mechanism having an output crank arm operable to stop at selected locations. A pivot plate assembly is rotatably journalled to the intermittent motion drive mechanism about the output thereof and capable of being drivably oscillated thereabout. A linkage slide assembly is carried by the pivot plate and comprises slide rods which are pivotally connected to the output crank arm of the intermittent motion drive mechanism for transmitting rotational oscillation into linear sliding movement. A cam member driven by the input of the intermittent motion drive mechanism and engages cam followers carried by the pivot plate assembly. Rotation of the cam member drivably oscillates the pivot plate thereby providing rotatable oscillation to the linearly reciprocating slide rods.

  • Patent number: 4381739
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, a combination of cylinders, pistons, rods, beams, gears and cams that are used for converting the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotary motion of the drive shaft. One embodiment includes a block member that is fastened to four opposed in-line cylinders, that contain pistons that are attached to the ends of connecting rods and the opposite ends of the rods being attached to roller bearings and to the ends of two rocker beams. The beams, that oscillate in the same plane side by side, each have a separate shaft passing through their centers which are supported by the block member. Located at each of the two ends of the two rocker beams, there is a cam with shaft, that is placed between two of the roller bearings, and these two cams are connected by gears that cause the two cams to rotate in the proper position in relation to each other for the proper engagement of the cams bearing surfaces with the roller bearings.

  • Patent number: 4334437
Abstract: When a machine element having a large mass is given a reciprocating movement, the recurring changes in speed as well as direction of movement require that very great driving forces must be applied, which cause varying stresses on the driving unit. In case the movement path of the machine element is more or less vertical the force of gravity causes extra stresses on the machine element. These difficulties are overcome in accordance with the invention by providing a spring system which on the one hand equalizes the effect of the force of gravity on the machine element and, on the other hand compensates the arising mass forces by absorbing, storing and emitting energy following the movement of the machine element. Hereby the amount of applied driving force is reduced, so that shocks and vibrations occurring during the driving are effectively reduced.

  • Patent number: 4291500
Abstract: A personnel air lock has a transfer chamber that is separated from an atmospheric region by an outside door and is separated from a containment region by an inside door. A single drive shaft couples a motor and three clutch-operable hand wheels to the doors to sequentially open and close one door and then the other. Each door is opened and closed through a door actuator linkage that is coupled to the drive shaft through a respective dual clutch and a respective clutch-actuating mechanism. One door-opening clutch is engaged as a lead screw nut moves through an active range along a timing lead screw, while another door-opening clutch is disengaged as an associated lead screw nut moves through an inactive range along another timing lead screw, so that only one of the doors is coupled to the drive shaft at a time. Each lead screw nut forms part of a slide indicator for indicating the operating position of its associated door.

  • Patent number: 4085622
Abstract: An electric motor for driving a circuit breaker operating handle is connected to the latter by two sets of linkages. The first set of linkages includes a drive arm and a driven arm mounted on fixed spaced centers and interconnected by a cam means. The drive arm is pivoted by connection to the drive motor through gearing and a slip clutch, and mounts a roller entered into a cam slot formed in the driven arm. The second set of linkages consists of a drive link and a main link also mounted on fixed spaced centers with the main link having means for engaging and moving a circuit breaker operating handle. The drive and main links are connected by a roller-slot arrangement, with the roller being positively guided along an arcuate path formed about a center remote from the centers of the links and arms. • Patent number: 4075899
Abstract: This invention relates to operating mechanisms for hydraulic control systems and it is an object of the invention to provide an operating mechanism which is self-locking. The mechanism includes a bar which is slidable in a channel, one face of the bar being cut away to provide two inclined surfaces. Rollers are retained by springs in the spaces between the inclined surfaces and one side of the channel. A plate is also located between the bar and the said side of the channel and a control member serves to displace this plate along the channel. The arrangement is such that, when the plate is displaced in either direction, it pushes a respective one of the rollers towards one end of the bar, thereby allowing it to roll down the inclined surface. On the other hand, if a force is applied to the bar in either direction, a respective one of the rollers will move up the inclined surface and wedge against the side of the channel, thereby locking the bar in position.

  • Patent number: 4046290
Abstract: The dispensing apparatus includes a syringe having a plunger therein and appropriate inlet and discharge openings associated therewith. Two cams are positioned in spaced relationship with a connecting rod mounted to an eccentric of each cam and pivotally to the plunger in the syringe. Motor elements cause rotation of one of the cams with the second cam acting as the fixed pivot point to move the plunger through a first distance. Rotation of the second cam with the first cam acting as the fixed pivot point causes the plunger to move through a second distance. Two liquid volumes are, therefore, dispensed from a single syringe in which one-half cycle of rotation of either cam acts to fill the syringe and the other half cycle acts to discharge the syringe. A multistation dispenser is provided by using a plurality of syringes and connecting two such cam assemblies to a cross bar which causes simultaneous reciprocation of the various plungers associated with the plurality of syringes.
