With Fulcrum-carrying Member Patents (Class 81/408)
  • Patent number: 8677865
Abstract: A hand operated gripping tool includes a movable jaw, a fixed jaw, a first cam associated with the movable jaw, a pivotal handle connected with the movable jaw and a second cam associated with the pivotal handle. The first cam is spaced from the fixed jaw by a first variable distance, and the second cam is spaced from the fixed jaw by a second variable distance, with the first distance maintained greater than the second distance. The jaws are cooperable to define a variable size space for receiving a workpiece and the cams are operable to cause the jaws to grip the workpiece positioned in the variable size space. The cams are arranged such that rotational movement of the second cam caused by operation of the pivotal handle causes the movable jaw to pivot on the first cam to grip the workpiece that is positioned in the variable size space.

  • Patent number: 8056446
Abstract: The invention is a ratcheting open ended wrench comprising a main body having an elongate primary handle portion and an upper stationary jaw element, a secondary handle opposed to the primary handle portion and having a binding surface at the top being pivotally attached to the main body, a tertiary handle pivotally attached to the main body having a gear element cooperating with a geared end of a connecting rod, the opposing end pivotally and slidably fixed to a lower movable jaw assembly, the lower movable jaw assembly being spring biased against the upper stationary jaw and positioned within a main body guide slot so that the secondary handle binding surface contacts the lower jaw assembly and activation of the secondary handle clamps the lower movable jaw assembly relative to the upper stationary jaw. Activation of the tertiary handle counteracts the lower movable jaw spring bias to open the jaws.

  • Patent number: 7497015
Abstract: A scissors-action tool whose blades or jaws are urged apart by a spring and which includes an adjustable member restricting opening movement to a limited blade or jaw separation angle during normal use of the tool, but allowing the blades or jaws to be opened to a wider angle when the adjustable member is moved to a rearward position. The adjustable member may be a rocker including an elongated hole permitting the rocker to be moved rearwardly from a normal position of engagement with a rocker pivot pin.

  • Patent number: 7255027
Abstract: A plier device includes two elongated handle member each having an intermediate neck portion formed between a jaw and a handle, an elongated channel and a number of teeth are formed in one of the handle members, and an orifice is formed in the other handle member for pivotally engaging a shaft of a pawl member which includes one or more teeth for engaging with the teeth of the handle member. A spring member is attached to one of the handle members and has a leg engaged with the pawl member and the other leg engaged with the handle member for biasing the tooth of the pawl member to engage with the teeth of the handle member. A frame may solidly anchor the pawl member to the handle members.

  • Patent number: 6337120
Abstract: A gasket is provided on a porous sheet in one body. The gasket is thin and has an excellent sealability, and processability when the gasket is built in layer-built fuel cells. The gasket is made of liquid rubber and has a hardness not more than 60 (JIS A). Liquid perfluoro rubber and liquid silicone rubber is preferably used for the gasket. And gasket can be made by injection molding.

  • Patent number: 6311588
Abstract: Self-adjusting pliers including first and second members each handle portions and jaw portions. The first member defines a rack having a plurality of teeth. A rack engagement structure is mounted to an intermediate portion of the second member and positioned adjacent the rack. During initial manual movement of the handle portions towards one another, the rack engagement structure travels in disengaged, spaced relation with respect to the rack. Then, after the jaw portions engage opposing sides of a workpiece, continued movement of the handle portions towards one another causes movement of the rack engagement structure toward the rack until the rack engagement structure engages the rack. The rack engagement structure has a movement restrictive portion being cooperable with the rack so as to limit the movement of the rack engagement structure toward the rack when the jaw portions contact one another in the absence of a workpiece therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5832793
Abstract: A unique and novel adjustable wrench including a fixed handle (10) and handle jaw (10C), a movable handle (12), pivoting about a dog (16) and assembled to a slide (18) by a pair of links (24). The wrench features parallel jaws and provides a significant mechanical advantage by multiplying and transferring the operator's force to an object to be held and/or turned. A set of unique holding plates (40 & 42), in the shape of an `U`, attached to fixed handle jaw (10C) and sliding jaw (18) by means of mounting bolts (44 & 46). Holding plates (40 & 42) may be removed and/or reversed, this enables the wrench to be adapted to various work situations including rough plumbing, soft metal, and reverse thread.

  • Patent number: 5140876
Abstract: A pair of pliers has two opposingly curved halves to form jaws on one end and handles on the other end. One of the halves includes a primary, fised pivot blot, and a secondary, fixed pivot lug, adjacent to the pivot bolt. The other half has an opening in the pivot area with a recess on one side to hold the fixed pivot; the other side being arced about the recess and adjacent to, but just clearing the pivot lug. A spring on the other half holds the fixed pivot in the recess for basic opening and closing of the jaws of the pliers, but when the jaws engage a solid object, the fixed pivot comes out of its recess, and the pivot lug, which is toothed, engages the adjacent portion of the arced side of the opening, which is also toothed, to shift the fulcrum of the pliers from the fixed pivot on the one side of the opening to the pivot lug on the other side.

Abstract: An instrument for holding and chipping a bond has a pair of elongated curved handles spaced apart at one end, and pivotally connected at other ends to ends of flat elongated jaws. Central portions of the jaws are pivotally connected together. Outer ends of the jaws and handles normally flare outwardly and are held by outwardly biased leaf springs secured to the handles. The handles pivot on a free floating disk disposed in slots formed in facting edges of the handles. The outer ends of the jaws are formed with interfitting teeth and recessed having side walls formed with sharp cutting edges.
