  • Patent number: 6237446
Abstract: A wrench adapter assembly is provided that can adapt a conventional manual or power wrench to be used to grasp and rotate a smooth-surfaced cylindrical object. The wrench adapter assembly includes of a pivoting hook, a biasing means for the hook, a wrench adapter with a multisided flange for engaging the jaw of a wrench and a concave jaw. The pivoting hook is in circumferential alignment with the concave jaw so as to receive a smooth-surfaced cylindrical article. The flange shoulder has sides that match up with the sides of the jaw of the wrench. Once the wrench adapter assembly is secured within the wrench jaw, it may receive and hold a smooth-surfaced cylindrical article. The wrench adapter rotates with the jaw of the wrench. Thus, the wrench may be used in combination with the wrench adapter assembly to rotate smooth-surfaced cylindrical articles.

  • Patent number: 6227078
Abstract: An engine oil filter socket wrench with built-in spillage cup contains the oil that normally spills out when an oil filter is removed from an engine. The device consists of a smaller first cylinder for gripping an oil filter base and a larger second cylinder built concentrically around and above the smaller cylinder and forming a cup shaped reservoir capable of containing oil spillage. Protuberances projecting radially inward from the inside surface of the larger cylinder terminate in loose contact at the filter surface to provide alignment of the device about the filter and to provide a second means to grip the filter. The larger cylinder can be constricted of flexible material capable of being squeezed by hand to create a frictional grip on the oil filter body for the purpose of initially loosening the filter from its mount.

  • Patent number: 5931064
Abstract: An insertion tool for inserting a multi-strand twisted cable into a blind mine tunnel roof bore hole includes a drive mechanism on one end thereof for fitting into a conventional bolting machine, and a socket on the opposite end thereof for receiving therein the bare end of a multi-strand twisted cable. The insertion tool socket is formed in the reverse pattern of the circumferential configuration of a conventional seven-strand twisted steel cable, having six essentially semi-cylindrical elongate and parallel arcuate channels formed therein in a spiral identical to that of the outside surfaces of respective cable strands of the twisted cable. The insertion tool is used by inserting, with a slight twisting action in the direction of the cable strand spiral, the bare end of the multi-strand steel twisted cable into the insertion tool socket mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5361654
Abstract: A tool for the installation and removal of an elongated member such as a spark plug, with threads extending from an end through at least a part of the length of the member, takes the form of a tube, open at both ends, made of stiffly resilient expansible material, and a liner in the tube, fixed against movement relative to the tube. The liner is made of a compressible resilient material and has an axially extending passage, opening at both ends of the tube. The passage is defined by a cylindrical wall of the compressibly resilient material and is of a transverse cross-sectional size to permit insertion of the elongated member against the compressive bias of the liner, but to grip the elongated member when it is inserted to inhibit relative rotary motion of the elongated member and tube. The material of which the tube is made is sufficiently resilient to expand when the elongated member is forced into the liner passage, but stiff enough to maintain the passage substantially straight.
