Abstract: A threaded fastener capable of being reduced in size and weight. A pair of side wall surfaces of each of six radially outwardly projecting, torque transmitting portions lie on straight lines passing through the center line in a cross section perpendicular to the center line so as to transmit torque through the side wall surface, whereby the direction of a surface orthogonal force N applied to a force-applied point P by a wrenching tool coincides with the direction of an effective wrenching force F. This arrangement reduces an operation force required for rotating the wrenching tool and accordingly the load acting on each of the torque transmitting portions, in comparison with a conventional hexagonal head. That is, it is possible to reduce the diameter of the head portion of the threaded fastener and the size and weight of the head portion, while avoiding deformation of the side wall surfaces through which the torque is transmitted.

The screw can be applied in stabilizing bone, and the tool can apply sufficient torque though it is of a relatively small overall size. Tangs or fingers are flexible on the tool and they flex toward and away from the cavity and they hold the screw in the tool until the screw is embedded into bone or other host object.

  • Patent number: 6450069
Abstract: A multi-purpose wrench (10) used to open valves (V) on gas cylinders of various sizes. An elongate handle (12) has a ratchet formed at one end (12a). A socket (14) mounts on the ratchet and has a plurality of openings (20a,22a, 20b,22b) formed on opposite surfaces (18a, 18b) for engaging the stem of a valve (V3, V4) to open and close the valve. A disc (26) is attached to a ratchet (24) adjacent the other end of the handle to open gas cylinders of a different size. The disc includes a plurality of pins (28) which engage differently shaped wheels of valves (V1, V2) the wrench to open the valve when rotated.

  • Patent number: 6423222
Abstract: A spin-on oil filter cartridge has a can with a gripping portion at the free end comprising seven concave, arcuate flutes which are spaced from one another. The seven arcuate flutes provide an ergonomically configuration which facilitates removal of the filter cartridge by hand. If the filter cartridge is too tightly engaged to be removed for replacement purposes, a tool in the form of a socket wrench is provided wherein the tool includes a socket portion which compliments the gripping portion of the filter cartridge. The tool further includes a knob fixed thereto which provides increased hand purchase which facilitates rotation of the spin-on oil filter cartridge.

Abstract: A wrench used to tighten and loosen mechanicals on electrical jumper cables without damaging the mechanical. The innovative tool includes a head portion having first and second work surfaces for engaging a mechanical's grip, said first and second work surfaces arranged about an imaginary axis of rotation and substantially parallel to said axis, and a handle secured to the head for allowing manual manipulation of the present invention so as to cause the mechanical grip to rotate. When the innovative wrench head is turned in a predetermined direction, the two work surfaces provide substantial surface-to-surface contact with the mechanical grip being turned, thereby increasing rotational torque while reducing grip deformation and damage.

  • Patent number: 6298754
Abstract: A wrench tool suitable for use by firefighting personnel. The tool has an elongated handle, and a spanner part at a first end of the handle. The spanner part has a projecting claw for operatively engaging a pin on the circumference of a pipe or a hose coupling ring to be rotated by the tool. A wrench part, at a second end of the tool handle opposite the first end, has jaws arranged for adjustable relative movement to grip an object to be turned by the tool. The range of movement of the jaws includes a position at which the jaws are set to receive and safely grip an outside levering tool for producing increased leverage when operating the spanner part of the tool.
