    Abstract: A prime example of an application for a head with contiguous counterweight is a sucker rod reciprocating pump whose circular arc head is contiguous with a counterweight and is pivotably connected to the pitman arm, crank arm weight, and speed reducer. The pitman arm is substantially horizontal and the crank arm to wrist pin phase angle is about 70-90 degrees. Auxiliary counter weight extends from the head weight on a stinger and the head weights are adjustable. The head weight diameter is either constrained within the circular arc head's outer diameter or can be larger. The upper pitman bearings are outboard on the equalizer which is integral with the head. The center bearing of the head is outboard on the rectangular sampson post. The head counterweight increases permissible load on a speed reducer.

    Abstract: A movable counterweight that can reduce lifting and lowering torque. In one embodiment, a beam pumping unit can have a movable beam counterweight attached to a positioning drive on the beam and can be intelligently positioned to achieve lowest net torque required by one or more of a prime mover and lowest net gear torque in in the speed reducer. Optionally, positioning can be calculated by one or more of monitoring current requirements of the motor and monitoring the beam load with a load cell, which can then be merged with crank position readings and processed into signals sent to the positioning drive, which causes the counterweight to move to the best position along the on the length of the beam to achieve one or more of near to lowest current draw by the prime mover and lowest net gear torque in in the speed reducer.

Counterweight arms on the left and right sides of the wash lane have an axis of rotation which is spaced from the axis of rotation of the brush pivot arms. The counterweight arms are mechanically interconnected with the brush arms by sector gears, an arrangement which permits all of the brush and counterweight arms to lie on one side of the vertical support stanchions. The brush arms are slotted to permit the counterweight arms to pass through them. Brush position relative to the vehicle is varied as a function of brush motor reaction which in turn is a function of brush contact pressure or depth.

The present invention may save power and material to 50% as compared with the conventional beam pumping unit.

    Abstract: The following specification discloses an apparatus and method for providing lifting motion on a substantially symmetrical and compact basis for a pump through a linkage, comprising two members pivotally coupled for relative movement driven by a gear reducer. The first member is driven in a rotational manner with the second member connected thereto being rotationally driven at the same angular velocity, but in the reverse direction thereto. The angular velocity of the members can be controlled by gears, a timing chain and sprockets, or other timed drive means. As the first member rotates with the second member moving around the pivotal connection point at the same angular velocity, a lift point or pump connection is moved in a reciprocating manner to provide lift. The members can be appropriately counterbalanced. The members can also be provided on either side of the gear reducer to provide dual lift points. If a chain is used for timing the members, the chain can be enclosed in a housing with an oil bath.

    Abstract: A walking beam pumping unit is provided for pumping liquid from wells having gas pressure therein. The unit is driven by gas pressure from the well reciprocating the piston of a pneumatic cylinder up and down to swing the walking beam correspondingly and pump the liquid from the well. Gas under pressure is directed from the wellhead through a two-way valve to the opposite ends of the hydraulic cylinder in alternating fashion, so the piston has power strokes in opposite directions. Each power stroke, besides moving the walking beam, serves to recompress the gas used for the preceding power stroke sufficiently to inject it into the sales line. The setting of the two-way valve is controlled by a pneumatic actuator supplied with gas under pressure from the wellhead and having a thimble valve responsive to the up and down movement of the walking beam by means of adjustable stops carried thereon.
