Abstract: A fastener holding spanner comprises a spanner head defining an aperture capable of engaging during use with a correspondingly-sized nut or bolt head of a fastener, with a clearance there-between, and at least one arm extending from the spanner head. During use of the spanner one of the at least one arms is capable of engaging with an abutment surface adjacent to a nut or bolt head of a fastener engaged by the spanner head upon rotation of the nut or bolt head under applied torque. The aperture comprises a plurality of internal faces, at least two of which are engaging faces. The engaging faces are substantially flat and are arranged to engage with flat faces of a nut or bolt head engaged by the spanner during use. At least one of the internal faces of the aperture is non-engaging with the nut or bolt head during use, the at least one non-engaging face located in between the at least two engaging faces.

  • Patent number: 7062996
Abstract: The automatically adjusting gripping device grips a workpiece ever more tightly as greater torque is applied thereto. The device has a base plate having a linear guide slot or series of radial guide slots, with a pair of jaws residing in each slot. A torque application component rotates relative to the base plate, and has a cam track of varying diameter in which the heads of the jaws ride. Rotation of the torque application component and cam track relative to the base plate causes the jaw heads to slide along the track due to the jaws being captured within the base plate slot, thereby changing the span between jaws as the cam track diameter varies at the jaw head locations. The gripping device is useful as an adjustable wrench but may be applied to other environments as well, e.g., as an automatic gripping and releasing device in conveyor systems, etc.

Abstract: An adjustable head wrench with an elongated generally straight offset handle and a stationary jaw fixed to the handle. A movable jaw rides in a bore hole and slot within the stationary jaw with a worm gear. The worm gear in turn fits into a bore hole in the movable jaw and engages internal teeth of the movable jaw with its outer helical gears. At front end of the worm gear threads mount an external adjuster outside of the stationary jaw and wrench head. This rotatable adjuster is used to rotate the worm gear which causes the distance between the object engaging surfaces of the stationary and movable jaws to vary.
