  • Patent number: 5881616
Abstract: A cam mounting gear having a number of teeth smaller by one than the number of teeth of a main gear which is driven to rotate is disposed in parallel to the main gear, and a cam having a tapered face formed thereon such that the thickness thereof gradually increases along an inner periphery thereof is disposed on an inner wall of the cam mounting gear. A main holder having a cutter blade and a bearing which contacts with the cam is supported for rotation on a flat face portion of the main gear. As rotation of the main gear is transmitted to the cam mounting gear via a pinion, the bearing of the main holder is driven to roll on the tapered face of the cam, and thereupon, the cutter blade is displaced in a direction toward the center of the apparatus to cut a cutting object pipe located at a central location of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5813299
Abstract: A rotary tubing cutter enables automatic tube cutting without requiring manual rotation of the cutter. The apparatus includes a motor driven gear assembly including a blade gear and a feed gear. The feed gear includes a plurality of cam slots that receive pins attached to the cutting blades of the blade gear. Rotation of the feed gear relative to the blade gear effects feeding of the cutting blades. The apparatus is particularly useful for fuel rod tubing of nuclear fuel assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5603250
Abstract: Relatively thick-walled (or solid) tubular members may be cut by a cutting tool which includes an annular frame having a rotatable ring which is adapted to surround the tubular member to be cut. A pair of cutting assemblies are radially connected to the rotatable ring of the annular frame so as to be orbitally movable about the tubular member to be cut in response to rotation of said rotatable ring. The radial cutting assemblies carry a bit subassembly (preferably a pair of generally radially opposed cutting assemblies) for cutting said tubular member. A drive/indexing assembly is provided so as to rotate the rotatable ring (and thereby cause the radial cutting assemblies to move orbitally about said tubular member), and indexing the bit radially toward a central longitudinal axis of the tubular member in response to orbital movement of the radial cutting assembly.

  • Patent number: 5386743
Abstract: In a turret indexing device, a coupling containing three gear members is employed in a turret indexing device to cooperate with an indexing disc mounted on an output shaft which is adapted to hold an indexing head. The coupling is operated by a first cam fixedly mounted on an input shaft through a lever mechanism, and the indexing disc is driven by a second cam fixedly mounted on the same input shaft. The three gear members include a first gear member fixedly mounted on a collar slidably mounted on the output shaft, a second gear member which is fixedly mounted on a stationary housing, and third gear member fixedly mounted on a head end of the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 5217724
Abstract: An apparatus for in-line cropping and/or chamfering of a plastic tube. The apparatus includes pressure rollers for deforming a tube section and cutting devices to perform the cropping and/or chamfering operation. The control of movement of the pressure rollers and cutting devices is carried out by a combination of a face cam and a rotor disc; the face cam and rotor disc have the same diameter and may be given rotary speeds which are related to each other in any desired way. Control is carried out preferably by use of an interference box.

  • Patent number: 4671148
Abstract: A trimmer for making a circumferential cut through a hollow cylindrical object. The trimmer has a rotatably cup which holds a blade support assembly which rotates with the rotatable cup. A cam member is supported by the rotatable cup and rotates in the same direction as a rotatable cup but at a slightly different speed. In one cutting cycle, the cam member rotates one revolution different from the rotatable cup. This causes the blade to move in and out of contact with the object to be cut while the blade is rotating about the periphery of the object.

  • Patent number: 4655109
Abstract: For severing long workpieces, in particular pipes of metal material, especially at high temperatures, in a normal plane relative to the axis at an arbitrary site with the aid of a metal-cutting tool, a workpiece is firmly clamped and at a standstill, while the tool is guided in an interrupted cut around the workpiece with continuous radial advancement. The tool remains in engagement with the workpiece over only a portion of its path, which is effected by way of example in that the central circling of the cutting movement has superimposed upon it an eccentric planetary movement, so that the line of cutting is not a continuous circular line. In an apparatus for performing this method, a knife head (3) equipped with cutting knives (5) is seated on the end toward the cut of a hollow working shaft (2) rotating in a housing (1). A hollow control shaft (7) is preferably supported centrally in the hollow working hsaft (2) carrying the knife head (3).
