Abstract: A screw head and screwdriver for use in combination are provided to reduce the occurrence of stripping a screw head during tightening or removing the screw. The head slot employs slot walls that indent in some portion of the wall, the indent portion forming a ledge under which the screwdriver tip may be retentively captured thereby preventing the tip from lifting from the screw slot and stripping the screw head. The screw slot and driver also generally employ a tapered form, such that the slot widens from a central portion out to the outer circumferential edges. The narrow portion of the slot matching in form a narrow portion of the driver tip such that the driver tip tends not to slide off the screw head during use. • Patent number: 7225710
Abstract: A driver has a tip that enables it to engage each one of a conventional hexagonal-head fastener and a conventional lobed-head fastener. The tip includes alternating flutes and crests. The crests are substantially flat to engage straight walls of a hexagonal-head. The flutes engage the lobed head of the fastener. A socket-type driver engages each type of conventional fastener. A fastener and a pair of socket-type fasteners have alternating flutes, which can be engaged by a conventional lobed-head driver, and crests or sidewall surfaces, which can be engaged by a conventional hexagonal-head driver.

  • Patent number: 7207247
Abstract: An L-shaped wrench with a handle and a shank attached to a hammer head. The hammer head may be hexahedral with the handle and shank attached to adjacent flats with opposing flats forming impact surfaces for applying an axial force along the handle or shank with an impact device such as a hammer. The remaining two flats provide torque surfaces for application of a secondary force such as a wrench. The handle and shank may be detachable from the hammer head and the hammer head may be relieved for clearance between the flats to which the handle and shank are attached.

  • Patent number: 7194935
Abstract: A hexagonal driving tool includes a socket having a reception hole and the socket is connected with a hand tool. A hexagonal driving rod has a first end inserted in the reception hole and a groove is defined longitudinally in the hexagonal driving rod. A recess is defined transversely in the hexagonal driving rod and communicates with the groove. An elongate pawl piece is received in the groove and a first spring is located between the pawl piece and an inner surface of the recess. The first spring pushes one of two sides of the pawl piece out from the groove so as to be engaged with a rounded corner of a rounded hexagonal recess in the head of a bolt or screw.

  • Patent number: 7188554
Abstract: A drive system for a surgical fastener is composed of a drive tool with a drive tip that mates closely with the recess formed in the head of a threaded fastener. The surgical fastener has a head with a quadrilobe fitting therein which closely mates with the quardilobe tip of the tool. The cooperating drive surfaces align the fastener and tool coaxially and produce four point contact equidistant about the circumference of said fastener significantly reducing angular excursions of the fastener during placement in the bone.

  • Patent number: 7174810
Abstract: A selective one-way tool includes a handle, a transmission positioned in the slot, a bit-engaging element installed on the handle and a mode-switching ring rotationally installed on the handle. The handle includes a mandrel defining a slot. The transmission includes a first pawl, a second pawl and a spring compressed between the first and second pawls. The bit-engaging element engages with both of the first and second pawls in a non-directional mode, engages with only the first pawl in a first directional mode, and engages with only the second pawl in the second directional mode. The mode-switching ring includes two ribs on an internal side for pushing the second pawl into the slot in the first directional mode, for pushing the first pawl into the slot in the second directional mode, and for not pushing the first and second pawls into the slot in the non-directional mode.

  • Patent number: 7174811
Abstract: An asymmetrical wrench and fastener system comprising radially extending splines having opposing surfaces whose inner ends are inclined by different amounts with respect to a radius intersecting the respective inner ends to alter the torque between the tightening and loosening directions. This configuration makes it either easier or harder to loosen the fastener than it was to tighten it, depending on the amount the opposing surfaces of the splines are inclined.

  • Patent number: 7146885
Abstract: Disclosed is a sectionless length adjustment mechanism for the shank of a tool (e.g., screwdriver) and for releasably locking the shank in any one of a plurality of positions relative to the handle. In one embodiment the mechanism comprises a sleeve having a front flared end, a spring anchored in the sleeve, a shell including two opposite bars on its surface, and a nut secured to the sleeve. Pulling the shank forward will move the bars outward forward along the flared end to expand the spring. Pushing the shank rearward will move the bars inward rearward along the flared end to compress the spring. Stopping sliding will lockingly engage the shank. Loosening the nut will move the shell forward and expand the spring until the shank is free to slide with the bars disposed at a mouth of the flared end and disengaged from the shank.
