Patent number: 6447629Abstract: A method of digitally printing reactive ink contained in a heat meltable ink layer comprising dyes or pigments or other colorants, using a thermal printer. The ink layer comprises compounds with functional groups capable of reacting with active hydrogen, and compounds with functional groups containing active hydrogen, or functional groups capable of conversion to active hydrogen containing groups. The reactive ink contains one or more blocking agents which prevent initiation of the reaction during thermal printing. An image is thermally printed onto a substrate, at a first temperature, so that the ink is not reacted during the process of printing on to the medium. The image is subsequently transferred or permanently fixed on the substrate by the application of heat and pressure, which removes the blocking agent and reacts the ink, bonding the colorant to the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2000Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Assignee: Sawgrass Systems, Inc.Inventors: Kimberlee Thompson, Barbara Wagner, Ming Xu

Patent number: 5580410Abstract: A dispersed dye sublimation imaging method of a substrate includes a pre-conditioning step, before the substrate is imaged, which uses controlled heat and humidity. The pre-conditioning step, by raising the surface energy levels of the substrate and thermally stabilizing the substrate before pressured contact in the imaging zone, allows for more precise control of dye sublimation during image. Pre-conditioning also allows: the use of higher temperature dyes; the use of higher temperatures and shorter dwell times in the imaging zone; and/or the use of lower imaging temperatures. The pre-conditioning also provides for greater migration and penetration of the dispersed dye into the surface of the substrate being imaged. The shorter dwell time and thermally stabilized pre-conditioned substrate also reduces movement between the substrate and dye carrier device, which provides for increased resolution of the imaged substrate.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Delta Technology, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth Johnston

Patent number: 5437755Abstract: A process for decorating the top portion of the ski including a step of assembling and affixing an external, thick layer of transparent plastic material onto an opaque internal layer. Prior to the assembly step, the first decoration is transferred onto the external surface of the external layer and a second internal decoration, different from the first, is transferred onto one of the surfaces connecting the internal layer with the external layer. The invention enables an economical production of varied and easily interchangeable decorations.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1994Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Assignee: Salomon S.A.Inventors: Pierre-Yves Lavorel, Alain Grenetier
