Multiple Drive Or Driven Means Patents (Class 81/57.22)
  • Patent number: 6722232
Abstract: A manually-powered drive device includes a drive train substantially disposed in a hollow housing. A laterally sliding transmission shaft extending laterally in an intermediate frame portion of the housing includes first and second circumferential recesses. A transmission selector spring flexes and removably slidably couples within the first circumferential recess or the second circumferential recess as the transmission shaft laterally slides between alternate positions, thereby selecting the desired rotational direction for manipulating fasteners. Another manually-powered drive device includes a first drive assembly extending coaxially in the barrel portion of the housing and a second drive assembly extending in the intermediate frame portion of the housing between any acute angle and any obtuse angle to the first drive assembly.

  • Patent number: 6679721
Abstract: The present invention is a module insertion tool for anchoring a module to a motherboard. The module insertion tool has two drivers on either side of the tool that operate independently of each other, and help in anchoring the module to the motherboard. There is a knob built into the tool. The knob is connected to a chain that turns the drivers until a preset torque value is reached. The two drivers built into the tool are independent of each other and each driver turns until the preset torque value has been reached. This preset torque value can be obtained by either manually turning the knob, or by attaching an electric source to a socket built into the knob. There are three locators on a bottom plate of the tool that help in the alignment of the module to the tool, and there are locking pins on each driver that hold the module stationary while the module is being anchored to the motherboard by the drivers of the tool.

  • Patent number: 6668685
Abstract: A device for simultaneously removing all of the lug nuts on a vehicle's wheel, thereby reducing the amount of time required to remove the wheel from the vehicle. The device has multiple sockets that fit over each lug nut. Each socket is turned by a lug gear and all of the lug gears are turned by a single central gear. The central gear has a hole or slot in its center for receiving a hand tool or power tool that provides the rotational force. The lug gears are positioned around the circumference of the central gear and the teeth of the lug gears engage with teeth of the central gear. An outer ring gear surrounds all of the lug gears providing an inward pressure that maintains the connection between the teeth of the lug gears and the central gear. When the central gear is rotated each of the lug gears rotate in an opposite direction thereby allowing each lug nut to be turned simultaneously.

Abstract: A multiple spindle tool has a single input drive motor and a plurality of output spindles. A gear arrangement including a central gear and three planet gears and three slip clutches are positioned between the drive motor and the output spindles. Each of the slip clutches drives a respective output spindle until a predetermined torque, set at respective clutches, is reached. Each of the slip clutches receives input rotation and torque from respective ones of the planet gears.

  • Patent number: 6543314
Abstract: A torque wrench assembly system comprising a housing, a transfer shaft positioned in the housing, a first drive gear arrangement coupled to the transfer shaft; at least a second drive gear arrangement slidably coupled to the transfer shaft; a first drive shaft coupled to the first drive gear arrangement and having an end extending from the housing; a second drive shaft coupled to the second drive gear arrangement and having an end extending from the housing; a torque generating device that is coupleable to the transfer shaft, to the first drive gear arrangement and/or the first drive shaft; wherein the distance between the first drive shaft and the second drive shaft is slidably adjustable by the slidability of the at least second drive gear arrangement along the transfer shaft; and wherein the coupling of the first drive gear arrangement and the at least second drive gear arrangement via the transfer shaft provides that the first and second drive shafts can provide an at least essentially equal torque.

  • Patent number: 6305245
Abstract: A housing has five sockets extending beyond the front face thereof, spaced to simultaneously engage the lug nuts securing a wheel to a vehicle. Each socket has secured to a peripheral portion a satellite gear that engages a universal gear. The universal gear has a drive surface allowing it to be driven in a conventionally opposite direction to simultaneously remove the lug nuts and then driven in the opposite rotational direction by a pneumatic wrench to simultaneously secure the lug nuts securing the replacement wheel to the vehicle, greatly reducing the time needed for a wheel/tire change. This tool has the potential for greatly reducing the time required for a pit stop in stock car racing giving a huge advantage to the team so equipped.

  • Patent number: 6253644
Abstract: A torque wrench interfaces with a one or more fasteners intended to be tightened or loosened and includes a main housing with two or more preset torque devices which establishes a torque range insuring that the fasteners will not be tightened neither too tight nor too loose. A drive shaft protrudes from the main housing and rotatably drives a drive gear disposed in the main housing in which when rotated, drives the geared torque devices positioned on either side of the drive gear. A helical spring connects two torque pistons and adjustably applies a regulated torque to the driven torque piston in response to movement of the drive torque piston. The torque pistons are in a torque piston casing and are connected by irregular opposing surfaces urged together by the helical spring that allow for the torque pistons to rotate in relation to each other in one rotational direction only and allows the preset torque device to be enabled only when tightening a fastener in the clockwise direction.

  • Patent number: 6189417
Abstract: A machine is disclosed for assembling a metal picture frame having mitred frame sections connected to each other by L-shaped corner pieces which have legs extending into receiving channels within the frame sections and screws in each leg accessible from the back of the frame through an elongated slot in the frame sections. The machine comprises a base on which a corner of the frame can be supported, and a pair of guide rails on the base for engaging the elongated slots to two adjacent frames sections. A corner brace is provided for securing a corner edge of the frame in a fixed position. Two screw drivers extend through the base at a position in which they are aligned with the corner piece screws when the slots of two frame sections engage the guide rails and the corner edge of the two frame sections engages the brace. A motor attached to the base plate rotates the screw drivers to tighten the screws and thereby fasten the frame sections together.
