Resilient Means For Tool Actuation Patents (Class 82/76)
  • Patent number: 8266991
Abstract: A pipe cutter for cutting a pipe includes a cutting head assembly having a first carriage and a second carriage spaced apart to define a cutting area. The first carriage supports a cutting mechanism, and the second carriage is configured to support a pipe within the cutting area. The carriages have a locked state and an unlocked state such that when the carriages are in the unlocked state, the carriages are movable relative to each other and biased into the cutting area. The pipe cutter also includes a drive assembly configured to rotate the cutting head assembly and a locking mechanism configured for changing the carriages from the unlocked state to the locked state and for holding the carriages in the locked state. The locking mechanism includes an actuation member rotatably coupled to the first carriage.

  • Patent number: 7000512
Abstract: A blow molded container (10) having a trimmed nonround opening (12) is blow molded from a preform (36) and then positioned by a positioner (50) of a nonround trimmer (16) that includes a rotary driven arm assembly (56) having a knife holder (60). A guide (66) guides the knife holder (60) in a nonround path to perform the trimming.

  • Patent number: 5103699
Abstract: Cutter for tube or pipe, including a drive head, an elongated main body having one end carried in the head, and a cam element carried on the other end of the main body. The head, body, and element have aligned similar bores to receive a tube. The main body carries cutters which move radially inwardly of its bore to engage and cut the tube when the main body is rotated about the axis of its bore relative to the head and the cam element.

  • Patent number: 4807502
Abstract: A tube cutting apparatus designed for use in severing predetermined lengths of stock from a continuously moving workpiece includes a reciprocating carriage assembly on which is supported a driving motor directly connected to a continuously rotating cutting assembly. The workpiece is fed to the cutting assembly through an axially extending bore in the motor shaft. In one embodiment, the driving motor is fitted with end plates having integrally formed guides thereon. The cutting assembly includes a plurality of pneumatically actuated pistons each of which has either a roller or a cutting wheel secured thereto, all of which cooperate to sever the predetermined lengths of stock from the workpiece. The pistons and associated cutting wheels and rollers are designed to be actuated into engagement in response to application of fluid pressure thereto and are retracted by operation of centrifugal force resulting from continuous rotation of the cutting assembly.

  • Patent number: 4251917
Abstract: A portable drum opener tracks around a cover rim of a drum while cutting through an outer lip of the cover rim. It includes a rotatably driven drive wheel for engaging a radially inward facing surface of the cover rim for advancing the opener around the drum. A shaft that is movable toward and away from the outer lip of the cover rim carries a cutter wheel for pressing against and cutting through the outer lip in a region opposite the drive wheel. A pair of guide wheels are mounted for rolling against the outer lip of the cover on opposite sides of the drive wheel to support the opener during cutting, and a spring biased bracket urges the guide rollers against the outer lip of the cover. A lost motion coupling between the movable shaft and the guide roller bracket lets the guide rollers press independently against the drum rim during the cut but retracts the guide rollers away from the cutter rim when the cutter is retracted at the end of a cut.

  • Patent number: 4227431
Abstract: An elongated cylindrical mandrel holds a dummy electrical connector receptacle at one end, and slidably carries a concentric tubular carrier which is biased towards the dummy receptacle. A plurality of circumferentially spaced spindles are hinge mounted at their one end to the carrier for pivoting angularly with respect to the carrier axis and carry cutter wheels on their outboard ends. A slide closer concentrically surrounds the carrier, is axially displaceable, and bears cam surfaces contacting the spindles to cause the spindles to pivot inwardly towards the dummy receptacle. When the mandrel is projected, the receptacle receives in attachment the electrical connector plug bearing the tubular bayonet coupling ring to be severed. A stop limits the pivoting of the spindles and cutter wheels to permit the ring to be severed circumferentially without damage to the plug or its wiring.
