  • Patent number: 9690253
Abstract: A ratchet mechanism of the present disclosure includes a first ratchet gear, a second ratchet gear and a compression coil spring. The compression coil spring applies a force acting toward the first ratchet gear to the second ratchet gear. In the second ratchet gear, a cylindrical boss is formed. The center of gravity of the compression coil spring is arranged on the side of one end portion with respect to the center of the compression coil spring in a longitudinal direction. The compression coil spring is inserted into a boss from the side of the one end portion, and thus the center of gravity of the compression coil spring is arranged on the side of the first ratchet gear with respect to the tip end of the boss.

  • Patent number: 5282303
Abstract: A hand-held press is provided for installing fasteners in a sheet of fabric. The press has a frame with a pair of arms forming a C-shaped recess into which the fabric may be inserted. The frame has a handle extending outwardly from a press axis with a lever pivotally attached to the frame adjacent the handle enabling a user to squeeze the handle and lever together. A shaft is oriented along the press axis and slidably cooperates with the frame. An advance sear on the shaft is engaged by the lever to cause the shaft to incrementally advance when the lever is squeezed with the handle. A retract sear cooperates with the shaft and the frame to prevent the shaft from retracting. A pair of die elements attached to the frame and the shaft facilitate the installation of fasteners in a sheet of fabric.

  • Patent number: 5062323
Abstract: A plug and installation tool for repairing punctures in vehicle tires mounted on motor vehicles. The plug is a generally cylindrical part made of a rubber material with enlarged end portions and an interconnecting cylindrical shank portion. One of the enlarged end portions is a cylindrical head portion and has a circumferential groove for engaging the insertion tool. The other end portion is a spherical tail portion. In the first aspect of the invention an assembly comprised of the plug and a rigid core disposed on the axis of the plug is mounted on the installation tool, elongated by the tool and inserted in a puncture. In the second aspect of the invention, the rigid core is installed in the plug after the plug is inserted into the puncture. When the plug is installed in a puncture it has a generally "hourglass" shape with sealing surfaces in the puncture and at the inner and outer ends of the puncture.

  • Patent number: 4930377
Abstract: There is disclosed in the specification a tire repair device and kit for inserting plugging material typically in the form of rubber coated twisted strands into a tire puncture. The device and kit is provided with one or more interchangeable tools such as a strand inserting needle, an awl, a knife, and screwdriver, said tools being interchangeably joinable with the handle of said device. In operation the awl is first joined with said handle and used to enlarge the puncture, if necessary. The inserting needle tool is then joined to the handle. The plug material is threaded into the open eye of the needle and inserted into the puncture. The inserting motion is limited by a stop bushing captive on said needle tool so that the ends of the strands are not drawn into the puncture. The stop also limits the withdrawal of the needle.

  • Patent number: 4031688
Abstract: A technique for controlling the pressure in a closed, sealed article, such as a tennis ball or the like. A needle having a sharp, forward, outer end adapted to puncture the article includes a passage in its rear end which terminates in a flow orifice which opens through the side of the needle, between the ends of the needle. Means are provided at the outer end of the needle to carry a resilient sealing plug. The needle may be attached to a syringe or other appropriate means for injecting or withdrawing air from the article. The article is punctured by the plug-carrying needle which is inserted to expose the flow orifice interiorly of the article and to locate the plug within the article. Air is introduced or withdrawn from the article as desired. When the desired pressure level is reached, the needle is withdrawn.
