  • Patent number: 6233769
Abstract: A hand tool such as a knife or a combination tool includes multiple blades, each independently rotatable on a common axle between a closed position within a handle of the tool and an open position extending from the handle. Each blade is positively but releasably locked into its open position. Those blades which remain closed are biased toward the closed position when the opened blade is locked into position and also as it is opened and closed. A single locking, releasing, and biasing mechanism serves all of the blades in one handle.

  • Patent number: 6223627
Abstract: An anti-shock structure of a hammer handle comprises a main rod, a handle sleeve, an elastic element, and a plug. A longitudinal storing slot is disposed inside the handle sleeve. The elastic element is disposed in the longitudinal storing slot. One end of the elastic element has a U-shaped portion. The elastic element's cross-sectional width is less than the longitudinal storing slot's cross-sectional width. So, during the swinging movement before knocking, the U-shaped portion of the elastic element will resist the reactive force so as to ensure the excellent holding effect. After the knocking, an opened portion of the elastic element will absorb the shock. That is, both excellent holding effect and the anti-shock function are achieved.

  • Patent number: 6189217
Abstract: A hand-held power saw (10) having a housing (112) which includes a blade storage chamber (124) and a retaining member (130) for holding at least one spare saw blade (26) within the storage chamber. In one embodiment the retaining member comprises a rubber component having a pair of arms (136). Each arm has a groove (138) formed therein which holds a ball bearing (140). The ball bearings are biased into contact with one another once the retaining member is assembled into a housing portion of the tool within the storage chamber. When a spare saw blade is inserted into the storage chamber a portion thereof is urged between the ball bearings. The resiliency of the rubber arms causes the ball bearings to grasp the spare saw blade and retain it within the storage chamber. The opposite end of the blade engages a foam-like member (150) held within a recess (124c) at the opposite end of the storage chamber which prevents the blade from rattling within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5842394
Abstract: A multiple bit screwdriver includes a tubular handle body with a first end portion, an opposite second end portion and an axial bore formed through the first and second end portions. A plurality of tool bits are inserted successively into the axial bore via the first end portion such that the tool bits are rotatable with the handle body, and are removable successively from the axial bore via the second end portion. Each of the tool bits has a bit portion and a connecting sleeve on one end of the bit portion. The connecting sleeve has an axial blind hole formed therein to permit extension of the bit portion of an adjacent tool bit therein. First and second spring units are respectively provided on the first and second end portions and extend radially inward into the axial bore.

  • Patent number: 5819612
Abstract: An ergonomic, improved multiple bit storing hand tool that provides storage capacity for a large number of bits while minimizing bulk material volume and hand gripping member cross sectional area so as to provide for increased gripping ability. The improved multiple bit storing hand tool includes a non-cylindrical, elongated, hand gripping portion having corners and a central axis substantially parallel to a plurality of substantially parallel corner axes of the corners. In a variant, the corner axes are generally lobular and include epicycloidal portions thereof. Each of the substantially parallel corner axes are substantially equidistant from the central axis and substantially equidistant one from another. A plurality of elongated storage compartments having compartment axes are substantially parallel to the parallel corner axes and the central axis.

  • Patent number: 5810525
Abstract: A tool holding assembly for placement around a handle portion and/or a body portion of a portable hand drill. The assembly includes a first elastic sleeve and a second elastic sleeve which are adapted for placement over the handle portion of the drill. The second sleeve partially overlaps the first sleeve, thereby providing additional tension to retain drill bits and other tools against the handle portion of the drill. The assembly may also include a third elastic sleeve which is adapted for placement over the body portion of the drill, and which is particularly disposed for retaining an elongate shank of a drill bit or the like. Together the various sleeves allow drill accessories such as drill bits, drill gimlets, and related tools to be retained upon the drill by tension of the elastic sleeves against the drill. The elastic sleeves are formed of any resilient material, however, rubber is preferred.

Abstract: A tool includes a hub for slidably receiving a shaft which includes one or more projections. A driving stem has a number of internal teeth for engaging with the projection of the shaft. A spring may bias the projection of the shaft to engage with the internal teeth of the driving stem for positioning the driving stem. The driving stem is allowed to rotate about the shaft when the projection of the shaft is disengaged from the internal teeth by depressing the shaft against the spring.
